Hi, I'm interested in possibly moving my family to Georgia. I don't know much about the northern part and was wondering how the town of Ellijay is for raising a family considering we have three small boys.

This is one of the best places to raise a family, provided you already have a job. If you are hunting work then this might not be the place to look. But if you don't mind traveling to job or you have this covered then this is a slice of heaven.

Famous last words.
Moving again is such a PITA that I wouldn't unpack the truck for a while.

I don't know what exactly you are referring to however If you are trying to inform me that Ellijay is not a good place for jobs then just say so rather than being sarcastic. Obviously I want to find somewhere my boys can grow up that is genuinely a decent area so that we won't be moving and that is why I am researching so much ESP since I don't have a ton of money/time to go an explore ever possible area. Therefore I'm trying to narrow it down to which areas seem good and then go check it out for myself.

Shannon,
Depends on what type of business he's thinking about. Still a great place to live, for most part don't have to worry about major crimes, people are still friendly and it's beautiful area. Do you have any specific questions?

She's still stuck with her brood in Jersey and already she's running her mouth telling locals what to do, how to respond. They want a nice decent area to live AFTER they turned their own area into a hellhole of crime and decadence. These rude, low class Yankees are like a social cancer spreading through the South.

I agree the vast majority of ppl from nj are like a social cancer..... It's called liberalism and one of the biggest reasons we want out! We would prefer to be near more like minded people. I'm not trying to offend anyone and just didnt know what the reason for the sarcastic comment was. Wanted to know why I would be "wanting" to move right away.

He was thinking something like landscaping or a construction business. However it really depends on the area. Thanks again for your time :)

If he doesn't mind hour commute into Atlanta and surrounding areas then he should find work alright otherwise he'll not find it here, so many outwork construction people here at present.
Good luck! Ask if you have any other questions.

That was uncalled for. Sounds like you're already coming in with an attitude which implies you're not very flexible. You will not fit in, especially if you were thinking you were coming in to take over some quaint backwoods hick town. This ain't it. You might want to try another state. No offense intended, of course, just the reality of outsiders versus natives.

Or you could try Sandy Springs. They just made an internationally announced billion dollar+ sale down there.

What is this "coming in to take over"? I'm not looking to take over anything/anywhere. We keep to ourselves and don't want to change anything anywhere. I'm not into drama or trying to be hostile towards anyone at all. I'm just trying to find a great place I can call home with our boys. It seems as though a number of people are looking for reasons to be rude or whatever but I'm a genuinely nice person so think what you would like.

This is definitely not the place to ask questions requiring sensible answers.

Great area to raise children. Public schools, easy access to the metro area's, if you do not mind a 45 to 60 min. one way drive. Negative things posted on here, do not represent the friendly atmosphere and nice people. But, I would look a little bit to the north of Ellijay. I live in between Blue Ridge and Ellijay. Blue Ridge is a great place to raise children. Check it out!

exactly, anyone who goes on this site regularly knew that this was gonna turn ugly. Might have even been set up that way on purpose

Oh no! not a good move, sister.
My family made the same mistake many years ago. Ellijay/East Ellijay is not a family community.
It is a retirement community, that is hurting for money. There are no real jobs, unless you want to work for mcdonald's or wal-mart. Just keep an eye on the arrest reports, if will show you why you don't want to be here.
Being a retirement community, most of the money that flows into gilmer county comes from the federal gov. With little work and poor, poor education most of the youth end up in the justice system. The majority of the police seem to pick on the youth, because there is no real crime in Gilmer... NOT TO SAY that there isn't problems, trust me, there are lots of problems. Good Ol' buddy system keeps the real criminals out of jail. There is sooo much meth. Its just my hunch, but I think they are being protected.:(
Corruption is a major problem here.
Just my opinion.
I'd really do my own research before moving!
Watch the arrest reports and if you can listen to the police scanner for the area.
I was born and raised in the area, was smart enough to move
Like I said, its just my opinion, but I'd think twice before making a decision.

I could agree with you there, As nonamer says, Blue Ridge is better. Although, I'd say a lot of the same problems exist...:( But, yes, Blue Ridge is a better family environment.

And probably the further north you get, the better... Move into the real mountains...

Oh, I forgot to add...
From one human to another,
if you do end up moving to North Georgia, stay out of CRR, unless you really enjoy politics or just want to double-down on your problems. CRR would be the way to go.

Don't take my word for it though, do your own research.
