Well, this is as good a time to diet as any.

The National Enquirer (hey, they were right about John Edwards) claims to have obtained video footage of First Lady of Lard Paula Deen casually admitting to using the n-word.

Now her bacon-doughnut-egg burger is only the second most disgusting thing she’s affiliated with.

And this is just one more in a string of disgusting details from a 2012 lawsuit against Deen by disgruntled former employee Lisa Jackson. Other allegations include that Deen enjoys racist jokes and wanted to cast black men as slaves for a wedding, inspired by a restaurant she and her husband had visited (“I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America”)— if inspired is the word you use for an idea like that. If true, as they say, this is news.

So what do you do about news like this? Boycott butter?

The PR agents for butter are panicking somewhere right now.“It’s not affiliated!” they keep shouting into phones.“Butter distances itself from all these words! Butter is ashamed of its years of association with Paula Deen.”

Then again, if this news makes you want to curl up and die, you should eat more of her cooking, not less.

But if these racist rumors are substantiated (hey, remember the time she said that if invited to the White House she would cook fried chicken and watermelon for President Obama, as this blogger points out?) what do we do? Try to get her to eat her words? She’s used to devouring gross, mistaken combinations.

If her career survived the news that she was battling Type 2 diabetes, it might be able to overcome this, too. How poisonous do someone’s statements have to be before you have to put down the fork? The fact of a man’s being a poisoner, as Oscar Wilde used to say, is nothing against his poetry — although it would probably argue against his cooking.

It would almost be worse if the person who suggests that you close all your arteries for good by eating lard wrapped in lard tucked lovingly inside lard held sound, enlightened views about other areas of life. How enlightened can you be if your idea of a sandwich is a hamburger patty and egg between two donuts?

I stand by my usual policy, though, that this is nothing against her recipes. They are disgusting enough on their own.

You realize don't you that the woman suing her is white? She said she used the word after being robbed by a black man at gunpoint. This is simply extortion by a slime bag attorney.

Look into the story a little more before opening your big ignorant pie holes.

I only have to read one paragraph to know this is a very pathetic article~~ so you like to insult people ~ I thought that is what Paula Deen did and ya'll are supposed to get away with it?~~ I don't think so~~ look at your own self before you start pointing fingers at other people.

Maybe I'm the exception but I really can't understand why people are upset or shocked by this. Could it be because we believe too much in what the media is trying to sell us or shove down our throats on a daily basis?

Most people are trying to sell an image, as is this southern heffa. Her food is atrocious when it comes to taking the responsibility to promote such an unhealthy diet to a nation with the highest rate of obesity and diabetes (which she also has). Her southern drawl sounded good on tv and she sold herself as a fun loving southern woman. People fall for that shit easily, hence her success.

But the probabilities of her having some form of racism running through her veins (not biologically but historically) are pretty high, especially given her age. SO I don't get why everyone is calling her every name in the book. As a chef I'm more offended by her promoting an unhealthy diet, hiding her diabetes and selling death to people with her bullshit food.

Yes, as a black woman I don't like the fact that she's a racist but I genuinely don't get why people are so surprised and outraged. Blame the media and the public who help elevate these people to the level that they're at. She is who she is, people are just mad that they were fooled by her persona.

I'm shocked that people are shocked at this. I have never personally cared if someone non-black likes me or is racist. I hate people who try to force other people to like them. Blacks seem to have supreme insecurities when it comes to being accepted by non-blacks. Do you think these people who are trying to sell you a product. Are just going to get on t.v. and say n____r this and n___r that? The same people were shocked about Mel Gibson's opinion. Are blacks this naive now? Grow a backbone, put on your big boy shoes and stop whining about people's opinion of you. Stop di.ck riding so much and worry about improving your own communities. That's what really hurts some of you people. Is that the whites who you constantly put on a pedestal. Could give two shits about you.

I went to her restaurant website that someone posted. It looks like the servers and cooks were black but hostesses and managers were white. Did she have blacks in any higher positions besides cook? Any black investors? But she'll have black folks cooking the actual food that makes her popular. She doesn't have to use the n-word to show her true colors.

It's not a question of wanting someone to like us, it is a question of demanding equality!!

For instance, the other day I was in the store and the cashier was laughing and talking with the person in front of me but when it was my turn to check out she did not say hi, did not acknowledge me at all (she actually kept her head down and would not look at me) until she snatched the money out of my hand. As I was leaving she said "Bye GIRL." Do I care that she didn't like me? No. Do I care that she was overtly rude to me? Yep. Did I get her behind in trouble over it? Absolutely.

Getting upset about these types of things is not showing white people we care what they think (I certainly don't) but that they don't get to treat people in such a way with no consequences.

The very attitude of "ignore it because I am strong and I don't care" is the same attitude that encourages racism and the inequality that comes with it.

agreed, these lousy lazy hypocrites always looking for free handouts, if they hate that word so much then why do they always use in rap songs... oh I forgot, its only use, the free meal ticket, god forbid a white person may say that word, then they are racist. but then that person to be considered white trash.. but that's not a racial slur... how about I say black trash, let's see if that offends anybody. such a double standard these days. and then she caved in and had to apologize to appease, for what... again it won't make a difference, and again somebody has to bow down.. should have just stood her ground, funny that you can have just about everything taken from you just because you said one word, whatever happened to freedom of speech, everybody has an opinion, just because somebody doesnt like a word, you must be punished by losing everything you've worked hard to achieve and then have some scumbag come in and take it over a stupid word I wish they would have WET, like they have BET, but then that would be racist, see what I mean, double standard again.

every time the truth comes out, that makes one a bigot or a racist. there is no one to stick up for my race, like Jesse Jackson or Sharpton. and I'm sure I have more class than you'll ever have. sick and tired of hearing about this kind of crap. just another way to extort money from somebody who has it and has worked hard probably for a long time, for someone to come in and try to make it an easy payday

Has nothing to do with how you are brought Up..I was brought up in the slums of atlanta.the ghetto. Never been to jail, never sold dope, and I got out of my moms house.never lived in poverty again...everyone is brought up a certain way.unless your completely brainwashed..you choose to carry on that life you lead growing up or you take a different path..good or bad....I was taught not to date white women because they would get you into trouble.my whole life I was told that. Im 26 and I don't discriminate against any color
