Tech high schools are trade schools. As such, the students will most likely enter a trade and not go directly to college. So why on earth would we want to merge the trade schools with the colleges? This will water down the technical high school system and provide minimal benefits. There must be something ($$) in it for the administrators though otherwise they would be fighting it left and right.

Well over 1/2 of tech school kids go to college, whether it's a specialty trade college or a CC or 4-yr school. The valedictorian and salutatorian of each class also get free tuition to UCONN

MOM KINGSBURY was one of the mothers protecting and shielding BOJKO even though bojko abused the older daughter...the mother was trying to KISS BUTT so the younger daughter would still be allowed to swim....

PATHETIC.

I don't know why it was a failure, but it was definitely a failure. I was taking classes at Tunxis at the time and they really hyped up the change from Connecticut Community Colleges to Connecticut Community-Technical Colleges. Major PR involved - newspaper ads, TV commercials, t-shirts, banners on campuses, new signs by the highway exits, key chains, etc. A year later, the concept was changed back and swept under the rug like it never happened. Very odd.

I suspect that you graduated more than a few years ago, as the culture in the technical high schools has changed a lot in the last few years. The emphasis has changed from trade first and academics second to a higher emphasis on academics than on the trades.

Thanks.

I have very little faith in the State being able to make a better go this time but, I think anything that will help educate the workforce beyond a degree in General Studies and other virtually worthless liberal arts degrees, is worth a try.

I just don't think they'll ever be able to work out the scheduling logistics. Unless the kids went to college the entire fall and stayed in their trade the entire spring, that could be feasible with trade instructors teaching juniors in the fall and seniors in the spring, with them attending the college the alternating semester.

The figure is only 25% for college. Specialty trade schools are not higher education.

Actually it is much higher for most schools. The strategic school profile lists the actual percentage for all tech schools at 46.1%, with some schools over 50%.

46.1% is the "% Pursuing Higher Education (Degree and Non-Degree Programs)."

Non-degree programs do include some of the certificate offerings at a CC. The actual numbers from many schools for students attending CC's or 4-yr schools is just under 40%, the rest will go to technical schools or specialty schools.

4 of the tech schools report over 60% of their graduates pursuing higher education. Even if you take out the technical colleges (not "higher education"), it's still a high proportion of students. I am still curious about how the logistics will work for the trades...
