Perfect example to what the "Gang Life" will get you my friends...shattered families...lives taken..and the new life of the little criminal of hanging on the tier for the rest of his life...little gang bangers like this have no chance of getting parole..period!!! Gang affilation will put the wazz on that!! his family can expect to stand in line on visiting days (now thats fun) but eventually that will stop...then that lonely time turning gray, getting old and then that pine box... and for what? Gangs????? Losers!!! Johnny at the Harbor, Amazed at Dummies.

"I was wrongly convicted by the jury because of the D.A.'s manipulative ways," Cardenas said, dressed in yellow jail-issue clothes and seated next to his defense attorney, Art Dudley. "I turned myself in, trusting law and everything got twisted around."

He should do life. He took a life and feels the conviction is wrong. Raised by wolves. No sense of personal responsibility, no honor. Sickening. If he ever gets out he will kill again. He's already entrenched in his gang life behind bars and would only continue that life on the outside.

society can no longer afford to house and feed people like this in prison, they are sucking money away from us that could be used for decent kids

maybe save a kindergarden student from this kind of thing

bring back the death penalty

Now when can we get rid of the rest of the thugs on Younglove Avenue into prison so we can have the area back? If you live on the Westside become aware of the house that harbors these criminals. It may save your life.

Two families are in agony over the loss of their sons. It could so easily happen to any of us. My heart goes out to all of them.

Cry me a river. They raised their kid wrong. They family should have their citizenship revoked (if they have any) and they should be sent back to Mexico.

STOP expecting the Judge to give you cookies, milk and a hand slap. Just be thankful you did not receive a death penalty sentence.

What do you mean "it could so easily happen to any of us"??

WRONG!

It only can happen if you have kids. Every parent thinks they're fit to be parents, right? Well OBVIOUSLY they are NOT!

Its good to see that the judicial system is finally realizing that locking up the gang rats is the only way to stop the violence. We have to take our community back or we will continue to lose our children. Shame on this boys father for saying the punishment is too harsh for taking someone elses life.

What about the girl that started this whole chain of events? She rented the room then after she had sex with Cardenas she accused the victim of robbing her which caused him to lose his life. Does she have any accountability in all of this or will they just say it was a "bad choice" on her part? Sad that us parents arent doing their job.

I don't get it -- 16 years to life is NOT a life sentence (as the headline states.

Won't this boy be out in 8 years?
