Traveling Thru the State of Georgia on 11/03/2015 I was pulled over by the Sheriff's Dept. for Mcintosh County! I had been behind a GM Yukon for almost two hrs,and he was in front of me when We both passed Sheriff's Deputy sitting on side of road with his radar unit and checking for speeders,we both passed at about 75mph and he pulled out behind us both and put on the lights and singled me out for the traffic stop ! He ask for my drivers license and then told me he had recorded my speed at 85 mph ? I told him I had been following the car in front of me for almost two hours and if I was going 85 mph so was the car in front of me and why didn't he stop both of us? I told him I don't drive 85mph and haven't had a speeding ticket in over 20 years Or more ? I am 74 years old and retired in Florida and my car has Florida Tags ! I did not know of the SUPER SPEEDER
Law in Georgia until I got home and went on-line to check the speed laws of Georgia and to find an Attorney ! Isn't it funny that when I went on line there are many many posts detailing the same story as mine and everyone is speeding at 85mph ? Not 83,Not79,Not 86,BUT all are doing 85mph . It's illegal ,it's corrupt, it's super expensive, and it's nothing more than a money pit and stealing from out of State Drivers ! I am surprised the Deputy that is supposed to uphold the law is the one breaking the law ?

Well - let me add my story -- I was pulled over yesterday and given a ticket from traveling 79 mph in a 60 mph "construction zone" on US 95 in Darien, GA. I travel this highway four times a week. The construction zone consists of a few orange barrels for about a mile stretch of road. It has been present for a least a year. It have been a boom to Mcintosh County as they constantly write tickets because no one, repeat no one, slows down. I was simply traveling in the left lane with the flow of traffic. When the officer hit is lights I assumed he was chasing some real criminal. When I moved over to let him pass I was shocked when he followed me. That said, the officer was polite and almost apologetic when writing me a ticket.

I am considering showing up in court to fight the ticket based on this article:

Good luck!

McIntosh County and Darien Police Department think they are swat commanders. They dress like they are in the Army ready to attack. They make about $13.00 per hour but they have a badge and a gun. It takes a whole 13 weeks of training to be a cop in McIntosh County. Then they really get the big head. Half of them have ged's and did not even graduate high school. Go to court and half of the court room is kin.

I attended Court in Darien GA recently. First, you are stopped, no purse and no cell phones. Okay. Second you must wait for the court room to open and are standing in line until you are given the go ahead. Third, you enter the court room and are given a specific place to sit, in which we were moved several times from this women who made it very clear she was also claustrophobic and was a school teacher, not in so many words, she was saying too a person attending court, too bad, deal with it. After placement, the - so - called - pubic pretender sits with her flip flops and unprofessional attire, and proceeds to view her 70 pages of cases, as the other 5, who ever they were, sit as well, along with another person...who cares. This courtroom has no less than 75 persons attending. The judge arrives and we all stand? She proceeds to brief you on protocol regarding your charges. My charge was suspension and doing 89 miles in a 70. I was number 15 among the 70 pages the judge and her croonies possessed. This looked to be a very long day. Note: some attending court, have been sitting in the Courts parking lot since 4 am coming from a distance. Whom, by the way, were all complaining about the wrongfully, unlawfully, goings on with this County. After the judge is through with her speech, she excuses herself from her throne, and proceed to tell us, I will take a short brake and return in 1 hour. WHAT? Then all the attorneys, there were 4 sitting with the pubic pretender, then, proceed to call individuals who filled out a form for an attorney regarding a trial or such, and the indiviuals who pleaded when the Jugde called their name.
I proceeded with my suspension, which turned out to be a mistake, duh, by the DDS, and was given a paper proving their error, that charge was dismissed. Then, the speeding, which I photosnapped the cruise control, after I was pulled over. Note: the car was still running, which was clearly obvious in the photo. The Deputy, Jeremiah something, stated he clocked me at 89, when my cruise clearly stated 72mph.
WE all looked at each other, and knew this person wearing a badge, who claims to protect and serve, was just looking for a buck before going off duty, meanwhile, tarnishing the responibility and credibilty of the badge he possesses. I decided, I would not go to trial, so I may leave this highly negative, disturbing, corrupted facility of liars and theives, and make a small donation to their inability to create a functioning economic society. This continuously happen daily, until someone decides to step in and stop this corrupted County. A joke and a mockery of the Legal system to it's fullest!!!! Final, there were court individuals who possessed a cell phone, playing solitare!!!!

Speed trap. It's illegal for them to do this and take advantage of law abiding citizens. Every officer needs to be fired and they need to clean house. I just payed one of their weeks salary because they lie about how fast your going. Boycott mcintosh county.

I can only agree with everyone in these posts. I was stuck behind a big truck and when I tried to pass him on the left I did not see the officer Chris Mitchell Badge # 1219 sitting there. But when my radar detector went off I looked down and saw my needle sitting on the right side of the 80. At most I was going 81 not 84 as he said. My reflexes are not that bad. To make matters worse I find out that I am in a construction zone. Now call me crazy but if no one is working on a Friday what is the purpose of having a construction zone on a hwy. That's border line entrapment and price gouging. Also I find it very convenient that the cost jumps from $215 dollars when you drive 19 to 23 miles over and $705 when you are 24 miles and above over. No wonder the officer put down I was going 24 miles over. The other thing I noticed is how fast he completed my ticket. Just under 5 minutes. Must be a record. And I thought they were supposed to check for my registration and Insurance. Guess they don't cars about that as long as they get back out there and write more tickets. It's either a competition or someone is pushing them to it.
Anyway if there is a lawyer out there that could take the County into a class action lawsuit for entrapment and price gouging in a construction zone when there are no workers present I would be happy to volunteer a year of computer services for free to their firm. I think all construction zones should post signs only during times of work not for months at a time.

Similar experience , 2 ladies mid 50's on ladies retreat weekend , with snack bag, pillows, and garmet bag visible in back seat- ridiculous told we were going 88 (though we were not unless everyone else was). Told you are a super speeder going 85 mph ( we had fl tags), adding injury to insult they do not have to prove anything. $280 ticket cost $500 to avoid points. My advice is to use cruise control in GA.

I got a speeding ticket there also! Those orange construction cones have been there forever! I got a 79 in a 60 ticket! It was 7AM and there were no workers or trucks. The officer was sitting right at the end of the zone! Has anyone fought it with a lawyer?

__________

So good to see this! I got popped in the SAME WEEK- first week of OCT/16-going EXACT mph (79) in "construction zone"(60) that was not clearly marked-to say the least-(exit #49). Lemme guess, cop was sitting in an SUV between two cones at start of const. zone? This is a racket-pure and simple. Reply back w/an email or some way to contact you, and I will be in touch. I've also read that several other folks got hit w/same fines that month (and the theft continues to this day apprently). The more we band together, the more power we'll have. I plan to fight it- I hope you do too!

The interstates in this country were designed to travel long distances with fixed speed limits. Almost all police will give you 10 mph due to technical reasons.

Over time the local yokels figured out they could scam the system with "construction Zones", as in Darien.
The 70 to 60 drop in speed in Darien occurs instantly, with one sign warning.
When you are in the lesft lane, and passing a truck you will not see the sign.
I have traveled that road for about 10 years, and it is now a permanent fixture. There hasn't been any construction for years.
It is a rip off plain and simple.
I was picked off following another car, and we are both going the same speed.
It is all $$$$$

Holy crap, same 79 in a 60 from Officer Chris Mitchell badge 1219. I was not going 79 or even there close to it. It was 6am on a Thursday. I might have passed one orange cone, and that's all they need to say it's A construction zone. This is some crap here
