I started the whole statement by saying that I did agree that it was wonderful that they're doing something with the castle. I've been to it many times and would love to see it rebuilt. You're right in all that you've pointed out Fred.
It just boggles my mind that the government can come up with all of these grants for millions of dollars and yet the funding for programs like WIC is so short that they can't "help" a single mother making $14.00/hour because they see that as a decent income. You do the math - house payment, car, insurance, utilities, food, formula, diapers.$14.00/hour doesn't put a dent in it. I'm very fortunate to have a strong support system (an awesome family) because after all of that, my kids would walk around in rags because I certainly couldn't afford to buy them the clothes that they have!
So I guess my point is that the government seems, in my eyes anyway, to have it's priorities out of order. While I agree that it's GREAT to see this building being resurrected...it's not going to help people like myself and my children to live comfortably. I just think it's a kick in the butt to hear "sorry, you aren't eligible for help" because I have a job and make more than minimum wage and have managed to purchase a home for myself and my children - then read years later that they've come up with millions for a project such as this. From what I hear, the programs for "help" have become even more stringent. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one who feels this way.
If you cant make ends meet with a 14.00 dollar an hour job then you are doin something wrong or only working part time. I work a 14.35 an hour job at 40 hours a week staight. support a family of 5 pay 2 car payments own my home and pay my bills. not to mention Im the sole provider. Im a little curious as to what you consider priority to spend you money on.

I've always been curious about the history of that castle. I've been told that at one time it used to be a Commune, place for the insane. It's in pretty sad shape right now. But, I would much rather see it as a Hotel offering meals. That place is HUGE!!!!!

My daughter has a job where she makes 1200 a MONTH an can't survive on that!!! She has a 2007 Dodge Durango that's the only thing she's paying on & those payments are @$340/mo. so, what does she spend all her money? She has three little boys that she pays NO SUPPORT on!!!! I think the castle would bring jobs to the county rather than sending us away.

Bernarr Macfadden was quite the Guy in his day, The building was once a sanitarium later bought by Macfadden and turned into a Health Spa.
I remember seeing it many times while growing up and visiting Family in Dansville. Many stories about the place and it's history I have heard! Most forgotten now, but if this Building were in many other Municipalities, it might have been considered a Landmark! I would hope Dansville gets it registered on the Historical Places registry, That and the Home of Clara Barton if the house still exists should be on it..
AMEN!!

I am a mother of two children a one year old and a three year old. I work 40 hours a week, making 9.00 an hour and I still make ends meet without the help of their father or handouts, and you don't hear me complaining about what is owed to me or that I am entitled to help from programs. YOU KNOW WHAT? The gov. didn't force me into having my kids nor did anyone else it was my choice by having sex, why should other people pay for my choices. If you don't like paying in then get a job with cash under the table.

Kookoo you need to get an education and learn proper English, that hurt my eye's just to look at it let alone read it. For one you just admitted that you know notthing about the castle, the owner or the historical value of the castle. Here's an idea, do some research, KNOW AND UNDERSTAND what you are talking about and then come back and post an educated opinion instead of sounding like you are an uneducated 5 year old throwing a tantrum.

Here's a idea! If you can't afford to buy your own babies formula and you will need Wic the don't freaking get pregnant and have a kid!!!! I'm tired of my taxes going to support all these kids that these parents can't afford. If you can't afford them don't have them. Problem Solved it's called Birth Control!!!!
