I am mad at this hat issue! Why did the mayor decide to envolve the police to escort Scribner out? To me Scribner is right to stand up for his rights. In my eyes the mayor took away his constitutional rights of freedom of expression. I read in the Journal star all the people who served are upset the only thing I have to say is if removing your hat is all you learned from your service I am scared for our country. It is also stated to serve and protect the constitution from all enemies forign and domestic. I think Mr. Scribner stood up for his contitutional rights and if you want to write blogs saying he isn't patriotic and he should have taken his hat off. That is fine somebody else stood up for your rights to even say or write that. I am glad this entire this in over and I agree thank GOD for Kroesing and Rogers!

When I was in the Air Force we were told to remove our hats in buildings. In fact wearing your hat inside a building was a pretty severe repremand. I'm sensing ornerness here.

If he still has a NAVY hat on he must be living in the past. Why would someone want someone like that on their city council? Why do some veterans amplify and trade on their past?

I commend Scribner for standing up for what is right. The rest of the story that is not told on this program is that the mayor put that sign up on his own. Scribner as a council member even said he didn't remember voting on that sign and to tell the people of David City what they could or could not wear at a meeting was insulting. I have spoken to both sides the mayor and Scribner I feel that the mayor, should have had a council vote on the no hat issue, I was a little courious why that sign was placed right before a ball association meeting with the city. But I do agree with the DCMADMAN, I am not a veteran so I don't know what they teach, but I have been sworn into a office before and they do teach you to support and defend the constitution from all enemies forign or domestic. I do feel the mayor took Scribners right of freedom of expression and also I feel he miss used his power to have the police chief escort him out of the room. I hope that the mayor will learn from his mistake and I hope the public will teach him of his mistake when it is time for re-election.

I find this hard to belief that this is still on the internet. What can I say I voted for Skip thinking he was a great buisnessman. I can see now that he has no regard for anybody questioning him or standing up for there rights. His treatment of the City employees is just uncalled for, making them call him for overtime? His micromanagment of the David City employees is why they have had two department heads quit. As far as his henchmen one is not in power anymore. He has just blamed everybody else for his 4 to 1 loss other than himself for not caring about the public. As far as I know he has attended the last meeting just to make everybody feel his dissapointment and try to stop progress by stating every rule or state regulation that he thinks he knows. I am a citizen of David City and I am not to fond of the people in power of our city. Scribner has listened to the poeple in the past and has gone door to door for answers other than re-election. If I lived in Scribner's ward he would have my vote but I do not. I do think he did the right thing by not removing his hat if only to make a statement to the mayor and the rest of the country since I have heard this was even on CNN. I do hope with two new council members in, power will shift the balance back into the council again and not a power hungry mayor or city administrator. With this I would ask Dana Jr (Skip) to think hard over the next year of his actions and I would also ask him not to run again as mayor. As far as the hat in which this topix is written about I feel it was necessary to shake up the council and the mayor to make them feel that they are elected people not a royal blood line. With this I leave you saying that Scribner is the real McCoy well done.

Agreed Same for the Navy, indoors uncovered. Like the lady in the hajib in court, no headwear in court or state or federal meeting rooms. If he has medals or awards on his hat then wear a dress jacket or blazer and place them on the lapel. Every military award has a lapel device for just such an occasion. Sorry I can't support a fellow sailor on this one. Althought I am curious what type of hat it was..

Mad Dog, It was a plan Jane US NAVY VETERAN hat. No medals and he was not carrying a fire arm so if he was still in the Navy then yes he would be in trouble. But to my knowledge he has been turned into a sillyvillian and has completed his time of service. Like most sillyvillians most people wear hats also socks, shoes, and in some cases cloths all together. I just wonder if next time if he dosn't wear black socks or a white t-shirt is he going to be kicked out? Maybe even escorted out by the police again? Hell, why don't we even let the mayor drag out people from meetings he dosnt like and maybe we can keep them all in a camp? Maybe we can even go to the public library and start burning books in the street. You can't tell me that if you read all the comments above that the mayor is not abusing his power! Maybe that is why I am the DCMADMAN though too. Thank you for your service Mad Dog, it is because people like you that I can even write my MAD thoughts. Thank you for defending our freedoms.

Party in the streets of David City, book burns and a camp out. Lets all march and forget our rights. Blooming idiots, a hat is a hat what is the big deal. Forget it and move on, the mayor is the biggest idiot of them all for starting something that came back and hit him in the face.

Recall on the city of David. The mayor abusing power what a shock. People in power who don't care of the people, what a shock. Small town politics are so interesting. Why don't more people show up to meetings and voice there concerns. My opinion is that if a guy wants to wear a hat to a meeting let him, at least they show up who cares what they are wearing. After looking over the past agenda's of this city of David I think there is more to the story than is told. I feel that the Mayor is a power hungry person and that this Hat wearer is not afraid to stand up for himself or others. Something not seen in politics these days. I wonder if this Hat wearer is losing the will to stand up for people like most politicians. It is sad to see somebody thrown out of a meeting especially when they where voting on a budget for the year where the mayor new he was going to get some flack from the hat wearer. I wonder if this entire hat dictatorship wasn't planned out to remove a hat wearer to miss out on voting or raising a little cane over the budget. It is a sad world we live in when a small town mayor is acting like a spoiled brat and makes the news doing so. I hope more people wear hats to meetings now. Also, I hope people act like Americans and stand up for what is right not set there and do nothing.

i happened to come across this,, i know it is a while after the fact. But i didn't get a chance to comment when it happened. I know this kid. He is a fellow navy buddy and highschool friend to my son. It is a sad day, when one cannot stand up for what they believe in,, and be proud to show your affiliations in life. True, if Bill had still been in the service, then protocol is to remove the hat. But this is city hall people. Good ole nebraska, proud of who we are, and what we stand for. I believe this was just a power play on the mayors behalf,, not liking the fact that he had a "younger" person standing up to him. Too bad. I am proud of the fact that he stood up for what he believed in, and did not buckle to the whims of arrogant, unthankful, old man. When you have a person in a position, such as the mayor, who wants to be able to be in full control,, no give or compromise, then i think it is time to get rid of him.. Good luck David City. And Bill,,, I'm proud of ya,,you'll knoow who this is, when i mention you boys putting the truck in the ditch.......:):
