Not true. When I was living in the dorms as a freshman, the VPD was called because my roommate was being loud and obnoxious. We were all heavily intoxicated, but she was the only one acting out. We all spoke calmly to the officers(being careful not to slur), except for her who was being very rude, and none of us got arrested except for her. And I know that our dorm and breath reeked of alcohol. They ARE campus police, they don't have much else to do. If a student plans to get hammered, they better know how to control their actions and mouth. I do not think that the VPD are out to get all underage drinkers, they just get the ones that are stupid enough to draw attention to themselves. Also, if a student is drunk and are approached by an officer, they should know how to be respectful instead of automatically getting the "Oh shit" attitude and act defensive.

Well my little red eyed booger, you are so majestic in making fun of the remerton police dept. why don't you look down your very narrow nose yourself and ask? what if it were my mother, sister, brother or father one of these dui drivers hit and kill. you sat they wait for you to get into your car to stop you do you really think stopping them at the door and bible thumping them and telling them now don't you drive you have been drinking will stop them. If you do you are the idiot you portray yourself to be. Go do something with your time that is constructive like suck your mom;s tit. By the way you need to be tit broke. whiny baby.

One topic to discuss...is the laughing joke that we call REMERTON POLICE DEPARTMENT...do you know Remerton Police prides itself on DUI arrests? It seems its easier to arrest DUI offenders than actually prevent. After talking to 2 diff. Valdosta/Remerton officers, the department...chooses a technique to catch offenders by awaiting outside of remerton until the intoxicants are already in the vehicle. Instead of stopping them at the bar before entrance of the vehicle they pride to get another DUI number. over 600 DUI arrests last year...they rather you commit the crime and be caught..than actually stop you before getting in the vehicle...in turn preventing incidents at all (Real "Protect" and Serve)...NOTE: and why isn't there any (if not just 1 but more) Taxi Services in Remerton (and why do they close earlier)? mmmm....must be another way to increase that DUI statistic...hey! RPD and VPD....high fuckin' five

Well I was advised by an ex police officer that they are not trying to stop the kids from drinking buy doing any bar checks they are just waiting to catch them after words .Check Remerton ,Ga Police department that operates in the City of Valdosta and Loundes,County they have a large case load of young offenders that have been arrested. Then they run the m through Court like cattle and if they want a fair trial they keep them coming back over and over again to they are exhausted from returning to court to be postponed until next court date. You ask is this a problem ask a few students and adults that were passing trough and live in other states and was told they did not care if they lost jobs and other things that they better return each time until their case is called .But if you pay court ,City probation and so forth (plea guilty no matter what )then you can probably get out in reasonable time with the whole process and I heard they might not send it into the state if you plea guilty and pay .This is what I was told By an ex- investigator for Sherriff's Department from another County who was there trying to observe their court procedure and stated he was treated very rued until they realized that he was someone who knows the difference in professionalism and scam

As an out of towner with a kid at VSU, I am very curious to know if my perception that the Valdosta Police Department takes satisfaction in busting 18 years old for drinking is accurate. Do these police officers "high five" each other after they "bust" a group of kids with Bud Light in the frig? Does Valdosta have any real crime? What is the perception of this police department among VSU students?

I am a VSU student, very responsible and successful in my college career. I have been in trouble a few years ago for being a minor in position, and I took the punishment and learned my lesson just like everyone else. Of course the REMERTON police gave me the worst sentence they could possible give, but hey that's their job and their choice as a police officer. However, I am now in need of their help for an investigation of stolen property and I can 100% say, this police department is the most pathetic excuse for a police force that I have ever come in contact with. Those men and women who serve for REMERTON PD are not helpful and do not care about this community at all. The only time you will see them in action is waiting in front of the bars, just anticipating for the next innocent college student to fuck up. It's really sad because some of these students are just enjoying college, having fun at the bars with their friends and the cops are just wanting to take that away for their own damn pride. I have absolutely no respect for any REMERTON police officer by the way I have seen them act these past 3 years. Maybe you should pay less attention to busting kids for drinking (they're going to underage drink whether you stop them or not so don't waste your time) and more time actually helping your community with real problems like stolen property! I can't even get a call back from your department. Not to mention every person who works at your department is a damn idiot. I love Valdosta state university but I will advise future students to avoid coming to this school because of how terrible the police officers are. Some of them will really ruin your time here at college and it is not worth it.

Yep.

Underage drinkers are their cash cow.

I never got busted in Remerton (I could have MANY TIMES), but people I know did.

And for underage drinking, not DUI. Drunk driving is dangerous and I'm OK with people getting busted for that. But a 20-year-old having a beer, come on.

And that's some BS they don't help with crimes that actually have victims (like you, with your property being stolen)

And people wonder why people have problems with those who don't serve and protect, but rather target and harass.

5357534abc, I lived in Valdosta for four and one half years and I can tell you the REMERTON police were not just after the young. Everyone who lives in Valdosta that's been through Remerton can tell you about them giving out speeding tickets. I was lucky enough not to get one because there I drove 5 mph under their speed limit. However, I knew plenty of people who did receive tickets.

The time I live there people did not speak too highly of the Remerton Police.
