If I had a billion dollars to invest I would buy stock in B.P. or Haliburton.

I happen to live 5 minutes away from the proposed building site, and I think that it is a terrible idea. Bartow county is a very rural area, which I love! I can come home from the congestion of Atlanta and see deer in my backyard! Bartow County cannot support something like this. Emerson has a dollar general, two gas stations, and Doug's Place and that's it! I think that the developers will get a reality check if they continue with their project.
lol i do agree with that

I live in Bartow too but don't think that one ski area on Red Top Mountain is going to affect the deer in my backyard. Bartow needs the jobs, the revenue and everything that goes with this. I love to ski and would be very happy if it was in my backyard. Plus, with more revenue comes more businesses which in the long run does help the economy in certain areas.

Because it's stupid thats why not. We are in the middle of a financial crisis. Classroom TEACHERS are losing their jobs because we don't have enough tax revenues coming in. Giving a huge tax break to a high risk venture such as this just doesn't make good business sense for our community. Besides that , it's just tacky. The state is closing the lodge at Red Top because nobody uses it. duhhh people !!!!

Get your facts staright. People do use the lodge. They are closing it because it is not big enough to make a profit no matter how many people use it! Amd as far as losing money because of a tax break how???? If no tax break is given they wont build and we still wont have the money! You give them the tax break and the money will be repaid, more than likely. Yes there is a risk but there is a ALWAYS a risk in business!!! We don't have the tax rev coming in but you wont to close out one of the best chances we have of bringing in more??? That doesn't make sense! Bartow County has been hit hard, harder than many realize, by the recession! We need any help we can get or you will see the poverty and crime rate increase BAD here!!

When are we going to stop thinking about ourselves and think about growing this economy again. Does anyone have any idea how many people are out of work and also lost their homes! This project will provide much needed work throughout our economy, including suppliers for the materials required for a project of this magnitude. Lets think outside the "Me" box.
What exactly am I missing here?

More development means more people coming here, more people mean more schools, more roads, more water and sewer service etc. etc. etc. If everybody just stays where they are and holds it down to two kids per household it will all work out to everyone's advantage. If you want to go skiing move to Vermont or Colorado, that would be even better.

Sonny vetoed the tax break, looks like you rednecks in Bartow will just have to keep on coon hunting and screwing your cousins when it comes to winter activities. lol

I seriously doubt that this project would generate enough revenue to actually stay in business for the long run. Does Bartow Co. really need another over sized building/ development left empty after it has gone under?

You know, I don't have an opinion on the ski project but just on principal, I'm going to side with the guy who actually has a billion dollars behind his belief that it would work as opposed to your best guess economic viability analysis.

The proposed site is in a state park--which is supposed to be there for those who enjoy the OUTDOORS. The state park system is supposed to be concerned with preserving nature and protecting the natural environment. This would destroy that. We do not want the traffic, congestion, crowds, construction, or noise. We want to be able to go here to hike, kayak, camp, boat, and enjoy peace and quiet.

Something ain't right here. The Developer is not to vocal. I would think that if this was a good idea, there would be outrage about Purdue vetoing the tax break.

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that the indoor ski complex will ever happen. The other thing that won't ever make it is the baseball complex in Emerson.Just my opinion but you can't play enough little league baseball football and soccer to net investors 10% on several hundred million dollars.Just Sayin
