In the Netherlands, where pro-legalization of marijuana groups point to as a mecca, driving under the influence of marijuana is treated the same as driving under the influence of alcohol and hard drugs. If you are caught driving while stoned you will lose your license from 3-5 years. End of story.

Currently the Dutch government is working on a few proposals to stem the recreational use of marijuana within their borders. The interesting things is that it's not to stop their citizens from smoking, it's to stop foreigners from coming there for vacations thinking Holland is an easy drug environment. There is a proposal being worked on to develop an ID/Card system for Dutch citizens giving them the ability to obtain and use restricted amounts of marijuana for personal/medical use. If you want to go into a "coffee shop" and purchase, you'll have to have an identification card only permitted to Dutch citizens and legal immigrants. If you want to light up while walking down the street, you'll have to have an identification card showing you are registered to do so.

The reason for doing this is to stop what the Dutch call "Drug Tourism". The Dutch have reached a point where they realize foreigners are coming to their shores with the only purpose o getting stoned 24/7 while on vacation. It has caused big problems for them. They feel that their very liberal towards personal drug use is being taken advantage of by.....Americans. They want this to stop. They have started to view the American attitude towards marijuana use as unhealthy as most people take it to excess. For them it is a form of medicine, not to be only used for recreational purposes.

Recently they have banned the sales and use of mushrooms to all. It used to be in the same category as marijuana in their legal system. Now it has been moved into the category of "hard drugs". The next phase of their plan is to implement the marijuana identification system.

Driving under the influence of any mind altering drug is wrong.
