Breed specific law impacts Danville "...

Any breed of dog has the potential to become agressive. It is the responsibility of the owner to keep their dog under control. I am a dog lover, but there is no way I would have a pit bull as a pet nor do I want to live next door to someone who does.

I don't have any problem as long as the dog is restrained and cannot get loose. However I do have a major problem if one is loose as has been the case in my neighborhood on several occasions. I have had to call 911 4 times over pits trying to attack runners or pedestrians on my street and once because one was attacking my little dog, which was on a tie out in my yard. 4 times 3 different pits. I have one neighbor that owns several and I have never seen them loose. They are tied and in a fenced in backyard. I don't give a rats ass if your dog is sweet. I do not want it around me or my kids. Keep em up or get rid of them.

Oh btw the pit that was attacking my dog was dragging its tie out. It was the same type small one I have for my 10 lb dog.

My pit chased off an intruder last nite, and when I called the police and told them that someone had tried to break in, and my pit took care of business, the dispatcher said " Good, Maybe next time your dog will get ahold of them". Hopefully next time he will get ahold of one of these pillheads.

The law prohibiting Pit Bull or Pit Bull Mixed breeds in Danville is probably meant to prevent "Make-shift" dog fighting rings from happening in our town and to force thugs who train "Pit Bull warriors" to move on to a different town. It really isn't the dogs' fault. The dogs are the real victims here. Pit bulls are very loyal to their owners. They are just trying to be obedient. If a Pit Bull owner encourages and rewards agression, then the Pit Bull will follow suit for the sake of loyal obedience. I know there are good people out there who are responsible Pit Bull owners, Unfortunately, this is a case, like many others in our society, where a "few bad apples ruined the bunch."

I think that this law wouldn't make [everyone] happy but it would be wise for the majority of that people. We always have to be on the look out for what is in the best interest for the majority of the people. so I think that this law would be what the majority of Danville folks would want.

This is such bullsh!t. Pitbulls like any other dogs are not aggressive bu nature, its all in how they are raised. What happened to the 90's when Dobermans and Rottweilers were the dogs to fear. Ive seen more aggressive Chihuahuas, German Shepards, and Kitas. The act of a dog is all how its been raised. No city should be allowed to ban a certain breed. People are just stupid and closed minded.
Bull what do you have your head on backwards Pit's need to become classified dangerous .

It's not the dogs that cause the law to be effected. It IS the owners. Like it or not, you pit people have got to recognize that a significant portion of pit owners fight the dogs, or see them as status symbols of just how "bad" they are. Gangs are a part of that. There's no way to predict WHO is a bad owner, but you can reasonably identify the fact that a large number of the owners of Pits own them for the inherent combat ability and nature of the animal. Those owners then enhance that through their treatment of the dog. We can't identify and ban the idiots, criminals, gang bangers, and dopers, but we can identify the fact that those idiots like the Pit Bull for reasons that have NOTHING to do with affection.
Ban them, as far as I'm concerned. I doubt we'll see crips and bloods trying to train up poodles for the fights.

Right now we have so much more going on, than to have to worry about a few pitbulls here and there. There is already a Stern dog ordinance in place, that I seriously don't think it needs updating.

Sounds better than living off the tax payers for the rest of his life.(Which he probably already is; most pit owners do.)

I used to raise pit bull dogs,if you have a pit bull from a good blood line,no inbreeding from 3rd generation and beyond, more then likely you will have a smart dog,if you want pet or house dog they will be easy to train and are excellent at the commands you give them. Now if you like a game dog the same thing applies and if you know their fighting blood line, helps a little bit if they have cur or not.My recommadation look at the blood line, someone who has papers.Stay away from close inbred dogs, and if you get a license at the court house or go to the vet, sign them in as staffordshire terriors. Also remember that pit bulls are very protective dogs by nature. The best pet I ever had was a pit bull.

I have had registered Dobies, beagles, jack russells,, etc etc.....now I raise Colby bloodline American Pitbull Terriers, by far the best breed of dog on the planet. Its all about the bloodline and no inbreeding, also in the way they are raised. A.D.B.T.'s are not for everyone, you must be very well versed in dog behavior and most importantly.....A RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER AND ADULT. You drive a Chevy, I drive a ford, to each their own. As for the comment above about pit owners are all on welfare...get a life, simple as that. I own a farm, house, cars.....plus work 40+ hours at a factory in danville....I NEED NO ONES ASSISTANCE, ESPECIALLY OUR SOCIALIST GOVERNMENTS.

Its not in just how they are raised. Look it up. Most are imbread which makes them more aggressive. A pure bread is actually very rare. And it's also in the way they attack. And that is a part of who they are. There isnt any changing that. Doesn't matter how they were raised. They go for the next. It's their instinct. They also lock their jaws and "shake" their victims, which is why they have the highest fatality attacks. If you have been watching the news a lady's "very friendly" and " well raised" pit attacked her neighbors son and ripped his freaking arm off at the shoulder. The pit was going for the little boys neck and he raised his arm up to shield himself. I personally think this is a great law. If you are going to own these types of dogs you should live in the country where they don't have access to other peoples children. If you chose to have the dog around your kids fine, and when it rips your kids arm off then you can live with that.
I have two American pitbull terriers and i have raised them with my 4 kids and they would rip your arm off if you came near my kids, they are full blooded with papers, they are very protective if they suspect danger yes they will react. and it is in the way you raise them i dont care what anyone says. you give an idiot a loaded gun you will have trouble. but the breed should not be banned. most of these attacks you see on tv are the half breed pit mix news channels will confuse a beagle and shitzu mix for a pit mix anyday, i agree ppl should keep better track of there dogs so they dont bite anyone but shouldnt parents keep better track of their kids as well? where was the parents when the YOUNG child was bit obviously not wathing their child. im not gonna say all pits are good but not all are bad. if i go to town and call a black person the N word or refuse to wait on a mexican thats discriminative so why should they treat dogs any different? Dogs can serve as police and be used for therapy. the first police dog i believe was an American pitbull. My female is a licensed therapy dog after my step son was abused he wouldnt talk to anyone but my American Pitbull. And just so you know the locking jaw mith isnt real. They do have very strong jaws due to an extra muscle but by all means does that not mean they lock lmao anyways point being not all pitbulls are bad and they shouldnt ban all for the OWNERS mistakes.

Beagle's are breed to Hunt rabbits...
Coondogs are Breed to hunt racoons
Saint Bearnarda are breed as rescue dogs

List goes on an on you PAY MORE for the better breed cause it sticks int he bloodline.

Pittbulls are breed as attack and kill fighting dogs.
It is in there breed to do harm...They cant even help it anymore.
They do not belong in city limits period

For the posters who think it is unlikely that a breed specific ordinance will be implemented, I'm not sure why you would think this way. Do you not realize that many cities around the country have already done this? Even some insurance companies won't issue homeowner's insurance if there are certain breeds on the premises. My own insurance company won't insure to homeowner's who have a APBT or Rotti. I completely agree with the "its the owner not the dog" philosophy, but unfortunately there have been way too many irresponsible pit bull owners over the last several decades. If this ordinance passes, all of the responsible owners will suffer due to the reckless behavior of others.
