Eighth-grade graduation could vanish

Yeah because someone might not graduate from high school so let's give them an 8th grade graduaation. I think this was covered on the other thread.

What are you talking about Laurie? Just because they might do away with the eighth graduation ceremony doesn't mean that your son or any of the others won't get to go to high school!!! LOLOLOLOL

I don't know of any schools except parochial K-8 that still has 8th grade graduation. i didn't and my kids didn't have it.

No your nephew dropped out because he's a quitter. That's why people don't finish school. No other reason. And I don't agree with having an eighth grade graduation just because someone might not finish school. How ridiculous. And you say you work with kids?

Other people are also saying the opposite.

If an 8th grade graduation is the only graduation ceremony you anticipate your child to achieve this discussion is the least of your problems.

Oh yes, I'm SURE your post was perfectly delightful, insightful, pleasant and a testimony for Christian living.

Once again...I do not think an 8th grade graduation is important...all you are doing is going from one building to another. People are not going to hire you for work because you have an 8th grade diploma, they are going to hire you because you have at least a high school diploma. Think of it this way, if they do away with the cost of an 8th grade graduation, then maybe they might have a bit more money for salaries...now, wjhat do you want more, more money to live on, or a graduation ceremony that does not mean squat? |
|
There are several schools that already don't have 8th grade graduation. I was thankful that I didn't have to put out the money for a graduation party. None of my 3 kids had a 8th grade graduation and they never thought anything about it.

I think Laurie82 or DHSGRAD82 is really sincere in her attempts to get her meaning across. However, in that attempt she does not realize that she is treading on others thoughts and ideas and she takes each post as a critical assessment of her character so lashes out and posts things that are really contrary to her own beliefs as a Christian. Now, if we all back away from our own thoughts and let us add up what we have posted it is simply this. DHSGRAD82 thinks there should be graduation at every level that a student achieves. Others disagree. Thus, it seems that should end the discussion.Oh, by the way I think Laurie 82 missed my attempts to reconcile our differences. How about it Laurie are you ready for a truce?

Laurie, you really should consider going back to the 8th grade for a do-over. It's obvious you fell through the cracks the first time. Heck, you might even get some 8th grade grad money to repair that roof.

Other then private schools where the PARENTS are paying everything from salaries to building fees I don't believe in a GRADUATION for 8th grade or any milestone other than High School Graduation. It does not make sense to spend the money just because a child might decide not to continue on and it will be their only chance...if they really want to put on a cap and gown they can try harder, look for help whatever they need to make it to their high school graduation.
Middle School/Jr. High is not something you graduate from...you move onwards and upwards into High School. A ceremony during school hours to honor their achievements..Yes that I can see but to put so much into an event that has no real meaning...I don't get it. |

DHS Grad its not you that makes me laugh. I might scratch my head on some of your posts, but its Sammy that makes me laugh. A truce? again?
I do feel sorry for Tuck. |

A truce. What? Is this a hundred times now and it will last what 5 minutes. I don't know why they even bother with you

No to keep the argument up...is any familiar with empirical data on the topic? Does research lean to anyone side?

Why is it important? Is it because you will never get beyond eighth grade?

It has to be stopped, until they can find a way to control the audience

It is unnecessary to "force" the cost of a formal 8th grade graduation on parents. However, any opportunity to gather family and friends for reaching any of lifes milestones is fun an rewarding for all!
Why not grill out, invite grampa, gramma and the relatives and celebrate this transitional phase of life/school? I think this family time is more about acknowleging the maturation expected of a high school student. Any reason to unite your family for a happy occassion is a good one! |

we deserve the right to graduate |
