Angela Carella: Police study: Stamford has enough cops

What you have here is the 'expected' response to the city cutting unlimited sick leave for officers.
A bank of sick days was assigned, with a maximum amount that could be accrued. After that it became a "use 'em or lose 'em deal".
Officers now routinely use their allocated sick time each year since there is no benefit to not using it.
Free days off, who wouldnt want them?
Look at the issue though, the city looked at TOTAL sick time and demanded the change. What they didnt look at was AVERAGE sick time per officer, a few really sick guys can drive numbers up, but you have to look at the whole picture to get a real feel for what is going on.
The grapevine is saying that the city wants to put the firefighters under the same deal, great, another union with more free days off, and who would blame them? 15 sick days per year to be used as opposed to the current AVERAGE of less than 6 per year per firefighter.
The alleged city mangers/negotiators need to look more deeply into these issues when spending my tax dollars.

There are two many cops , many are bored and piggyback on the other officers calls, no pun intended.
