Since there was quite a nice turn out in the forum answers about Anoka and it's Halloween Capital status, I thought I'd stir up what people think about the new Head Shop that's opened up on the corner of Jackson and 1st Ave (I believe that's the right corner)!

Considering the following do you think it's a problem to have that sort of business in our City?

*Business doesn't sell any tobacco or experimental/"legal" drugs.
*Close to town hall.
*Redrum - a neat fit for both Halloween Capital and Rum River being close by?
*Will this business bring in 'questionable customers' or will it just bring in alternative business that would travel elsewhere?
*They check all ID's of anyone that enters their shop.

Ok, so obviously I'm being a little biased on what side I'm on. That's what the discussion is for. What are some legitimate reasons why this shop is a problem?

This shop rocks! Super nice employees that help you with all your questions! I'm happy to see they finally have one closer so you don't have to drive all the way to hot market in Blaine if your in a "crunch!" I love it...in fact I think they should be on every corner, not only is it a hobby to blow glass pipes but it is also ART! Beautiful job, and again...IT IS ABOUT TIME!

I think the shop is great...i like to see the art in anoka. People who dont like it need to get a life and stop judging people who are different then they are.....why cant we all just get along?! i bet if those hard ass's hit a joint once in a while they would agree!!

I live nearby and have for a long time. i do smoke so that does impact this post. I have noticed over the years that the people who walked 2nd ave before and after redrum opened havent changed. if anything they are overly polite(probably because they arent scared to show their high in that particular spot). Everyone making a purchase there usaually doesnt want to draw attention to themselfs leaving the place with a new pipe too, and I think that is another reason as to why this isnt and hasent stirred up any trouble yet. although i was skeptical about this store origionaly i am absolutly sure it will pose no problem. Untill someone jumps out a window on salvia(how is this legal and pot not?) or somethings stupid like that.

I dont mean to bash but there is nothing artful about buying legal hallucinigens. I can appritiate the difference but some people dont smoke because of things like family, work, broke ass situations, etc. Most of those people have one hell of a life, they just dont understand what exactly this stuff does for you and simply overestimate the downside. shit, compare smoking pot to drinking or nicotine use. the only reason those arnt illegal is because piss tests and cozen marketing tricks. I do agree however in saying "if you havent tried it or looked into its potential harms(witch is really nothing) you should keep your damn mouth shut when people are on the topic." I dont really blame most people tho, there are a lot of socially retarded people who smoke pot and blame their mental inadequacies on pot, just another form of crutch that makes pot look bad. pot gets you high, it doesnt make life easier, it wont make you stressless, and it wont solve your problems. But its an awesom way to pass time. lol it costs less to smoke then it does to do almost anything else. ie. drinking, bowling, sports, cigarettes, otc medication, golfing, hunting, racing, the list goes on.

I like the shop but it would be good if there was awaya to find out what is in some of the stuff they sell. Homegrown being one of them. It is heard around the street that this drug that is suppose to be like an alternative to the harmless illegal drug Mary Jane. I smoked it and I felt like I was going to die. Then I hear reports of people dying from smoking it. They should put warnings on these things for those of us that don't do hard drugs like coke and meth and only have done Marijuana. I just hate feeling like a criminal when I smoke it otherwise I still would. So basically they are using us as ginea pigs to test these new experimental herbs sprayed with who knows what chemicals. I think I'll stick with the trustful drug dealers

I heard that the "homegrown" stuff ended. For quite some time there was a drug called Salvia that was recently banned. I've never done either, but I can see how it's potentially dangerous. I understand that they are sold as "incense" and "non-consumable."
Personally, I don't have any use for the store, but I don't see any problem with it being there. I wish they sold tobacco for hookah, cuz then I could swing in from time to time.

Guys let me start by saying I have been working at redrum for over a year and the only people that really cuz problems in Anoka are the bars. I have worked many nights and there are always cops going into serums and river city so saying we cuz problems that's complete bullshit. Second HOMGROWN 50 is a herb it is 100% legal. People who r coming into our shop come in quite look around quite and leavl quitly we drawn no attention unlike the drunken people tryin to make it to there cars drive home drunk and kill people. And befor using anything we sell google it and make sure u know the facts befor u buy. Thanks guys love along that support us!!

My problem is that I work near the store and see adults bringing in kids on a regular basis. From what I have seen, the +18 rules are not enforced. If you choose to shop here, leave your kids at home.
To the owner: Why are you allowing parents to carry their kids into the shop, it makes it look really, really trashy. Organizations like NORML have enough hills to climb without adding these types images to the public memory. Enforce the 18+ rules or get out of town.

People bring kids in to bars were alcohol is served. Please if u work near us then Halloween moring u seen all the damaged done by all the drunks!! the street signs were broke puke onthe side walk and oh by the way have u looked to see how many DWIs came out of Anoka that night. Yeah let's talk about that. little kids don't have any idea what this place is they look at all the scary decorations we have. Kids do know what drinkig is. Killing over millions of people a year. Can u tell me how many DWIs have came out of my store!! NONE!!Parents are not in here talking about what it's for. M customers should be able to make that deicion on there own. Not the city or anyone else. As for I'D we card everyone under 30 years.

She is right anoka was trashed that morning after Halloween and it was not RedruMs fault! Don't gas stations sell cigs which also are killing millions people daily!! I'm guess cigs should stop being sold then. But people should be able to go to a shop and buy what they do on there own time. Don't gas stations sell PORN mags too? Weird doesn't sound to family friendly to me. So u old people that have a problem with this place need to know the new generation is coming to Anoka get the f over it!

i don't think the problem is redrum. its all the people who can't mind their own business... and adding what images to the public memory???? ha i watch people bring their kids into liquor stores and smoke shops all the time did you make a page on that? if you have nothing to do with redrum.. which i'm sure none of you do then LEAVE IT ALONE. go over to serums and take a look.. MAYBE THAT WILL BRING A BETTER IMAGE TO THE PUBLIC.... everyone loves drunk belligerent people. thats much better than a quiet shop on the corner that minds their own business and that doesn't criticize other shops around.

I'm a 32 yr old professional who has lived just over a block South of Main Street for 5 years now. I can tell you for a fact that one of this town's biggest problems is the over serving that goes on at every one of the bars on Jackson Street. I have to call the police a few times every summer because drunk and out of control idiots are yelling, screaming and/or getting in fights in front of my house at 2:30am. This happens despite the fact that my tax dollars already have to be spent to have police just camp out in front of the bars every Friday and Saturday night. Keep doing your thing Redrum, you are not a problem in the community, not at all.

The shop isn't much different than a tobacco shop. I've seen the same herbal incense sold in tobacco stores that is sold at redrum. The only difference is that redrum doesn't sell tobacco and has a more elaborate selection of pipes. Redrum shouldn't be criticized because they might support pot smoking. especially since any gas station or tobacco shop sells rolling paper and pot smoking is less harmful than cigs excluding the fact that the government has the right to rape you for smoking cannabis.
