Everyone involved should have been thrown in jail. The motel clerk for renting a room to a 14 year old girl and her parents for lack of control over her. All the boys for drinking, smoking and sex with a minor.

Parents. Do you know where your kids are?

The girl not being sure whether or not the teen was intentionally stabbed will be a big point in the trial probably. The testimony of the teens will also be suspect because of their age and that it happened last fall, but the police recorded their statements. Third-degree murder (10-20 years) looks to be the most likely ruling in this case, although you never know.

If this happened in Scotland this sounds like a case, were I on the jury, that I might consider going with the verdict of "not proven".

Many involved should have lessons to learn, but sadly, they probably won't. Who sold the liquor to these kids? Where did the 14 year old get that ID? How common are these teen hotel parties? Many are not being held responsible for their involvement.

Wow, a 14 year old girl can have a fake id, rent a room, obtain alcohol, have sex with a boy she just met in that motel room, get into a fight with another boy, and watch him be murdered. My question is why is a 14 year old girl able to do all this?

While I think that all the teens and adults involved should be held responsible, the 14 year old girl in particular, sounds like she was probably pretty screwed up already based on the details given and now will never be able to escape the fact that she was directly involved in the death of another human being - over drugs & alcohol.

Hey Cardena's... so you like knives and taking advantage of younger girls?
Well its good you like this behavior, because prison is going to treat you to shanks and **** rape... they love young boys like you in prison punk. Enjoy.
A classic example of how to waste your life.
The parents of the 14 year old girl should be made to take parenting lessons.

The guy that had sex with the 14yo was 17 at the time.

The girl probably told her parents that she was staying at a friends house for the night.
The people that sold a 14 year old (no matter how much makeup or clothes, still won't look 21) alcohol and the fake id are the ones that you should look for.
As sad as it is, I doubt the girl cares much, sounds like she is pretty shallow herself. Probably pregnant now too. Great another welfare baby....
When is it that parents are no longer responsible for what their kids do behind their backs. You raise kids to do the right thing, but yet they "know it all" and do whatever they want. You can't lock them in their rooms, CPS will be at your door, but when they break the law, the parents have to pay the price. That doesn't sound right, does it?
Frustrated parents of teenagers, praying for the day they turn 18.

This FAMILY has a long history of violence in Santa Cruz West side. I think one uncle shot his own mother 64yrs who, apparently, was no saint herself.

Charges: 664/187 PC
38 years-old - Santa Cruz Resident
VICTIM(S): 36 year-old male Santa Cruz Resident
64 year-old female Santa Cruz Resident
INFORMATION:
On September 29, 2007 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Santa Cruz Police officers responded to the 300 Block of
Younglove Avenue for a report of shots fired within a house. Upon arrival officers located the suspect, Juan Antonio
Cardenas outside of the residence. One of the victims, a thirty-six year-old male relative of Mr. Cardenas, was just
outside of the front door suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. Officers immediately detained Mr.
Cardenas and carried the male victim to nearby medics. Santa Cruz Police Department officers entered the
residence and found another victim, a sixty-four year-old female relative of Mr. Cardenas in the hallway. The female
victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip area. The male victim was flown to an out-of-county trauma
center in serious condition for medical treatment. The female victim was transported to a local hospital in stable
condition. According to witness statements it appears that Mr. Cardenas engaged in a verbal altercation with the
male victim preceding the shooting. It is unclear what the argument was about or what the specific motive was for
the shooting. At this time the department is still searching the residence and nearby area for the weapon used in the
incident. Juan Antonio Cardenas was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for attempted homicide

Well then I guess he can bond with his uncle in prison.
The bigger story here, I think, is that this whole scenario is probably quite common in the lower beach flats area. Right?

You all really need to get your facts straight before judging. Do you know the outcome of this?? Yeah probably not. The Cardena's do have history and criminal records but I can say that they have been labled by older sibling and relatives so anything that happens is already decided. I haven't seen Johnathon's Father in over 25 years and yes, I do know what he has been accused of. I can tell you that I have been around him drunk many of times and alone and he has never been anything but a friend to me. Freddie would do anything to protect his friends and sound like his son has done the same. The death of this young boy is very unfortunate, but hitting women is not ok in any situation. HE DID GO back, he should have left. You don't have all the facts. I'm sure he will go to prision not only for murder but because his name is Cardenas and there is nothing fair about that!! He has the right to a "fair" trial!!

Sounds like Caredenas comes from a family that never learned how to control their anger. How sad that it will be the ruin of his life. Now he will have to face the anger and brutality of the grown men in prison. He wont stand a chance.

SC Local,
You should probably be hauled in for your poor judgement in friends as well. We'll go ahead and pre-empt this problem before you go the way of your buddies. Enjoy your low income housing and knives, I'll keep paying taxes so you have a place to live. Your welcome
