The citation given to the bar owners probably stated: "Acting silly without the required license."
Actually since lawyers have far and away the highest rates of alcoholism and drug abuse of any major profession, and police officers are a serious contender for number two among all majro professions in alcoholism, and in fact when in bars after work both lawyers and police officers frequently get so drunk they can barely stand up, for entertainment in taverns they should have relay races between teams composed of drunken lawyers and drunken police officers.
And if one of the teams was composed of drunken lawyers from the DA's office, then I am absolutely sure no law enforcement agency would dare come in and arrest any patrons who placed monetery bets on which team of drunks they expected to win.
You should set up the local bar league! Screw volleyball and darts!
I wonder how long before PETA becomes involved...

<Authorities say several mice were found in cages and bets were described as over any legal limit.>

So what's the legal limit for bets on an Iowa mouse race? If they'd kept the betting to a maximum of 25 cents, would the undercover sheriff's deputies have walked away in frustration?

I was in Iowa yesterday for a meeting with a client and when I was driving back to the Des Moines airport I saw about a thousand mice standing on the side of the road with a sign reading:

"No justice, no peace!"

Do you think the mice are serious and they are going to riot?

They should let the mice stay since they were probably the best behaved creatures in the bar.

I doubt they got drunk, they probabiy did not pick fights with the bartender or other paying customers, almost certainly none of them picked up a pool cue and hit another resident of the bar over the head, and I am one hundred percent none of them demanded the bartender keep on serving them drinks now and on the promise they would settle up in a few days when they got their paychecks, or acting beligerent when the bartender refused to serve them more drinks when they still had not paid for their previous drink.

So as long as the tavern paid the mice the required minimum wage, also time and a half over forty hours, a shift differential if they had to race during the afternoon or midnight shift, and also allowed the mice free access to any unions interested in getting the mice to take a vote on beconing organized, wouldn't the whole thing be legal?

The only thing is the waitresses and cashier might not like the mice being present, since I have never heard of a mouse leaving a tip or for that matter even paying for its meal.

When young we had fun catching flys and throwing them in spider webs watching the spider take them.

Now older every time catch a mouse in the winter look for a hawk and then turn the mouse loose in a snow covered field and watch the hawk swoop down and take the mouse.

Do you suppose the FBI will be catching me?
