A question the community at large may be able to answer better than the sheriff 's dept or road dept.

I'm sure most of you have noticed the high levels of roadside trash accumulating on Yukon, TC Rd, Boardtown and several of the mountain loop roads since Nov/Dec of last year. It is even more noticeable after brush and tree clearing on the ROWs. I'm hoping in the spring mowings, most of it will be eaten by the machines, but still I ask:

Where has this suddenly come from? I haven't seen such in many years, and it doesn't seem to be a couple of folks dumping home trash or one slob, as it is all over the county. When I take a walk on a Saturday I pick up what's within 2 miles either side of my house and it is mostly little paper and grocery store sized bags with fast food trash, beer and coke cans. I haven't seen it return in that 4 mile run since Jan-- so I was just wondering who did it.

My gut tells me one of the private garbage collecting trucks or several must have been sloppy w/ their loads. Usually they're pretty good about only taking full sized sturdy lawn style hefty bag from a house. Is there a new wildcat company that is just doing it in open pickups or will take little badly sacked trash?

Our roadside trash problem has been going on for many years now.Alot of it must be the trash that escapes while being hauled by the trash pick up services and by private citizens. It is TERRIBLE!

It's not the pick-up services. It's probably the Obamanites. They don't give a crap about a dern thing unless they get it free. They don't want to drive to the convenience centers because they can't afford the gas. I think they just throw it out as they go pick their kids or grand kids up at school myself. I picked up trash on my road till I just got tired of it and quit. People that live up there would just drive by and not even offer to help and I had a knee brace and was on crutches, so I just said to heck with this and I just don't look at it any more. I'm sick of it. We can get butt deep in trash as far as I'm concerned.

You would think there was some sort of law that required you to throw any fast food trash in your car out of the window and on the roadside. Seriously? how hard is it to wait 10 minutes until you are home and put it where it belongs?

I've always seen litter, here and there, and I know a few bags or stuff will blow out of a person's truck bed or a kid tosses a can out the window, but this year it seems to be consistent throughout the county and REALLY BAD, everywhere but 515, which I'm sure the state oversees.

The two big garbage carriers used to require trash be bagged in heavy plastic bags before they'd take it, and they have pretty high wooden sides. I've seldom followed a normal trash truck and see anything drop out,

--- however I have recently seen some newer small trucks w/o markings carrying loose small trash & I've seen that blow out. Is this a new service or just independent, entrepreneur boys earning a buck? If so then I say good for you-- work man work-- but if the county has to clean up their trash then it is not a good deal.

Thank y'all for the feedback.

Us damn liberal Yankees are not the source of this roadside trashy behavior. Our upbringing taught us to reuse and recycle. Until just a few years ago recycling in this part of the south was unheard of and is still light years behind where it should be.
All you have to do is take a look around some of the hollers and look at how some of the natives live. Junk and trash piled up around their homes. Seriously people if you manage your trash, the cost to take it to the dump is minimal.
It's this kind of crap thinking that will keep Georgia from ever moving into this century. We live here and consider it our home but find this southern redneck attitude of many locals is pathetic.
Mama told me to pick up after myself. She smoked and never threw a cig butt on the ground.

Behave! This was a serious and sincere question I posted. It is very recent (about three months) to see a lot of misc trash on the roadside, and wondered if anyone knew why or could compare notes by what they've actually SEEN, not what you feel or who you don't like.

There is no reason to fight or argue on this question unless you just like to fight about anything. Go fight with Optimist or CRR or stay with your own Topix city/area, because only someone living here themselves in the last 3 months would know.

BTW: I recycle almost everything & avoid wasteful packaging, have for decades, and we have a commercial recycler here in this county, and I use them. Obviously others do also or they wouldn't be in business. My kitchen garbage amounts to about 1sq foot a week. Takes me a month to accumulate enough to take to the compactor after I've compacted it myself it fits in one black sack/month.

It doesn't matter where you are born, there's always the neat and the nasty.

A lot of the trash pick up the past two years has been done by the people ordered to perform community service. The county usually doesn't do pickup in December and it has been bruttally cold since before Christmas until just this week along with snow, ice, wind etc. In fact, we have had an abnormal number of extremely windy days.

So taking all of that into account, lots of extra windy days that blows trash from yards, out of the back of pick up trucks, etc., but we had two really bad floods that not only moved trash and debris from peoples burn pits etc but also caused the county to have to use resources in the Clear Creek area for weeks on emergency cleanups, but the frigid cold for the last three months has made it unbearable to have either people serving in the detention center, community service people or county employees out there walking along the roadsides picking up trash.

Now that spring has almost sprung and the days will be getting longer after tonight (set your clocks forward tonight) you will probably see an improvement in roadside litter.

Good response. Yes that seems likely. I knew it would be cleaned as spring came (especially as elections draw near).

I initially thought the same w/ the winds in Jan, and saw some scatter from a property on Yukon near Ingles leading down to the road. Weather and wildlife I initially assumed. It still seems a lot & it keeps building mostly in lines right adjacent to the road in most places, and we had pretty severe floods & winds last spring, but not the visible amounts last year or years before.
