Just wondering if anyone knows why the most recent policeman quit the force. Mike McClure served with East Ellijay police for a number of years. Just curious.

I see Greg Arp all the time. He doesn't live in Gilmer County so it makes sense he's not here when he's not working. And he's always been a fine upstanding man, IMHO.

I wish they'd stop changing the lines of East Ellijay. Every time I'm near Highlands it's like it starts somewhere new.

As Jack Nicholson said "The Truth You Can't Handle The Truth!!"
East Ellijay has 2 liquor store permits alloted and one was awarded to the Mayor's family !
Woods used city employees to clean up his property after flood !
Holiday Inn & Conference Hotel is denied by City Council that would have added about 40 jobs to area at min. Anything to do with Mayor's son owning Best Western?
Anyone know what the Street guy gets paid and how he got that nice new ship built right at his own front door? How much does he get paid to mow Mayor's yard on City time? Should he not maybe be weeding the City Taj Hall that is covered in weeds !
You guys really have big big problems, what does that city hall have on you anyway?

How is that a conflict of interest? Both jobs are to enforce GA laws.

Well in both Ellijay and East Ellijay they are not really cops they are revenue collectors. In the 10 years I've been here I've never seen them checking buildings at night, or cruising neighborhoods during the daytime. Just running radar and hoping to catch Jack the Ripper without his seat belt on! Does anyone know what percent of either budget is met through tickets?

There are both good and bad police officers. As far as stopping people to get revenue you are sorta wrong. I worked with them sometime on the inside,I saw many drunks and drugies taken off the road. I think if you could see the scum that may have been headed in the other lane at you or your loved ones, you would not be so quick to judge.
Yes they do check buildings, ask for those business that left there doors unlocked and got a call at some ungodly hour to that affect.
Do they stop you to tell you your tail lights or break lights aren't working. Better to know on the side of the road then after you have been rear ended. It is your resposibility to make sure your car works properly.
If you want to see it for yourself take a look from the inside, volunteer with the fire department,or the CERT team, or join the citizens patrol with the sheriff department. Or just continue to sit on the sideline and complain.
Did you take time to read you drivers handbook they give them out free at the DMV. I by no means agree with everything done by the local police but there are SOME very good police that care about their jobs.

I have never had a ticket or an arrest. The "citizens patrol and academy" are simply an election year ploy. Yes, there are many good cops; it is simply the leadership and pressure from the politicians that have forced them to spend the majority of their shifts trying to raise revenue. I also do not have a problem with traffic enforcement, but it should focus on traffic safety and problems areas and behavior: Not just trying to nail any minor violation 24/7.

Ya know I've known a lot of cops around this town, deputies, Ellijay, and East Ellijay. No not because I've been arrested, or even ticketed (pulled over once though). I have been thinking about checking out the academy thing, and since Voter is dead set against it, I'm gonna go for it.
Hell Voter lets sign up together, maybe we'll both learn something. I do see you post a lot of nonsense about police that gets corrected frequently on this board.
