Kind of curious, why on Saturday did the Dansville Cheerleaders have a police/firetruck escort into the Village? I understand that they won at RIT; but what entitles them to receive this? Our swim team won sectionals and I don't see the police or firetrucks lining up to escort them home. As a taxpayer I was not pleased by this and will be taking this to the next Village Board meeting and the mayor. If your going to do it for one you need to do it for all. Personally I think our tax dollars have better things to go towards.

I think it is a nice gesture for the kids but if you do for one do for all. The swim team shouldn't have to ask for one. Like I said I will be taking this to board

A simple request was made by the cheer coaches to one person who recruited the other 2. I personally have thanked all 3 drivers who all replied they were happy to oblige and would/will do for any of the teams when they win a large championship like the Section V title, all they have to do is ASK. It is sad that you would rather take this issue to the board to distinguish the efforts of our community to celebrate the accomplishments of our students rather than encourage other coaches to provide the same type of ackowledgement in the future! And as for our tax dollars I don't think a drive up Main Street is a serious deficit. Not to mention it was again a very positive show of support that I for one am happy to pay for through my taxes. There's a lot of other wasteful spending that shouldn't happen, but for GOD's sake this was a wonderful experience for the team!

This is a tradition available for any team that wins a Section V Title. It is a well deserved celebration for the student athletes. I have heard the celebrations and I am proud of our athletes and community!!! If the coaches don't ask for the escort, it doesn't happen. You will look like a fool at the board meeting! I'll bet you have never even attended a board meeting!

@ Curious- It's wonderful you recognize the abilities of our public employees and volunteers, but I'm not quite sure they all have ESP and would have any way of knowing that a Mustang team had won at sectionals, let alone know when they would be arriving in the village in order to provide such an escort! How do you expect such a service to happen if someone doesn't step up to ask for it?

Seriously, taking this to the board? Wow I think I can think of a few other things to fill the boards time with besides this. I think I would be upset as a taxpayer with you wasting the time of the board on this. It was a well deserved gesture. If other coaches ask they can also receive this. The coach would need to call and ask...like another post said how would it be known that they won unless someone has ESP! The cheerleaders have had an outstanding season. I know the other teams have worked hard also we have some great althletes in Dansville and I think they deserve to be recognized. It was great.@just me... I don't think that any of these accomplishments get old no matter what team/coaches it is. With all the negative going on around us please don't take this and make it into a negative. Sure wish this was the only thing I had to worry about, a parade for the cheerleaders. They deserved it along with the coaches who did receive Coach of the Year for Section V. My hats off to you and keep doing what you are doing! I take it neither one of you have ever been athletes or coaches!

I have been to plenty of board meetings, and if the board chooses to do nothing about it then fine but I am choosing to take it to them and that is my right as a tax payer. Each of us have our own opinions, and if you read my posts I never said I was against this gesture. What I said is that if it is going to be done for one it should be done for all. Here is another point, at the previous board meetings I have been to I have heard how as a village we are struggling; talks of cutting police and so forth. How do you think the board would feel knowing that instead of patrolling the area they are escorting buses in? This was not a pre-planned event, so obviously the on-duty officer was the one who did it. If I am correct don't we have a homecoming parade in October? On another note, don't the cheerleaders get enough recognition when they trash the front of the school after their win?
LOL

I don't know what you are referring to as trashing the school, but when the cheer team returned from sectionals there was already toilet paper all over the parking area. The cheerleaders had absolutely nothing to do with that!

On The front of the school there was a sign covering the "informational" school sign; is this not enough recognition for them? They need to ask for a police escort?

I am fully aware that a few of these responses come from cheer parents and I am sorry if you don't like my comments but this is how I feel and I know for a fact I am not the only one.

Actually the swimming team , who just won sectionals trashed both the front and the inside of the school , not the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders at dansville might have a bad rep and may not be your favorite team sport but they had an undefeated season this year and deserved some recognition. Every sport has its traditions and an escorted arrival after winning sectionals happens to be dansvilles cheerleader's tradition. Also I know for a fact two of the girls on the team have fathers who are police officers and an escort through the town was probably easy to achieve. Just thought I'd she'd some truth onto this :)

@curious....of course it is you right to take this to the board however it sounds like you may need to get your facts straight. Once again this can be done for all if the coaches ask!

I never said one false statement, do shedding the truth? As for having fathers on the police station, that is my point exactly! This is why I will be going to the board.

Is this not a false statement? It was the swim team not the cheerleaders. Oh and for the record, I am not a cheer parent but someone that lives here and believes that any positive recognition for our students is great!

Did you not notice the sign on the opposite side that the swim team posted? I believe that is also a tradition that several teams have done in the past. I would not consider that as "trashing" the front of the school and if that's your opinion of "trash" I hope you have posted the same comment here in another forum about the swim team's "trashing" that same sign and distributing toilet paper throughout school grounds (as they have done multiple times upon returning from sectionals)!
