On July 6 the Daily Democrat printed a letter from Mr. Larry Shapiro of Woodland. The Democrat proudly titled Mr. Shapiro’s letter “Daily Democrat is using more liberal columnists.” Mr. Shapiro began by pointing out “The columns on The Daily Democrat editorial page have gone over recent years from near 50-50 conservative/liberal to, putting it diplomatically, not much balance.” Mr. Shapiro went on to say “Even though the country did not do well in 2009 and 2010 with a super Democrat majority in Congress and a Democrat President, your liberal columnists never swerve from supporting failures of the past and trying to find some way to describe Obama as successful.” Mr. Shapiro added “Dare I say this is not the type of journalism any newspaper should be publishing?

My thought was do the people of Yolo County know how politically biased the Daily Democrat really is?

Mr. Shapiro ended his letter with “Littwin and your other pro-Democrat, truth-be-damned columnists (can I use that word?) will never provide Daily Democrat readers an accurate picture. But the Daily Democrat could provide a wider scope of opinions.”

As a long time reader of the Daily Democrat I believe that the newspaper has no interest in providing its readers with any opinion other then Democrats good, Republicans bad and it’s not just in the opinion pages. Most of the articles selected for print in the Democrat are one-sided. The reader is seldom provided the whole story and allowed to reach a conclusion based on the facts.

Last year I wrote to the Daily Democrat after they turned to Donna Brazile for an analysis of the GOP. I suggested that they print a Rush Limbaugh piece on the Democrat Party. Jake Dorsey the associate editor at the time replied and I’d like to share his response with you.

“We run Mrs. Brazile's thoughts in part because we pay for a content service that provides her column to us. I'm not sure who is the Republican columnist counterbalancing her, but I don't think it's Rush Limbaugh.”

“I know we run Walt Lucas, a local Esparto resident who tends to be quite right-leaning. You can visit his Web site at http://roughstock.blogspot.com/ .”

“However, for the record, we don't subscribe to Fox News' motto. We strive to be ‘accurate and complete’ in our news coverage; the opinion pages are a different animal.”

“I was taught to be accurate and complete, not attempt to find what's "fair" between sides of a story, or figure out where the "balance" of a story is. Fox News likes to think its motto means something. It doesn't.‘Be accurate with the facts of a story and complete in relaying its sides to the reader.’ That's what I was taught in journalism school, and happily for everyone, that is also unbiased reporting in a nutshell.”

Unbiased reporting?

Mr. Shapiro rightfully pointed out in his letter that the Daily Democrat is not accurate in its political coverage and fails to provide readers with the complete story.

Rush Limbaugh openly admits that he’s conservative talk radio. Jim Smith needs to admit that his newspaper is a democrat daily.

Any objective reader of the "Daily Democrat" would come to the conclusion that said paper is right of center.

And you're hard -right wing opinion is not objective.

It's better to remain silent and thought a fool then to speak up and remove all doubt.

It's my opinion that the news media should stop trying to influence the public by putting a spin on today's politics. Keep political opinions out of the story. Just report the facts and let the American people decide which path to follow.

We all know which party is driving the bus so stop blaming the passenger when it reaches it's destination.

If you want to call this a hard right wing opinion go ahead. I'm not suprised. An honest and unbiased media doesn't fit your agenda.

You don't live in Woodland. You don't subscribe to the Daily Democrat. You're not a DD reader. You're just another narrow minded liberal. Go back to your pathetic argument with Here You Are and leave the important discussions to the more rational minds.

This mouthpiece used to spread manure all over the DD forum until they switched to Facebook and he/she couldn't hide their identity.

If you're afraid to sign your name to your posts put a sock in it.

So in your biased opinion any paper that tells both sides of a story/issue is left leaning whereas a paper like say the “wall street journal" that only gives the right -wing view of any issue is mainstream?

“It's better to remain silent and thought a fool then to speak up and remove all doubt.”

Me thinks you should heed your own advice.

Why don’t you admit that you were so (insert any word that means unhappy) that caused you to write that rant you did where you said that you were going to buy your RV out of state because you did not want one penny to go to California because you are afraid that California is going to take away your retirement………………LOL

And then you later admitted to doing what you said you were going to do knowing that you cheated California out of a lot of taxes even though the money you spent out of the state was made on the backs of tax payers……………..LOL

Nice thing about the internet is that whackos like you can't change what other people have previously written. All you can do is show how stupid you are and your inability to comprehend what you read.

Still waiting for you to post a link that shows that I've wrtitten that "I hate California".

Can't do it can ya traitor?

Actually yes, fox always presents their right -wing biased opinion as news and the rest of the media tries to expose said right -wing bias on their "opinion/editorial" programs.

No, I don't hear voices, do you see black heliocopiers?

Would it not be easier for you to just answer the question??

You demand other do??

Or do you just hide behind the fact that you are a liberal hypocrite???

Why won’t you answer the question??
What are you afraid of??

Was it floored in California??
Was it prepped in California?
Was it sold in California?
Was it registered in California?
Did a dealer in California make money and pay income tax on it?
Did someone wash it each week that it sat on a lot in California and have a job and pay taxes?
Was it ever run in a TV, Newspaper or radio ad in California and did the advertiser pay taxes on any of that money?

Why are you so afraid to answer the questions that you said you would after I answered yours????
