Show cause order Mountain State University

NEW FLASH: Mountain State University is under a show cause order as to why the school should not close. The President, Charles Polk, was listed as among the 10 highest paid Presidents of a private school at
$1.8 million. He was forced to resign January 20, 2012, because of his lack of leadership over the past four years while the school struggled unsuccessfully to maintain nursing accreditation. He spent money on a home in Lake Norman and a private place while the North Central Accreditors, Higher Learning Commission, and CCNE (Nursing) was all in jeopardy. Polk was forced out for malfeasance and his best friend, Bill White, is running the faux campus in Mooresville. Don't take a change on this school. Go to the Register Hearald in Beckley, WVA and the Charleston Gazette to read about this scandal. Don't let these people pick your pocket or use your financial aid for themselves.

He used financial aid money to pay his family and to buy two private planes. POLK is a crook. MSU is already involved with Penn Foster and Graduate School USA, both organizations run by Polk's ex-board member friend, Jerry ICE. These people are not interested in YOU as a successful student but instead just want your money. Their online programs are at a junior high level and the books, tests, and other materials often do not match. MSU has a graduation rate of 5% for students attending four-five years. The majority of students transfer out within the first two years although it is not unusual for them not to be able to transfer many credits because of the reputation as a diploma mill in West Virginia. Polk had to resign 21 years from Daytona Community College in Florida because of shady dealings with a local developer.
BE WARNED, this school will pillage your community and never look back. Don't let your local officials make deals with Mountain State University without a thorough investigation of their currect accreditation status at all levels and until they are audited by an outside firm. Nursing students in Beckley have filed suit against the school

Read the Charleston Gazette for January 19, 2012. The title is Polk fired as Mountain State University president. His good friend and comrade in crime is Bill White who currently the leader at the faux Mooresville campus. Ask Mayor Bill Thunberg if he did any research on MSU and Polk before he signed a Memorandum of Understanding or is he, like the mayor in Beckley, all too happy to sacrifice his own constituency for a ride to Disneyworld in Florida.
This university is at the point of ruin thanks to Polk and White. And, if Polk comes knocking at your door, ask him what kind of leader gets fired twice in his career in 25 years in order for accreditors to reconsider their show cause orders and for a school to move forward. He was fired at Daytona Community College 22 years ago and he fired again. And he and White think the same way, just look who thought they could write a book together on leadership! Apex Thinking is now known as Apex Shrinking in West Virginia.

Beware of MSU. To add to the above, the general education courses are scrutinized for their lack of rigor.
In traditional educational settings the faculty in their respective fields of study determine these requirements. This is not the case at MSU. The executives at MSU determine these decisions. Not the faculty. Hence why the curriculum is so poor. This practice is largely seen in the for-profit schools. MSU operates as a for-profit and hides under the tax shelter of non-profit.
There is much turmoil at MSU. The nursing program is not the only program having serious issues. Several programs have already been closed due to accreditation problems. Let this serve as a red flag the school is unstable. Visit Beckley Topix to learn more of what it going on.

Mountain State University is a terrible school with many problems. Warn everyone!
Check the Beckley WV topics for many thread on MSU.
Tell everyone..........this is important.

Don't let your local officials sell out your community for quick profits but long-time problems. Stay away from Mountain State University. Bill White is as corrupt as Charles Polk and BOTH are residing in your community! There are too many good schools and YOU DON'T need to get involved with MSU and its problems.

Please read articles in the Charleston Gazette in Charleston, WVA, before you spend any money on Mountain State University. There is a campus in your town. The fired Charles Polk is a retiree in your area and his good friend, Bill White, is running the Lake Norman area campus.

Want to read the Higher Learning Commission show-cause order? Go to their website ncahlc.org and put in Mountain State University. Effective 6/23/11 Where were Polk and White when this was happening? Promoting their MSU book on leadership!
Latest Possible Scandal: Two of Polk's buddies, Ms. May and Mr. Bragg are being awarded their `Doctor of Leadership' degrees. Program has been in place less than two years, school can't find enough Ph.D.s to teach nursing courses, but these folks are graduating? This is indicative of MSU. Who cares about the students when it is possible to award degrees to yourselves and family members? The Doctor of Leadership degree is an affront to all the good people who have found themselves in unaccredited programs. Oh, Ms. May was a secretary for Polk and promoted to Vice President of Accreditation! Lots of shame to go around for them all. DON'T GET INVOLVED.
Still not convinced? Go to New York Times nytimes.com and look for the December 2011 article on the highest paid college presidents in the U.S. Check out what they have to say about Charles Polk at MSU. Why would you want to contribute to a school with no priorities for students?

Sports programs being gutted. Mayor Pugh in Beckley under suspicion for his association with Polk and their service together on MSU Foundation Board. Kelli Mays fired after meeting with accreditors in Chicago.
Distance learning programs and School of Leadership are raising questions about integrity and quality of MSU, the Board of Trustees, Senior administrators, former lawyers for MSU, and family members of Polk and Silosky.
How come Polk (Fired), White (runs Mooresville campus) and Silosky (Retiring) are able to live so comfortably while so many former students struggle? Does it bother you guys that you have students who will be paying for financial aid over the next 20 years so YOU can live well? With a 5% graduation rate, there are a lot of them.

Looks like MSU has fired every one but the few remaining Polk loyalists, R. Artis, R. Wiley, B. White. Bill White is the crook living in Mooresville along with the now disgraced Charles Polk. Jim Silosky has a home in Mooresville, too. He'll tell you he retired but that is only because he KNEW he was going to be fired.
Don't let these people blend among you as they are the equivalent of `con artists' trying to sell you inferior merchandise (programs that can't get accredited). Polk and White spent the 2010-2011 years promoting their crumby book while using bottomless expense accounts. Like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned!

Article from April 2012 referring to MSU as school that enrolled `any one with a pulse' and says that people should be prosecuted for their scamming of the Beckley community and the financial aid packages from the federal government. Don't forget: MSU has a `branch' campus in Mooresville. They are under a show cause order AND the people who ran the scam, Charles Polk, James Silosky, and Bill White are all retired or still working for MSU in your community. BEWARE!
So many people are going bankrupt thanks to the Ponzi scheme these men were running on Beckley. Students with worthless degrees, money owed on financial aid by people who have no chance of a job, faculty maliciously fired, former employees going bankrupt. So much pain to the Beckley community and these men think they left it all behind. Don't get involved with them. Even the Mayor of Beckley is now under investigation over MSU! Ask YOUR mayor how well he checked out Polk before making deals with him.

Don't forget to look at the Charleston Gazette for the latest news:
6/27/12 Article by Amy Julia Harris, "MSU Bonds could down grade to junk status." Turns out POLK, WHITE, SILOSKY and pals put the school in debt to the City of Beckley and the Raleigh County Building Commission for $6.5 MILLION in bonds to build a 200-bed dormitory on campus with a private builder. Don't forget the $11 million Polk spent on the Martinsburg Mall (rumored to have been a place to put his son Anthony in charge).
Time for the community of Mooresville to determine if any of this kind of `problem' can develop in the MSU campus you have in Lake Norman area. These men all live here with you now. Did they make any kind of deals that will come out later and hurt local officials? The mayor of Beckley is in real trouble over his association with Polk and White and Silosky.
Over 100 people have lost their jobs, students are in debt for useless degrees of no real value (think of Charles K. Polk School of Leadership `Doctoral' Degrees! This is like having a dog grooming degree from...oh yeah, that's one of the certificates you can get from Jerry Ice's school, Chairman of the Board of MSU).
Charles Polk made a statement in an article in the Mooresville newspaper that he considered your community to be his real home (also see Charleston Gazette, Jan 5, 2012, "MSU President is frequent flier at School's expense" by Amy Julia Harris for that quote). Good luck with that, he used to refer to his employees as his `family.'

Time to review this website:
MSU Accreditation has been withdrawn. MSU has until July 23 to appeal but Charles Polk (forced out) and Bill White (runs MSU in Mooresville) have put the school in such dire straits that no one expects the school to survive. If you are a current student at MSU, re-think your plans for the future.
These men should be criminally prosecuted for the damage they have done to the university. That Bill White is still employed is a demonstration of the ability of the school to handle change. Time to close the `campuses' in NC, PA, and FL.

Lawsuit accuses Polk, MSU of racketeering
By Amy Julia Harris
CHARLESTON, W.Va.-- A new lawsuit accuses Mountain State University and former MSU President Charles Polk of breaking federal law by engaging in a widespread criminal enterprise of racketeering activity to defraud students and pad the school's bank account.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in Jefferson County Circuit Court on behalf of 14 former MSU nursing students, alleges that Polk and the university engaged in a criminal racketeering scheme over the past decade to exploit students through mail and wire fraud.
"These acts were not isolated events, but rather were part of an overall conspiracy and pattern of racketeering activity," the lawsuit states. The lawsuit also says Polk and MSU officials violated the West Virginia Consumer Credit Protection Act and committed fraud and breach of contract.

wow. Polk will ruin your community if you give him a chance.

First, Charles Polk was forced to resign 21 years ago from Daytona Community College in Florida over ethical violations. For the school to be re-accredited, Polk had to go. Unfortunately, he used West Virginia for his next `ethically and morally challenged' position as President of Mountain State University. History repeats itself. Again, Polk has had to leave a university due to his own management failings.
Go to the Charleston Gazette in West Virginia and search under "Mountain State University." Following articles should be read:
"Audit finds aid woes at MSU" July 12, 2012 Financial Aid issues started in 2005. Local MSU administrator in Morrisville, Dallas Bragg, was the financial aid manager during part of the last seven years of this audit. Don't let him tell your local newspaper lies about his participation.
"Feds keeping close eye on MSU financial aid" July 21, 2012 The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission shows that MSU administrators had never paid dozens of students aid they were due, held onto monies beyond legal disbursement dates (to collect interest), and provided faulty paperwork to get students money they academically ineligible to receive.
"At MSU,`It was all about the revenue'" March 31, 2012, discusses the pressure senior administrators exerted in enrolling new students to the point of obtaining grants for mentally ill patients in the local clinic, homeless shelters, and recruiting foreign students for programs that did not exist. The joke at MSU, "If it breathes, it can attend MSU."
"Lawsuit accuses Polk, MSU of racketeering" August 6, 2012 says MSU is under investigation for mail fraud in a crminal racketeering scheme over the past decade and that Polk and MSU officials "violated the WV Consumer Credit Protection Act and committed fraud and breach of contract." "MSU misled students both via email and in public advertisements."
"University of Charleston taking over Mountain State's campuses in Beckley and Martinsburg,' August 1 and "MSU to hold information sessions for students" August 6 are about the sale of the West Virginia campuses to UC and the requirements of the Higher Learning Commission to enable students to transfer. More bad news for students, only one university really interested in MSU students as others (WVU and Marshall) question the overall education MSU students have received.
Want something more light hearted to read? Try the July 25, 2012, article by Christine Miller Ford in the Spirit of Jefferson and Farmer's Advocate. Ms Ford examines the first book written by Charles Polk and Bill White, "Apex Thinking." Today known as "Apex Shrinking." This is the self published book these two men wrote and MSU press published. Polk tried to play himself as a `savior' of MSU but instead he played fast and loose with normal rules of management and used the coffers of MSU as his own so that while the school was dealing with the accreditation problems, Polk and White spent a year flying around the country in the MSU private plane on a publicity tour for their second book.
How does the sale affect MSU students in NC? Financial aid woes are part of their business model so make sure protect yourself and document everything with MSU. MSU has left Beckley in a scandal that has encompassed and torn apart their community. PROTECT YOURSELVES, GET YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER INVOLVED. In Beckley the mayor is under investigation for a $6 million Bond to MSU that may be under default. Can you be assured that your local officials are not involved with the campus in NC? And, money spent at your MSU `campus' and on administrator's residences at Lake Norman are being investigated as well.

Charleston Gazette provides insight into the management style at MSU:
"Polk's `Apex Thinking' is Ethics in Reverse", Feb 15, 2012 by Robert Byers. This is the first book written by now deposed Polk and the top Administrator at the Mooresville campus, Bill White. Most UN-academic book ever written by people who have Ed.D.'s and was published only because it is self published by MSU Press.
"Law Kept Vets in Dark About MSU," July 25, 2012, Amy Julia Harris. Also, there is a Police Department in Texas that has filed a lawsuit over MSU's online programs. Veterans were getting worthless degrees at MSU like the MSSL (Master's in Strategic Leadership) which is known publically as Missile program.
Look at the credentials of MSU faculty and you will see that about 50% of them (including adjuncts) have MSSL degrees. Look at the people teaching in Mooresville: Roy E. Alston (graduate of Walden) has taught at the ridiculously named Charles Polk School of Leadership, Jimmy Atkins, also professor at CP School of Leadership and appears to have no academic degrees.
"Was Charles Polk a Machiavelli at MSU?" Feb 11, 2012, Amy Julia Harris. Remember, Bill White is involved in this book, too.
"Higher Ed Board Approves Private College Oversight," August 10, 2012, Amy Julia Harris. University of Charleston is involved with the West Va campuses but what about Mooresville?
"From Burning Bright to Flickering," August 14, 2012, Amy Julia Harris, provides information about MSU's implosion.
Bill White and Dallas Bragg in Mooresville MSU follow the management style Polk and White have made famous in Apex Thinking. It is a blueprint for the quickest way to pillage a local community and it involves local officials so ask questions of your mayor and Chamber of Commerce about their relationship with MSU. Make sure you have not been sold out for a ride on Polk's private plane.
