Maybe you should learn how to spell and type before you criticize others. Also, how many players from last year's team are playing in college? Coach Smith sent 20+ kids to college. Who cares if it is D1 or not. I don't know who your kid is but I can guarantee you that he will not go D1, or D2, and probably not D3 either. And maybe you should check your facts first before you talk all high and mighty about this year's team. The 2008-2011 teams were pretty damn good, just couldn't get over the hump. Parents ALWAYS say this will be the year. This year will not be any different than the last handful. Also, look more into your coach Haskins that you are putting a crown on. He is not a good person and he should have been fired long ago.
for one again I don't go back to ck my spelling as I'm typing frome a phone ...I do have better things to do for 2 if u read my posts it doesn't matter d1 or d3...for 3 my son is already in college playing d2ball...I will have another son that will be at rhs in 2yrs as we just moved into area...as for coach smith I do not know him. We did play against him with my older son and I am not here to bash him in anway, I'm just saying give haskins a chance...I also know who u probably are because my sons friend played for romeoville they played travel ball togather and I. Can tell you this their travel coach put videos togather and sent them to the colleges they were interested in...their travel team had all 15 kids get scholarships and I believe even one is playing in single a...so don't sit their and accuse me of bashing anyone...my sons friend never had anything bad to say about smith...but u people r trashing haskins and these young athletes before given a chance.

I would not be surprised because I've seen it first-hand, but thanks for the suggestion. I said there were anomalies, but the rule is that if all other things are equal (hands, footwork, BA, BABIP, etc), most coaches will go with size. It makes for a more versatile, durable player.

My son is not much bigger than yours, by the way. Size isn't everything. Skill and focus and "coachability" go a long way for college players, for sure.

As far as D1, D2, D3, etc - every kid wants to play D1 but some need to "settle" for D2, D3, NAIA, etc - I know that. The higher divisions are much more competitive and demanding, and that can lead to stress, which affects grades. You're not telling anyone here anything they don't already know.

And you're being super defensive. I was just commenting on your post. I guess maybe that does make me an idiot.

D2 baseball is a great brand of ball. Go to a game at Lewis University and you will see quality baseball, plus a program on the rebound. The high level D2 programs are better than lower level D1. I would send my kid, who wants to play baseball at a high level to Nova Southeastern or Linn University in Florida before a low end MAC school or Mountain West for the matter.

As for Haskins, the jury is out. The conference he is in is not tough nor is his non-conference schedule. Yes Plainfield North is stacked but goes no where during state. Minooka is the best year in and out on the state level. The rest is not very good. If he is all that, he should be good in 2 or 3 years...but yea that is right a small freshman class may hamper that.

still don't understand why the freshmen class is considered small. yes, one of the top players is small. have you seen that kid play? the others are descent size kids. my son knows at least 5 of those freshmen and i think 4 are already nearing 6'. unless you mean the talent is a small sample. if so, they hhave more higher end talent than most, but yes it falls off after the top 6 of them. that top 6 is very good though

Group that is eligible and that will try out is a very small group as in number of kids playing ball. As for the talent level, kids are AVERAGE TO BELOW at best. High end talent would not be a good description of this bunch. Too many DADDY BALL players. Never had to compete for a starting role. As for the TOP PLAYER that is considered small...I think his mom helped him get that position. I think his father invented DADDY BALL. I viwed the incoming freshmen team during their summer season and was not impressed with what I saw.

If your saying that you viewed them all this summer on thier travel team, than your false. half of them don't play in town. one in lemont, one in orland, one somewhere else. If your referring to the coaches son, that isn't who I'm speaking of as 2 of the freshmen played varsity for the schools summer league. The mom/dad comment can also be proven false if you'd talk with them about who they like more haskins or smith. That and the fact that everyone's complaint is that Haskins is not approachable...Its safe to say that your assessment of the group is also false, seeing that everything else just was. "the one's who are eligible" comment is just ignorant, as you just wanted to fit a snide remark in and have no idea of their grades. Its one thing to slander parents, but they are still yet kids

Seems like every parent on here is a critic. From what i hear, Haskins works his tail off for his players and wants to send them to play college ball. Parents theses days have all the answers which has led to the generation to come to be known as the entitled generation. Everything is given to them by their parents (most parents at least). Everyone gets a trophy.

Sounds like your son got cut from a certain team and you have unresolved issues, which must not sit well with all that below average talent on it. Maybe you should take your ball and go home too.

And here come the Smith kisser's. It was a known fact we he was around all you had to do was chum up to him so your kid can get playing time. He was replaced for a reason. Maybe the fact he'd go out with parent at AVM for pizza and call them to bring doughout and coffee to him... Expecting someone to give their best is not bullying a person. Rumours are exactly that. Some kid that doesn't work hard and gets it from his coach then goes home to mommy and complains and mommy goes out and bashes coach. Thats where you get your rumours...Someone also mentioned a pipeline of talent when Smith was coaching. Umm, That pipeline went to JCA and other schools well before Haskins showed up. Fact is, if you don't keep up with this game year round you fall behind. Look at what others schools are doing and what HS level travel programs are offering and tell me the kid who goes from one sport to another can effectly keep up with ones who work year round. Then look at our wonderful youth programs and compare. Romeoville soccer is taking off because it is run well from the foundation up. Baseball in this town is hell on earth with kids flocking out of town just so they do't have to deal with mismanagment and bullcrap. Get real, it isn't always the coach. Sometimes kids can't hit or they can't throw a strike, and their parents still refuse to tell them they should try something else.(don't try soccer, I wouldn't want you people to mess up the only good thing we got right now). To me, Haskins is doing just right, getting the crappy parents and kids riled up and shipped out. There also a reason why everyone who has a kid in youth baseball and has worked with Haskins has nothing but praise for him.
That wasn't SMith who was screwing the AVM mom's, that was McVey. A year or two ago McVey had every Rattler momma on speed dial. Every one of those ladies couldn't wait to get a hand on that man's towel (HA HA). ALthough he did have a special place in his heart for one particular Rattler momma! THey were spotted multiple times at At's a Nice having dinner after games!

In that case, since everyone on here happens to know the world's secrets. how is it that some mom got her son a spot on the team this year (note all those rattler players where at freshmen tryout this afternoon and not varsity this evening) when niether Smith nor McVey are on this coaching staff? Seems to me like someone came on here to bash a certain parent(s) and can't seem to get stories together...I don't condone any rumor that the prior post spewed out, but it stuff like this that is why Haskins is better for the program. He is cordial with parents but keep them at a distance as to not let idiots like this make crap up. Oh no, he expects his better to work hard and give effort, lets get the pitchforks.(thats called sarcasism, just so there's no rumors of a possible linching)

Those coaches are no longer in the program. why are we talking about them. Are any of those kids playing varsity this year? Varsity seems to be pitching heavy and that can carry a team a far way.

He wanted a teaching position they couldn't offer him. If you look up the daily harold(I don't know the link, I googled Haskins leaves St Charles East) their AD had nothing but good things to say about him. That is propably not the answer some people may want, being that Romeoville loves a controversy and to crap on people, but he coached there and didn't teach there or in the district and now he is. So my question is, what crap do you want to hear or want people to create? Just saying, the 'real' in your comment makes it sound like your looking to witch hunt.

Why don't you just say my kid told me or I heard. "i heard through the vine" makes you sound like a snob or as if you're part of a secret society. There are 14 freshmen trying out and the one kid's glove broke. It was already stated that there is a small group of freshmen so your point is old. by the way, a handful would be considered 5. if they aren't that good, then why do they need more? so the coaches have to find playing time for even more crappy players. then you'd have more parents piss and moan that their subpar kid doesn't get the playing time they deserve. and then it'll be the coaches fault and then a new coach will come and then the same thing will happen and it'll be his fault. and eventually the meak shall inherit the earth. and then people will complain about that. "How bout that Marla Hootch...What a hitter"

I personally like the way Haskins has taken over the baseball teams. There is no more "groomed" positions. If you play a position, you are replaced if you are making errors. I think the ones who are complaining are the ones who think their kid should be in certain positions and are not playing there. When a parent talks bad about the coach what are they really teaching their kids? Why do parents feel they have the right to say anything to the coach, let the kids do their job and it will be seen. Parents that try to interfere in where their child is playing or what batting order they are in is only embarrassing their child. This is not daddy ball so let the kids enjoy the season with pride and no complaining from their parents. Win or loss, it is the kid's game! Be supportive!

I would rather puke. From what I hear/seen the Romeoville kids at JCA are bench warmers if they even make it. There's a reason why JCA coach would talk to the RHS players when at Fuel. Providence will once again be the best team in the surrounding area
