I just read a rant by the Mayor on the Village website. He's upset about a flyer he says has been circulated with the photo of the Village's bucket truck and Village employee working on the Canterbury Inn's sign. I haven't seen any flyers and my neighbors on the North Side haven't seen them either.
He also takes a shot at Trustee Bartoczek for having an "illegal basement" (whatever that means). What's that got to do with the flyer.
He seems to be using the Village website for politics.

Vote for the party that doesn't even know how to file petitions?

I mean, the mayor is an idiot, but these people must be mentally handicapped.

You mean the petition that was filed too early but was readily accepted/stamped by the current village clerk who just happens to be of the opposing party? This means one of two things:

She is either incompetent because she of all people should have known the forms were turned in too early, OR she has no morals and submitted the paperwork knowing it would not go through. Thus, enabling her party to run unopposed in the election...

Which is it?

No I don't think that they are mentally challanged, I think that the village clerk knew the rules and failed to inform them for political reasons.

You can't have it both ways. I'm not a fan of the clerk but it isn't the job of the clerk to tell you that you are doing something wrong. It is expected that any political candidates that are filing for office actually know how to file paperwork. Or fund raise the money for an attorney to help them. Since this party already had their fundraiser there were some funds available. According to the DVN the lawyer they had quit or disappeared at some point during this.

This doesn't mean that her party can run unopposed, they can file paperwork for a new party, which I believe they already did.

If you can't file the paperwork correctly to land on a ballot that's a pretty bad sign that none of your candidates can figure out forms.

Bottom line if you want to run for office at least bother to figure out how to do it. So far all this group has done is complain, just like every other group of justice politicians.

"but it isn't the job of the clerk to tell you that you are doing something wrong."?

@ wait: I think that you've had one too many at Daverns on 79th with comments like that.

In case you did not know, the clerk is a paid public official, and she is supposed to render the aid necessary for particular problems or guide the taxpayers in the right direction if the need arises, and at all times, not only when it suits her political needs.

For your info, this is from the village website "About the Clerk's Office" It reads in part:
"Village Clerk Kathy Svoboda is often called upon to serve as an advocate for village residents and aid with a particular problem.

Whether it be traversing the bureaucracy of another government agency or filling out an application for assistance, a Circuit Breaker, property-tax appeal, etc., she is always willing and available to oblige"... What part of "ADVOCATE, and she is always willing and available to oblige"... don't you understand.

My opinion, Kathy is a nice lady, really. However, she was derelict in her duties as Village Clerk for not pointing out the mistake about the filing to JK and his party. One could say this was political shenanigans on ill-gotten advice from her political friends. Even so, who knows... these are village politics at its nastiest. BEWARE

Advocating is one thing. If you come in and need food she can direct you to a food pantry.

If you don't know how to fill out LEGAL paperwork she isn't a lawyer and can't advise you. Are you saying that our village clerk should be giving out legal advise that might leave our village open for a law suit? That's what you want a clerk to do?

No clerk should be put into that position period.

If you don't know how to fill out papers seek legal counsel to help you.

The clerk was damned if she did or damned if she didn't. If she said something then she'd be accused of trying to skew the other party or set them up to fail. You don't get to stand on both sides of the fence.

That party screwed up, majorly, it's their fault, not the clerks. They need to own it and move forward instead of crying about it because it just makes them look bad.

No offense, but I don't think you know the siggnificance of
"advocate", it means...To speak, plead, or argue in favor of... I don 't think that the Clerk did any of those things when approached by JK, do you?

And let's get the record straight, he was not asking to be directed to a food pantry, actuaslly he was hoping that she would be knowledgeable enough to direct him on how to file the correct paperwork.

At that point, the Clerk is not a political entity but a public servant. Unfortunately, a village official thrown askew by her political bosses. Hey it happens, even in this crappy little village. VOTE VIP...I THINK.

I know the signifigance and and the definition.

To advocate doesn't mean to provide free legal advice.

It is not a clerk's job, regardless of who the clerk is, to give out LEGAL advice. It's the responsibility of any party running for office to obtain legal counsel if they don't know what they're doing. Not to go to the village they are seeking to file papers in and get free legal advice.

A clerk should NEVER give out legal advice, because that could get a village, SUED, and cause tax payers to have to pay for it. So what you are saying, and the PVP/VIP is saying is that we should have to be liable for those situations because they did something wrong?

If he came in and said "Hey, what is the ordinance on having dog licenses?" Then a clerk should be able to provide a person with a copy of a LOCAL ordinance.

What he was doing was filing STATE paperwork. Stop being cheap and pay for a lawyer. I don't want to pay for a lawsuit from something like this and neither should you. If none of your candidates have figured out how to file the papers, and at least two of them have ran before, one more than twice- there's a big problem there.

Isn't this the same group of people that stormed in there with a video camera trying to prove the clerk was negligent for not being in the office when they came in on the WRONG date to file papers anyway? Sounds like more Justice politic reindeer games.

Speaking of LAWSUITS and getting SUED, how is the one the mayor got us into with the contractors regarding the giant dirt hill in Ashbury Woods going? Mr. Small, we must know your thoughts on this.
