We are new to West Sacramento. We moved from a quite country town into a noisy city. However, I've been noticing a particularly loud, low roaring noise sounding like a jet engine idling on the Tarmac, and I hear it almost every night.

I have searched and searched for industry that has a night shift and possibly runs some sort of equipment? I've thought maybe there is an airport close by, but then why would a plane just be idling? The port is nearby, thought maybe something would be running there. Maybe the rice industry has big conveyor belts running?

Does anyone have any idea what possibly could be making this loud roaring noise. If you've been here a long time, you probably don't even notice it, but being I'm new to the area, and have lived for 27 years in the country, I am very aware of city noise, and THIS one is the most irritating noise I've ever heard. I hear it above any other noise in the house, TV, heater, refrigerator, it's just ALWAYS roaring.

Thanks for any information.

If you live in the south area of west sac the roaring sound is probably rice dryers located on Channel Drive, they are run seasonally. The company has several dryers/work stations thought WS, it's Farmers Rice.

I hear same loud "engine" roaring sound late at night and in early morning (1:00 am, etc.). Sounds like jet engine but the sound does not move so it's not a plane.
It's very annoying, interferes with sleep. It's so loud it noise pollution. What are laws of decibels of sound past certain hours?
Investigating where the sound is coming from so they can be contacted.

I hear the same sound in this part of Sacramento.
Often it goes on continual for half hour or more.
Late at night, early morning hours, it interferes with peace and quiet at night.
No matter if it's a factory, a "rice" plant or not, it's not okay to have that level of loud sounds during certain hours. That what guidelines for decibels, noise ordinances rules are for.
Calls to make so will find out where it's coming from, the source contacted and solution found.

This sound has also woken me up in the middle of the night. It is definitely coming from McClellan. I know someone who works nights there and said active military is present during night shifts. It is unmistakable and always between the hours of 1 and 3 am.. Wondering what possibly could be going on there myself.
I live in west Sacramento near target and have been hearing a loud jet engine sometimes roaring sound and it's very disturbing. I contacted sac airport and that doesn't seem to be the problem. 1am-6am it's continuous EVERY NIGHT for the past month or 2. Never had this problem living in natomas or when I first moved here. Should be a crime and I have anxiety

live near sleep train area. Approx 1 year ago there were at least 5 explosions 4 of which felt like a atomic bomb -- walls shimmed, glass on apt. Bld rippled,, I know difference between earthquakes, sonic booms and aircraft. This came from the ground. NO mention in news after this happened. Forward one year NOW there is a very high pitched frequency in this apt.driving me nuts but has subsided some in the past 2 wks, can't say anything to people around here they all must be deaf. Someone is preparing for something.

I have lived in North highlands off of Hillsdale and roseville Rd near madison for over 5 years. I have off and on heard this loud roaring sound like a plane is hovering above....but there is never anything in sight. It's usually early morning say around 1pm. Last night though was different...it got so loud that when I ran out side, everyone was outside. We all had the same look on our face. Part confusion, irritation, and a touch of fear. It was 825pm and the roaring continued loud and steady. It was the same roaring I've heard in the past but this time the sound was fierce and growing momentum. I do not live near any factories. Yes I am by McClellan closed base but this was not a plane... the sound was steady and seemed to be coming from above us. There is a very small very plain unmarked government facility near by on roseville rd. It does not seem to really be anything just a field and a small structure...I always see cars going through the gates but I never see the cars parked anywhere or people for that matter. I'm not a government conspiracy nut or anything, but I can't help but feel that sound was coming from them....maybe an underground location? There seems to be man made little hills in their little facility over there. Any thoughts?
