No one can get a $2000 check from DHHR! Currently, individuals who receive TANF (aka Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) can receive $2000 in appliances or furniture if they can show need. Also, if you were enrolled thru TANF in September your check was doubled for one month and they will also receive a check of 80% their normal payment this month. Also, it is my understanding that anyone who is already receiving TANF and/or got a clothing voucher for their children will receive an additional $250 per child check for their child. Finally, anyone who is owed over $1000 of child support will be given $1000. This is due to the fact that WV had nearly $55,000,000 of stimulus money that had to be spent or lose it and the quickest way to get rid of it was to give it away. Governor Manchin held on to this money and didn't spend it and then wanted it spent as quickly as possible and it was a rather shrewd political move because he is running for Senate and what better way to show people how much you care than to give them all these benefits. I'm actually impressed with the move in a purely political sense.

it is true about the stimulus voucher depending on where you are located is the difference in time that they are sent out...you get a stimulus of $250 for either each child that recieved a clothing voucher OR 80% of your monthly TANF payment if you recieve one..

I know exactly what you mean,I think the working person should have options on how they pay taxes, I mean why pay into something you dont qualify for,I think we should have the option instead of it going to welfare that we will never receive it could go in our retirement fund or something.
I dont mean to put people down but more than half of the people around here are able to work and just wont and it pisses me off when I go to the store and some deadbeat dopehead is in front of me buying steaks with his food stamp card that I work for while I pay cash for hamburger meat and can barely afford it but I still dont qualify for benefits that I pay into.

I dont think nonsense was bashing anyone they were just stating the facts, if you honestly need a little help theres no problem in that, but when you see these DEADBEATS who wont hit a lick at anything getting all these benefits because they are low income it's a smack in the face to the working person who gets out and works their 40+ hours a week just to be told they dont qualify for any assistance at all.
You can say I'm bashing people or looking down on people if you want to because I do look down on people who wont go out and provide for their family, they wont work and they depend on the government and the working persons money to keep them up and it's just not right. But dont worry I will keep working so the welfare can use my tax money to keep the dead beats up!

You should watch what you wish for because one day you might have a stroke, heart attach, become paralyzed or disabled in some other way,and be in need of that same help.
Besides, many plus their parents have payed for many years before this so it is not your tax money they're getting except maybe one dollar once in a great while. Most likely your taxes go to support the war and the country of Iraq.
I'd much rather be helping someone in need here than be supporting a war or another country.
You can't tell us you don't get tax returns, everything from welfare goes right back to government.

You can argue your point any way you want to, but you will never change my mind on how I feel about this issue. Further more when it comes my time to need assistance, I wont get it because it will all be gone more than likely because people who could work and wont work are riding the system and eventually the system will go broke, then what since you have all the anwsers. As far as the comment of being in need of the same help, well I know people who have worked their whole life and had heart attacks, and went to get help and the only thing they got that they didnt have to fight for months for was a few food stamps, so dont even feed me that crap! By the way I do get tax returns and I work my ass off all year long to receive it. Maybe I could lay on welfare and get a housefull of new appliances and double clothing vouchers, and food stamps and all. It just disgusts me if your able to work, then work theres no excuse for laziness,if I have to get out here to work and support my family and pay CASH for clothes, food, appliances, etc. then I dont see why other people cant do the same I guess it's just a difference in people, some people have no backbone and are lazy then you have the working man....
just wondering

Why not use this money to give the working people a raise instead of handing out to people, some of which, have never worked a day in their life? It really doesn't make sense!

I wish I knew why. If you find out let us all know. I'm not on welfare but it must be nice for someone to give you that kind of help. I also know that last week, and the week before they where sending out $250 checks as welfare checks to people who I guess was on welfare, that was plus their regular welfare checks. Is this some new, lets spend all the money we can, idea of our president? Cause I got news for him, there are us elderly and poor people out here trying to make it in this high price world they have us living in now.

If this is happening I don't think that is the reason. But I also don't think the government cares to much either what all is done with the money. Just as long as it looks good in the eyes of the press for them.

What did I say, as long as it looks good to them in the eyes of the press. Why didn't he have the elderly who has trouble picking between their meds. or food come up to DHHR and apply for money for food or meds. That would have been a big help to people and showed he so called cared. Not just the elderly, but the children in forster care or childrens homes getting a bit extra. Why not spend more money on going after the dead beat dads, makeing them pay for once. When I had young children I use to ask their father for help and even tell him what the welfare would do to him. He didn't care, he told me to do what I had to, cause he knew they wouldn't do anything. Go after these dead beat dads hard, he could have used some of the money for that. That would have made him look good in the eyes of the people. He could have looked hard and serious and not soft on these criminal dads.
