Sometimes people are totally inncoent. They may have been arrested my overzealous police, or a corrupt system. Until someone is proven guilty in Court, they are in detainment. Even if they may be found guilty is no reason to torture people. I spent some time there myself, heard and saw abuses not able to be spoken of here. Intentional medical torture has no place in this or any other country. The drug use inside that facility is rampant, the crimes commited by the private medical company hideous. There is a special place in HELL for these pseudo-people on the wrong side of the steel walls.

Having your freedom taken away is the punishment of breaking the law. Everyone no matter what deserves 3 meals a day (I don't care if its pinto beans and cornbread at every meal every day!) and medication for life threatening problems. Forcing prisoners to go without food and necessary medication should be considered torture.

Who makes the Law? We don't have any laws. PATRIOT Act took all the laws we had and shoved them down the toilet. The pig on the street makes the law, the courts support their decisions. People die in ICJ all the time from abuse.

My husband was in there in Oct. for child support arrears only. All are now over 18. He had to put up a 4500. cash bond,in which I did,but it took me 5 days to get it together. My husband's Dr. Has him out of work for the last 6 months.Well after I posted the bond he went to see his case worker and she said his case was now closed. December we find out another warrent for guess what? Arrearage in past child support on a case that was suppose to be closed. He is now in jail case worker will not answer none of my calls to get this settled. Now the warrent stated he owed another 2000.00.They will not give him his medicine that he has been on for 4 years and if he doesn't have it he has severe withdrawals.Iredell County really needs to be cleaned up.

I am a 54 year old diabetic. The jail staff and especially the medical department were abusive and comited torture in my opinion. Being held in a 4x6 cell for over a week, bright lights all the time, denyed insulin, roughed up and constantly hearing screams of other people, sleep sdeprivation, inedible food, disgusting water, torture. I have heard too many stories like this now and think a Federal Investigation is in extreme need there.
My family are diabetics and that shit is scary when you dont take your insulin my uncle almost died from it. My brother is in that jail right now. In my opinion that jail should be burnt down with all the scum gaurds in it

Hey, don't do the crime and you won't do the time period. Jail is not supposed to be a hotel it's jail.If one is in jail it's because they have enough evidence to charge you dah.

Even if you are guilty of a crime, If youre on medication for health reasons then no one should be able to stop you from taking your meds!!! No one. I agree, Jail is for punishment of a crime, however when youre on meds then you should ba able to continue your meds even in jail. I did 20 days and they gave me grief about giving me my asthma meds and whatever. If anything would have happened to me there would have been an investigation. I made sure my family was aware of everything about my meds and how they didnt follow my doctors orders. However when I was shipped to the Annex the more bigger concern was all the black mold growing on the walls in the bathroom. and all they had to do was turn on the vent fan to let the moisture out..... so to all you ppl that say jail is doing its job... no, punishment is one thing, however not giving meds to keep someone alive or to help them breath is not punishment... its inhumaine. Unless im on death row and going to be put to death any ways then I dont think they should be allowed to mess with doctors orders and I took my own meds and breathing machine. they told me no!!! only if i have a very bad asthma attack, well do some homework, if you wait till the last minute when asthma is really bad it can damage your lungs even more and why should anyone be able to damage my lungs just because they have the power to????

Jails also hold people accused but not proven guilty of a crime. Many, many people are falsly arrested especially when the retiring detective is banging the DA and there is a personal grudge involved.

There us no room in America for torture of citizens, EVER.

ICJ MUST BE SHHT DOWN.

I've been reading this thread all the way through to the end, and I have a few points I'd like to bring up:

1) In America, we have the "innocent until proven guilty" bit working in our defense. This isn't the Soviet gulag, people.

2) There's absolutely something to be said for "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime", and any other overly-cliched snippet you'd like to use to state that if you break the law, you'll likely end up in jail. Granted and appropriate.

That said, however, especially in a county jail we should be cognizant of the fact that we are all innocent until proven guilty.

Even after proven guilty, it's incumbent upon the courts to determine proper punishment... Not some local-yokel wingnuts with an attached God complex and an acquiescent, if incompetent, medical department.

3) ICJ will keep doing this until forced to stop by the courts. The good news is that this time will come soon.

Although these may have commited a crime an went to jail they are still human!! I am not sayn put them in a hotel, but give them what they need...meds, food an living conditions that r considered liveable! Being in this type of living conditions, can, an will cause people to become violent! Mentall health is at risk with these inmates!! An remember most of them will get out an after being there an what it has caused them to learn to be like then that is what we have to deal with! An it can cause higher crime rates after these people r treated like animals, that how they more than likely r going to treat the people they come in contact with after being released!! So talk all ur crap it isnt an will never fix the problem! An someday it could be a loved one of urs that ends up there (guilty or not) a they to will have to live daily under these conditions!

Also would like to add...its lice, scabbies, ect that people get being in ICJail...an they do not give them the proper treatment. Again they r released into the piblic with these diseases, an pass it on to the public!! An if the inmate doesnt have any money in their acct, then they dont get any medical treatment in ICjail. Not every inmate have anyone to put money into their acct's so they can get medical treatment. So I'd rather spend my tax dollar to make sure they get the med treatment need, so the public doesnt have contract anything they have when released! An recently one man arrested gave 10 other inmates scabbies, an even when someone puts money in one inmates acct, what about the ones that isnt getting treatment so therefore no one can get rid of it! So theyre put in insolation no bigger than a closet, even if they did have the money to get the improper treatment, so they r being punished for getting scabbies bc the ICJ isnt taking the proper measures to solve the problem! As far as I no, I havent heard of a judge giving out sentences an also adding insolation for getting some kind of disease while doing ur time! An even being guilty of a crime...why does that mean that anyone should be treated like anything less than a human being? The reason for jail or prison is to keep them confined, not treated like an animal!!
