Not a good idea at all. The paper is not worth reading since Al got fired for writing the truth.

Sure would like to see a full T.V. guide printed. Not just the few we have now! Also don't really care what grandaughters visiting and what they do! Lots more informative things than that to report going on in the county/

You're right Mimi the paper is not as good as it used to be. Part of the reason is with the changes that have been read such as replacing AS with MM totally stupid move. These long articles where Some guy named George has been is that really someting someone reads other than George himself. Give us more local news.

I agree. I hardly read the TC anymore. I just scan it for local stories that interest me and those are few and far between.

Why not start a weekly column dealing with local problems that we have here in Gilmer? They could pick issues like lack of industry in the county. They could high light the reasons and maybe come up with some solutions.

I think the local paper does a good job of being an informative place to get your local news and stories. Its twice as big as other ones in the area and tries to stay as local as it can. Of course, it's not going to be as diverse or "exciting" as a big city or national newspaper. I'm surprised they find as many things to cover as they do. Just my opinion.

I'm not looking for a big city paper. I can read the AJC or NYT online. I remember as a child, the TC was only 1 section, not divided into 4 sections as it is now. Maybe they're trying too hard. I don't really care to read the opinions of the columnists. If they'd bring back the 'personals' and 'Northcutt News' and 'Eastside News' and other more small town tidbits, that'd be nice, too.

The online news organization fetch is very limited on news coverage. They cover one or two topics of importance to the editor. The "tc" is the only real source of news information. They cover most of the relevant news in Gilmer County from week to week. Unfortunately, the "tc" is increasing it's rates. But it's the only reliable news in Gilmer County.

I love Fetchyournews.com because you do not have to wait a week for a story to be printed. However, their website design is terrible!!

I just wish the TC would stop calling Pfc Bradley Manning a Marine. On several occasions, once in the editorial and at least once in the news section inside the front page, they referred to Manning, the Wikileaks leaker, as a Marine. He was not and is not. I called the TC on two occasions to ask them to correct their error. They said they would have the editor call me. Never heard anything.

Maybe with a 50% increase in the price of the paper, they can get their facts straight...

I agree with Mimi. TC = RAG. I could care less about writers opinions. Just report news and facts.
As far as rate increase, your money better spent on toilet paper ....

amen. much better spent on toilet paper. At least the toilet paper always tells the truth when there is shit.

The Times Courier would try to tell you it is blue, not brown, and may even call it a fluffy brownie, and people would believe it cause its printed.

No, They do not deserve a increase, in fact they should be cutting back and reforming to try to survive this "paper-less" revolution.

I'm not a native of Ellijay, but I used to enjoy reading the articles by Al Summer. I didn't realize he had been fired, and shame on whoever did it! He was the best columnist in the entire paper, IMHO!
I get sick and tired of the couple that report on the vehicle they've test-driven for a week, with every option possible that your average person in Gilmer County can NO where near afford!
I do buy the paper, and will continue to, as I can find the local events (don't have cable where I live or wouldn't need to) and all the shopping ads are there Of course, I usually look at them online, too.
In reality, 75 cents isn't too bad for a small-town weekly newspaper, considering the cost of printing, delivery to stores/machines, and employees.
Maybe we all need to send letters to the editor saying how much we miss Al and we want him back!

I doubt that will happen. Small town politics at work.

I agree with you Lance. This week the TC had an article on the fire at Clear Creek Elementary yesterday morning. The TC had an article this week on the Highway 52 wash out which occurred last week. The TC had an article on the fatal wreck on 515. The online news organization had nothing on any of these stories. It's worth a few cents more for this quality reporting.

Which medium is going to report something on the extensive road repair going on now along the north bound side of South Main Street? The road repair is only 1 mile from either news organization.
