Baldwin County's Political Disgraces

Last night I sat watching my child perform in his schools Christmas program. It went very well. The band sounded like the've played for years and the choir sounded like they have practiced much longer than they actually had. I was mildly distraught, however, when after the program, many of the parents of the children who just played, huddled up their kids and left, totally unsupportive of the rest of the children, their parents, and their teachers. They only wanted to hear their boy play the drums or their girl play the flute and leave for more important matters.
I wondered, "How do we as parents become so callous. Why do we not care about the needs of others? Why, even in our little community of Daphne, are there so many here that are nonsupportive of the little things, or just people in general?"
Before last nights event, as I mingled with the teachers and parents, the talk was about certain legislaturers and how they turned their backs on us,"we the people." Behind closed doors, and without a vote from it's people, the citizens of Baldwin County and Alabama have been duped by sneaky and slippery politicians, once more. The culprits: Tripp Pitman, Randy Davis, Bob Riley, Bradley Byrne amoungst others.
With only a meer two weeks left in office Bob Riley is up to his antics again. It isn't enough that the House and Senate have a Republican majority, it's the behind closed door kickbacks and hand outs that are going to make the rich and the rest of us poor. Pitman and Davis, in spite of hundreds, maybe thousands of calls from the people who elected him, are close to passing SB2 which will have serious implications affecting the jobs of the teachers who teach you children and police officers and fire fighters who serve to protect you and your family. It will also weaken any other union that people have given their blood, sweat and their lives for over 150 years. I'd love to have the AT&T phone records to see how much Randy Davis schmoozed in financials from Riley.$25,000?$50,000?

Every story has to begin somewhere. This has been brewing for years but started coming to light in 2009. In 2009, Baldwin County public schools were facing a debt that, in three years, would grow to $31 million due to the county losing funding from a federal stimulus program. With no where else to look, and looking to Byrne for support, Byrne opposed a one cent tax plan to help teachers and the county's public school's support staff. This is extremely significant because not only is Byrne one of Baldwin County's most prominent politicians, he was also a former member of the Alabama State Board of Education. Many believe this was an effort to not be supportive of the Alabama Education Association (AEA).

The AEA takes about $500 per year form teachers to belong to the union for protection. The AEA has brain washed a lot of teachers that their jobs are in danger if they do not belong to the union. If a school employee is dismissed the AEA appoints them a lawyer and they sit for up to two years drawing their pay check and benefits and waiting for a hearing. This is just beyond belief that anyone would think this is right. We have seen convicted criminals sit in prision and get a paycheck. AEA continues to use union dues held form school employees paycheck and use it to enfluence politics in Alabama. This is a game at a level so high the majority of school employees are just plain left out. There should be a community review board and any school employee that is dismissed should have to come before this board and present their case, same with the school board. This could all be handled at the local level and cost effective. By not paying union dues the teachers get a $500 a year raise.
Some time simple is so hard to see.
