You missed "Alabama law requires that a jury still hear their cases." If the judge just sentenced him it would be overturned and he could walk.

I didnt miss anything. Im just wondering why?
Seems like a waste of time an money to hear a case an the person ADMITS GUILT.Plus why put a family threw a murder trial if you dont have to.Accept the plea an lock the up saves time an money,this law needs to be changed

I agree with part of what you said, but it is the current law and that is why. Anyone in Alabama who does that must have a jury hear the case UNTL and UNLESS a change in the law is enacted. At least that is the way I read the statuteson the sentencing.(Basically only capital cases)
