If people really would like to see it stay downtown, you need to take to your councilmen, all of them and let them know what the people want. Afterall, they work for the people, if they can not do want the people of this town want, than it is time to get rid of them and get new ones.
The BBQ belongs downtown and I believe that is where it should have been all along. |

I agree with you, I did talk to Mayor Workman and he said if enough people would show up and support it downtown he would try to keep it there. I hope it stays downtown. |

The lack of knowledge of your city amazes me. Ross or the city does not have anything to do with the BBQ.

So who does?
|
|
The Community Center Board.
As far as moving it downtown, I would like to see a list of reasons why. here are some reasons why not. Heat, space, restrooms, lighting, difficulty in setting up during the day, and parking. It is a good option to move it down town when weather calls for it. I really wish you people who post here would get your facts straight before you make comments about things you know nothing about. Prime example was the thread about Darren |
|
That's right about the CC Board but to whom are they responsible? |
|
|
it is an independent board. It is not under the city.
|
|
So they do their own thing with no advisory panel? Ever get input from the rest of the people? |
|
|
I guess you would say they are the advisory panel. I am not sure who is on it now, but am sure they will listen for any suggestions.
BTW, I am still waiting for a list of reasons why it should be moved down town. |

give me a break, the main reason the BBQ should be moved downtown is THE CITIZENS OF DAWSON SPRINGS WANT IT DOWNTOWN. There is also no place to park at the park, heat, space. I will give you the restrooms, however that is just a couple of phone calls away. And as far as the setting up, what in the H&%l are the setting up? The PTA and various school activities, There are no rides, bingo, etc. So that arguement is out the window. Next???
As far as the CC board, they all come from one family (1st cousins, 2nd cousins, cousins-in-law, etc, etc). And yes each and everyone are accountable to the city of Dawson, not just Ross. Ross is the mayor and the mayor appoints the members of the board and the council approves or disapproves his appointments, in this case they are all from the previous administration. |
|
No the council does not appoint the board. Where do you get your info. I guess you think the deed to the center belongs to the city. wrong.

Proud, the more I think about your post, it call for some more info. The setting up part. The CCB sets up all the booths beginning early and tears it down at the end of the night. The groups that run them just show up. Everything is set up and prizes are there. the restrooms yes you can rent some chemical tolets, but that eats into the proceeds. The bingo was done by the Legion and because of new regs they choose not to do it.
I don't know how to make you understand that the city has nothing with the CC and there are no city funds used in its operation. |

Give me a break, I very well could be wrong about the appointment of the CCB appointments, however the fact of the matter is that the BBQ is an annual event held for and by the citizens of Dawson Springs. No the board does not set up the booths or for that matter much of anything else. The citizen volunteer our time for this community event and if it was not for the volunteer the so-called Community Center Board couldn't even get started in the morning. The fact still remains that the Citizens of Dawson Springs want the BBQ held downtown.

There are some that do and some that don't. There is volunteer help, but there is a member of the CCB who heads up the stret fair and they get it all together. Just wondering how much time did you put in volunteering at the BBQ this year. I can tell you the head of the street fair was there from around 6 am to after 11 pm. |

That's true ... without community participation you don't have a BBQ. It's a very special thing and those who volunteer take great pride in it. I don't know that the volunteers do what they do for the CC as much as for the city of Dawson Springs as a whole. So then the thing is all the responsbility of the CC and the council and the mayor or others have no blame for its success or failure?

The credit for success goes to all the citizens of DS. If it fails I am sure will end up the fault of the CC. The point is the CC is the ones who put on the BBQ with help from the citizens, rotary Club and the city, but the community center is not under city government. something that does need to be said is that the city and it's employees hah always supported the BBQ. City employees have always helped moving the street fair stuff to the location and cleaned up afterwards. For that they need a giant pat on the back. |

Yes, they do. |

Everyone that wants it back downtown,WITH RIDES,dancing, fun, lets do something!!I would love to see it back downtown and I would love to see rides and all the fun it use to be..if not it will die just like this town is about to if someone don't do something. Thanks :)

remember you make a very good point about the rides. We were lucky for many years to have a group that would come in for only one night, but those days are gone. That being one reason it was moved to the park so that the rides could be multible nights. The problem there is that most all carnivals have food venders that cut into the profits.
