My mom lives on St. Simons. Her house is paid for. Her taxes keep rising, but not at an unhealthy rate. From experience, I have seen small communities like St. Simons Island incorporate and taxes sky rocketed. My mom can't afford that. Maybe some of the people on Sea Island can, but I know my mom is not the only one on St. Simons living on less than what most could. She has 2 teenage boys at home. Those of you with children will understand what that means. When you incorporate, you are responsible for all kinds of expenses that was once part of the county and is now all up to the incorporated area. Few I know that live on St. Simons Island could afford what that means. Don't think about God or Patriotism. God says help yourself and he will help you. Patriotism gives you a safer place to live as a country on whole. Think of your children and grandchildren and how you are going to live when you get old and can't afford to pay out like you are now because your income has dropped. Drastically. Can you afford to pay for a new police dept. and all the money that intails? Can you afford to pay the fire dept.? Can you afford a water treatment plant or any of the other ammenities that a new community needs? Think about all these and pull out your wallet and really think about it again. I know as a mother of 5, I cannot afford these type of things. I know I don't live there on St. Simons, but my mom does and so does my brothers. That gives me the right to say these things to you. If it weren't for that I wouldn't care. But I do. God gave you a brain to use and Uncle Sam hits your pocket book more than you do. So can you afford for something else to hold out a hand and say,"Give me" ? I can't, my mom can't and I don't know too many people that can either.

I live on Saint Simons Island in the middle class neighborhood of Glynn Haven. Many of us middle class working folks believe incorporating Saint Simons and Sea Island is just a way to push lower income people off of the island. By taxing us out of existence, wealthy people and the Sea Island Corporation could acquire every single inch of land on the island. Then they could build condos, resorts and more multi-million dollar homes. Saint Simons and Sea Island would then be truly exclusive and the elite wouldn't have to drive by homes where people mow their own yards and do their own gardening and drive lowly Chevy and Ford cars. We expect politicans to fall right in line and support incorporation -- money talks and money buys.

I am for Home Rule, if politicians who live in Saint Simons can be voted out as well as in.You are stuck with Brunswick Politicians becouse you can not vote them out, only Brunswick folk can.You do not get the fundamental right to vote.I am a working class person but would like to have a vioce (vote) or get a grass roots movement and support our own canidate.I do believe in term limits.
