kudos to dcfs for no longer placing kids at this "snake pit"; HOWEVER, dcfs is still responsible for investigating reports of abuse or neglect involving children at riveredge. dcfs mandated report training should be a requirement for hospital staff who should be assured of confidentially. Police should NEVER be refused entry: this is a clear obstruction of justice and a red flag of the life threatening environment at riveredge. Severe financial fines can be levied by the Dept. of Public Health. Sadly, the lay-off of 36 dcfs investigators at their Maywood office doesn't help the situation. My recommendation is that clinical managers from dcfs and public health apply for staff positions at riveredge so that criminal charges can be brought as appropriate. Visiting a facility by appointment only is unacceptable and a clear dereliction of duty. Thankfully, journalism has brought the riveredge atrocities to the public. It's encouraging that at least the ethics of one profession are still intact.
