I don't know any other race that call each other demeaning words that are particular to their race.

I have never seen another white person jokingly call another yt person a cracker.

Blacks have been able to turn the n word into something else, but they get mad when someone else uses it. You can't call each other b*tches and hos and ni$$as and expect other people to look at you with respect.

The term of endearment/family thing people use for this word is an excuse. White supremacy created that term and you better believe you are still perpetuating white supremacy when you use it. I don't know about the rest of all of you, but growing up in my house, regardless of who used it or if it had an a or an er, the word was an insult.

Slaves also used the word and they got it from their masters. You can put a bow on a pig but at the end of the day its still a damn pig. You can say that word is a term of endearment or loses its power when black people use it but that does not erase the ugliness of the word.

Interesting responses so far. After hearing about rappers Kreayshawn, V-Nasty and their use of the word kind of made think to make this thread also.

First, let me say that I don't think anyone should say it but I know that the word isn't going to stop being used anytime soon. Anyway, I've always wondered why black people never get up in arms about other nationalities such as Puerto Rican using the n-word. It doesn't bother me personally because I know that they don't mean it in a racist way.

It's fcked up and I think it's stupid and offensive. I'll admit, I get less offended when my own race does it (for some reason, can't explain it, it's just less anger) compared to other races.

White dudes on my campus say that shit to the other white dudes in their clique and I always turn around and stare at them. They.don't.even.bat. a.lash. They don't care.

Black dudes and puertorican dudes saying it seems to have less damage on me than a caucasian saying it & it doesn't matter if the caucasian ISN'T racist.

then YOU have an issue. its a word, and the only person that gives it power is YOU. dare i say that YOU are racist, considering you have a "self described" problem with whites saying it more than you do any other group.

I'm guilty of this. Used to say it way more when I was younger but I have wisened up and realize how overused the word is, with all races. Just sounds uneducated and (especially) not classy of a female to use in everyday conversation. I'm not trying to make excuses, but I picked it up growing up hanging around alot of male uncles whose crews consisted of hispanic and black people.

It's a habit that's hard to shake when you've done it for so long. Now I'm trying to cut back on using the word "mad".

Sane people of other races know they can't say it. More importantly, they have NO desire to say it. It's just like with my gay friends. They call one another the f word and queen. Do I say it?

No,because being straight,it takes on a whole new context given the history of the word, even though they know I am down.

Like in the eastcoast,Latinos get away with saying it. NOT in the South. If you aren't Black, you will either get your ass kicked or cursed out.

People who whine about not being able to say the n word are brats coming from a world of privilege and can't believe there is something they can't do. Why the strong burning desire to be able to say it in the first place?

I have been around all races of people and I am married to a black man, but I never say the n word. People just think everything is acceptable cause you got a few black friends. Say it to them in front of someone you don't know and see how they cringe. It is never acceptable to me.

Nobody should be using that word regardless of color. Hell I am convinced the reason so many white, hispanic, asian, etc folks say it now is because it has become a part of popular culture. How many songs have the word? How many movies? I know I find myself changing words when I sing along to a song with that word. IMO ya can't have it all over the radios and tv's and then tell everyone who you don't approve of saying it not to say it. Just my opinion.

I don't use the word myself, but I've had black friends call me that. Wondering if many black people use it with other races, or if it is just a case of friends being comfortable with me and not thinking about what color I am?

Whites popularized this term.

But Blacks have kept this term relevant in society today. If they can't respect themselves enough to not use it, why should they care who else does?

What I find interesting is, is that a lot of non-black people who use the N-word are quick to say that they are not black & that they are (insert ethnicity here).I used to know this P-rican guy who made it clear he was p-rican and nothing else. It's like he almost got offended if someone thought he was black, yet he used the N word all the time.
