A simple question to all those "socialized medicine" fear types.

A store cannot refuse to serve you based on the color of your skin.

But yet an insurance compnay can refuse to serve you based on your health history.

Which is more important. Being able to buy a slurpee in a convience store or being able to buy health insurance?

No it's not. That's your OPINION.

If 90% have insurance, that's a very high number so while you percevie a problem, I don't and neither do 90% of the rest of us.

I love that part about how the guy said he had a great system in Spain and how it worked fine for him when he was a student.

All that means is he didn't have to pay for it but reaped the benefits, gee no $hit it worked for him.

Move to Spain then you dope!

What a great idea! EVERY employee in a non-profit, even large hospitals, should be covered under the state employee's insurance plan which is way more generous than it should be. It would likely raise the premiums for state workers but there's no rationale for all the non-profits that contract with the state to have employee insurance that's inferior to that of the state employees who do the exact same jobs but just get their paycheck from the State of Ct.

In a state of 3 million... there are 300,000 people who are uninsured, many of those are children. Hmm... not sure what world you live in where 300,000 people is a small number.

The state has this all wrong. They offer a wonderful health insurance program to people who don't work and have 10 kids, but people who work two three jobs that don't offer health insurance get nothing.

Why don't we switch our priorities over and start offering health insurance to thos who deserve it. For everyone else get a job!

If you want free health care, move to Cuba. It has some of the best medical care in the world, and it's government sponsored. I bet you'll REALLY enjoy it down there!

Don't blame the insurance companies. The real problem is all the lawyers. Half or more of the cost of health insurance goes to malpractice and unneeded tests and procedures because doctors are so afraid of getting sued.

And with socialized healthcare, they'll then make it illegal to serve you your slurpee if your ID card shows you're a diabetic.

What would I get for $480 a year, a major medical with caps?
Maybe I should just get insurance that covers anything over $10,000 dollars with no caps. How much would that cost me?
No sir i think i mwill stick to fighting for HR676 a national single payer health care plan with no caps so that I do not lose my home if I get real sick. Unfortunately the insurance industry has gone to far and is losing the health care battle thanks to the greed of their CEO's.
Let us join the rest of industrialized world and get single payer. No bills, no forms that you don't need, single payer plan is what we need.

I have never seen so much crap as i have read in this forum!

What a great State this is.

Every day I pick up the paper and read about how there is somebody who is glombing of the public working for a non profit organization telling me how im obligated to pay so some person who has made a liftime of bad personal decisions health insurance.

Nobody seems to be able to tell me exactly why I should pay for it, just that I have an obligation to pay for it.

My wife and I wortked two jobs our whole working life. We put two kids through college, we don't live in a McMmansion, just a simple three bedroom ranchouse. We drive old cars and get along very well.

Somehow, because we lived a sane existance all our lives and didn't spend beyond out means, we are supposed to support the druggies, the alcoholics, the unwed mothers, the wed mothers with 9 kids and support all the college tuition for all the drunken college students in the State.

You want insurance, go get a job that has health benefits or accept the fact that somehow you have to buy insurance. Worried about your old age, buy some long term health insurance.

Give up your cigarettes, your big car, your cell phone, your cocktails, your Ipod, your meals out, your new clothes and the 100 dollar sneakers for your kid and live with in your means. Here is a hint: If your going to buy a nice outfit for your kid, measure the inseam and buy him a pair of pants he doesn't have to hang his ass out of to wear.

I dont need some do gooder who is worried about how his kid will aford insurance 20years from now to chip away at my savings. Raise your kid right, teach him to make good decisions, get him an education and good things will happen. What kind of jerk goes from town to town telling peoiple that we have to do something right now so the taxpaying community will be able to aford to pay for his kids insurance 20 years from now.

39% of the children born in Connecticut last year were born to unwed mothers. That should tell you where the problems are, and where they will be in the future. And why the sobsisters want you to pay for their insurance.

Connecticuts answer is Let them breed like rabbits and you pay the bill. There is something wrong with a system that feels no obligation to correct a behavioral problem that has grandmothers raising their children and the grandmothers are in their 30's and 40"s.

The problem with your single payer program is the face that, if you read the article and the posts here, nobody wants to pay. A better description of the plan people her want is the "other people payer program"

While casting about for health care systems to emulate, Canada's system isn't as represented. The reality is that Canada's Medicare is breaking.

HR676 is just another TAX. If we offer free insurance, then the problems will just get worse. Once the carrot is hung, more people (including more illegals) will move to Connecticut and work under-the-table jobs and will be taken car of by the state. Meanwhile, the people who bust their behinds WORKING will have the burden of paying. Rather than shifting the burden, I suggest letting the free market prevail.

Just as a friendly reminder, the definition of a free market is: A market in which prices of goods and services are arranged completely by the mutual consent of sellers and buyers. Once the Govít is involved it becomes a regulated market (AKA: TAX). Iím still scratching my head to figure out where insurance fits inÖ

Time to shut down the health insurance scam. They are leeches that skim money off our healthcare system, and the money they steal should be going directly towards healthcare.
YES, you are CORRECT Sir. For years, I have been telling people that if they think it through LOGICALLY, it IS the insurance companies who are driving up the cost of healthcare and driving DOWN the quality! If NOBODY had health insurance and it was required that only FAIR and REASONABLE fees be charged, the costs would come down considerably and the quality would go up. People just cannot get past the mentality that "You've GOT to have insurance!" If we all just paid FAIR charges only when we needed to see our doctors and we did not have to pay for everybody else on the planet it would be much more reasonable. The very poor and chronically ill would of course get public assistance. The Senior Pharmaceutical Insurance scam put into law a few years ago is just ANOTHER example of the Insurance companies bleeding the seniors dry and having all kinds of "clauses" which cause HEALTHY seniors to be paying out even MORE money than before for premiums and deductibles. Americans are being manipulated and royally screwed by the Insurance companies, no doubt about it!
