Let's hope that CASA did a better job backgrounding this new leader than they did on the last thief they hired. It seems to me that the people in control at CASA should be ashamed of their prior negligent hiring practices, management and oversight. Hopefully, they realize that now.

If they could get along without a Director "for months", why did they need one in the first place? Why do these organizations need to have a supervisor for every two people?

Engage brain before opening mouth. Do you have any idea the number or volunteers, kids, foster parents, birth parents are involved in this program? Obviously not.

Not Sure About That: I have to say I have to question this need as well, of course, I am speaking from a distance, but when we hired our new head librarian after this massive push for taxes I thought, if the library was functioning without one, could they not absorb that position?

In these times, it appears the head honchos always have a bloated salary, and it is the little guy who get's hurt.

I used to think the same thing...Until it was pointed out that CASA actually did complete a background check on the ex-director...the reason that the arrest and conviction did not show up was due to the timing of the incidents and the background...The Sac Bee did a far better job reporting on this story than the DD. The real issue with the hiring of the ex-director is the fact that her former employers, whom she stole from as well, never told CASA about it due to fear of legal actions, etc.

I remember that, you were upset of the lack of accountability and once you saw a different version of the story you did agree it was possible that they made a decision based on lack of information avail.

I was told that this will be their 14th or 15th director in 16 years. I think the problem stems from the board of directors. The new director is a friend of the members. This group is known for not being very bright. "Not Sure About That" they only supervise the volunteers. The volunteers interact with the others involved in the system. I would not hold my breath on this organization getting better with the board members that are involved.

What is obvious is you react with sarcasm while citing no facts for me to read. Much like the DD, you are leaving me on my own to gather what limited information is out there. The web site is out of date, so tell me what I don't know, please? Hope you don't treat your kids this way. My parents were abusive like this too.

Well when I walk into the place and ask these questions I hope you are not the person sitting there that the public depends on for information.

In rereading my post, you are absolutely correct. My apologies to you. That was no way for me to answer.

My point was meant to be that I felt the director's job was being underestimated and was more complex than might be popularly believed and just saying that they could go on as they have was not totally realistic. My wife is a volunteer and let's just say things are still happening but she sees some needs for organizational leadership on a steady basis.

Again, my apologies to you.

The former director is in court today (1-21-11) for her sentencing. My wife, along with other volunteers, will be at the sentencing. Hopefully she doesn't get a slap on the wrist.

The plea bargain for probation was set aside and now she has to go to trial for the charges. I guess her finger wagging in court was waisted. There may also be a question regarding the bookkeeper knowing about the incident and not saying anything.

More news at 11 but you heard it here first.

I just got the call. The DA did a really bad job on this one. They will have the choice to go to trial or the PD can negoicate with the DA to take a sentencing on original charges. Any way there is prision time now. What really bothers a lot of us is the fact that CASA is not moving on. The DA brought up more allegations today?? What a waste of taxpayer dollars to go to trial not to mention the waste that has occured for all involved. MCIY

Any new volunteers? Maybe the new director can work some magic. The volunteers I speak to say the board of directors continue to spend an excessive amount of time on trying to find more more more. The facts have been presented the woman is guilty we hope they can concentrate on getting the volunteers for the kids. Don't get me wrong I believe that there should be prison time but the plea was for 5yrs probation and 1yr jail-with restitution. Now we are looking at probation, restitution, 16mos-2 or 3yrs prison half off for good behavior. Maybe we are missing something but the volunteers received this info from the board of directors and are concerned that it will be months before there are any new volunteers.

I understand what you are saying because I am not an outsider. I was a CASA in Washington state and two years ago applied to go through the training in Woodland but it was canceled. My situation now would not afford me the opportunity. I speak to some of the current volunteers and they are concerned about this being prolonged and that for the good of the organization they need to get some new volunteers. They also are concerned about the board of directors and that there needs to be some new people stepping up not just the current members same friends to serve on the board.
