And it HAD to be LIME sherbet? Nothing but the best for a party dedicated to ending poverty for needy women.

I like your comments for the most part, even when we most often disagree. But why the constant negativity? I really do not get it, even if you are trying to be funny. Poor limes. Nobody to stand up for them.

Exploitive letter

Being an acquaintance of Elizabeth Wiltsee during her time in Watsonville, I was at first gratified to see the letter from Matthew Nathanson praising the showing of the documentary on her life. Then I was disappointed to see it turned into an apparent opinion letter advocating policies to keep our county a magnet for homeless drifters at the expense of longtime residents in need. Why shouldn't limited services be allocated on a first here first serve basis?

It's not the first time I've seen the Praiseworthy section exploited for political messages, but it's certainly the first time I've seen it used to exploit a tragic death. Shame on you, Matthew.

James Kahl was lucky hospice stepped up to help his wife. They abandon our family and left my Mom to suffer. They are are a terrible organization, grossly mismanaged,. and they have no business representing themselves as caring, individuals. I have never experienced such rude behavior, such neglect and incompetence. Be forewarned, if you have a loved one dying, do not bother to call Hospice, they will not bother to help. They left our family with no help after they promised to not only show up but be a part of her death helping the family. Bull- I did everything myself as they never showed up. The horrifying trauma they caused will scar our family for years to come. My Mother before she died, said she was disgusted she ever did fundraising for them.

I have seen Hospice improve from what it once was. I find your story very surprising. Over the last 5 years I have been with family or friends who were dying more times than I would have liked. Each time Hospice did and outstanding job compared to what I saw in the late 80's and nineties. I nor the family had any complaints this last time which was a long rough road. They were angels. My brother in Law's mother was dying while I was living there, they came daily and whenever we called they came right out. They were informative, compassionate and we could not have asked for more. I am sorry for your experience. Even in the early 90's they were better than what your describing. Are you saying they NEVER showed up? Or did you maybe have an issue with one person? I would call them and speak to the director. I hope yours was an isolated incident that never should have happened. I hope maybe this issue can just help them improve. I assure you, this is not the norm. I'm very sorry for your loss & wish you had the support you and your family needed.

How did they abandon you yet never show up? I just feel there is something missing from your story. I mean no disrespect. If you do not want to answer, of course don't. After some thought it seems fair to ask since you posted this. I'm not saying they are perfect. They are run by human beings. What was the conflict that led to the abandonment? I ask respectfully. Its just so far from my experiences with them, and many of the volunteers I have met and known. I would like to know whats changed or if this is an isolated incident.

Thank you for your touching response. I am glad your family got the help they needed. No they never showed up and when I went to the director, I was told they were to overwhelmed and would not be able to help our family. They lied in the entrance interview and lied when they arranged equipment, nursing, home health care, none of which ever arrived. I did it all myself. They will never redeem themselves in the eyes of our family. I have since found out it is often the norm with them. Do not give money to this organization, it does not go to patient care, it goes to inflated salaries.

They abandon us by not showing up when they promised when I brought my Mom home from the
hospital to die. Nothing, not a phone call or any explanation. WHen I talked to the director I was told my family was "forgotten" as they were overwhelmed and they would not be able to help us as they had to many patients and not enough staff. Yet they mislead us in the entrance interview to believe they would provide hospice care. I was left with a dying patent in need of medical care to figure it out on my own without any help from hospice. They also neglected to deliver any of the equipment Medi care paid for. I think this organization is suspect and does this to many families that never speak up. When I called the paper for a story, the story was not done correctly and actually put them in a good light, mis reading the intent of the story. Do not give money to this organization, it goes to inflated salaries and does no good for patients. The only relief we get is continuing to spread our story, and preventing many donations along the way as we have done all year. It is sad and unfortunate that my Mother did fund raising for them all her working life.
Thank you

Thank you so very much for answering my questions. You were very kind to do so. I am so very sorry this happened. Its hard enough when you have help. I know. This maddens me to no end. I am going to be writing some letters and calling the director myself. Again, thank you for taking the time and energy to answer me.
Thanks
