The Seminoles have invested so much money in the Hard Rock, who really thought they would just roll over and play dead for a few half hearted attempts at casinos?

Good old Jeb catered to the bible thumpers and Indians to make Floridas greatest opportunity to benefit tourism and state income near impossible ! The current gov. wants a complete sellout to the indians for a next to nothing cut of revenues !What a wasted opportunity to relieve the Florida tax burden on current residents !

Just bulldoze the whole D.A.M.N. city. They are so far behind the times for development its not funny. They allow the homeless to run rampent in the city and go dumpster diving behind Winn Dixie and will not do anything about it to protect the residents. They have a Code Enforcement department that is very selective of who they cite and go after.
I was told Jai Alai was a dead project last week and couldnt believe it, but here it is in print. I was also told that the condo tower east of Gulfstream road is one of our commissioners projects!

Dania Beach Government, take a good look at yourselves, no one wants to build here, no one wants to move here. You need to change that and change your ways!

giving the In dians exclusive gaming rights is a joke, the pay no taxes and their machines and poker room are horrendous.

However the parimutuals are not much better. Their machines stink and their take out in poker games is way to high.

Best bet is to play poker on the net.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY SAY THESE ARE VEGAS STYLE CASINOS BUT YOU WILL NOT FIND PENNY MACHINES ANYWHERE. THE MINIMUM BET IS WAY TO HIGH FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON LOOKING FOR A NIGHT OUT. HAVE BEEN TO HARD ROCK AND THE ISLES WHERE THE SECOND IS MORE FREINDLY BUT STILL TO EXPENSIVE.
YOU CAN FLY TO RENO AND VEGAS AND STAY FOR THE WEEKEND FOR WHAT YOU SPEND IN ONE NIGHT IN THESE PLACES. THEY ARE VERY NICE PLACES FOR WHAT THEY ARE BUT IT IS NOT JUST THE PENNY SLOTS ALL OF THEM ARE TO EXPENSIVE.

a couple quick fixes for jai alai to get more than 50 people at any performance would be the following:

a. turn the air conditioning on. yes a simple request. in various area of that place it is way way to hot.

b. the the judges that if they start following the rules they get fired or suspended

c. reward those who attend on a regular performance

d. get valet parking back

e. suspend players who are lazy

A friend who's daughter works at Hard Rock and he does business with them flew to Atlantic City to gamble one weekend and play Blackjack. The Borgado gave him a room since he called and told them he was coming. I know the bill for our dinner that night was $800 for about 12 people. We were in Philly on vacation and drove to AC to see them. Funny we all get together in AC when we all live within 5 miles of each other in Dania B.I.T.C.H.

What would you expect when our politicians saddled the pari-mutuels with a 50% tax and the Indians, in the same business have NO tax. No Regulations. Contribute nothing to the community. Their slot machines payout at 81% as opposed to the state mandated 92% at the broward casino's. How about a level playing field?

First of all:
1. The lawsuit is a desperate attempt for these bible thumpers. Why didn’t they press harder prior to 2 elections? The slot amendment passed TWO elections! One statewide and one local. It’s also impossible to validate these signatures now. People move, die and cannot be found. Let it go, we need the tax revenue. The taxes on an Oakland Park home with a $300,000 assessed value is $7,000! That is crazy. If casinos can offset some of our taxes…then let it be.

2. These ‘racinos’ rushed to open. They should have went to Vegas to see what works for the local casinos. People want more than just slot machines. If you build more of an entertainment complex (like Seminole Hard Rock), you’ll bring the people in. You’ll make money in other areas as well as slots. Movie theater, bowling, restaurants, shopping are some things that can help. Who is going to go out of there way to JUST play slots if you are a casual gambler? I know that people would, lets say…go to a movie and would probably drop some money in the slots.

3. These minimum bets at the 3 casinos are way too high. GulfStream is horrible. The lowest denomination is 5 cents. Come on. The Isle is 2 cents, but they don’t have many of those. Also, if you play all the ‘lines’ at 1 credit per line…that’s 50 cents.(25 lines on most machines). Mardi Gras is the best for the low roller. They do have some 1 cent machines, but not enough. The $1 machines are empty. Take those out and put in lower denominations. You’ll see, people will come.

4. Make something people want to see. Make it interesting and ‘cool’. Also, when you open early and your whole facility is not up and running….and it’s not ‘all that’, people will not go back. They’ve seen…and were not impressed (GulfStream this is you). The 2nd slot room at GulfStream is horrible!

5. Lower the tax rate. It’s too high and they can’t raise capital to improve their facility.

I really think these could work. The Isle has the right look, but they need more things to do. More advertising as well. Billboards are not enough. Tourist season is approaching, here is your chance to make up for lost time. The gaming market is hot right now, but only with the entertainment complex. Vegas has admitted that food, shows and clubs are making more than gaming.

Come on Florida...get out of the 1970's. The Sr. Citzens don't even want to come down here anymore. Take back the #1 tourist spot!(it's now Vegas).

Gambling interests promised a certain number and quality of jobs as well as a certain amount of money for K-12 education if we (the voters) approved slots. It would be nice, Sun-Sentinel, if you also reported to what extent they kept their promises.

Nice to see that someone is taking a breath before they jump on the bandwagon. When things settle down from the saturation, perhaps they'll take a marketer's point of view and make some enlightened choices instead of giving the public what they can now get at the other places. Dania is too close to the Seminoles and the two places in Hallandale to make a difference now.

according to the article,BOYD is merely waiting to see the outcome of some important issues before they make further investment. Makes sense to me. What are you all whineing about? Slot machine minimums? LOL..none of these slot houses have much interest in putting in EXCLUSIVELY low limit machines!!! The profit margins are too low to exist on just low limit machines! But,if any of you bothered reading my other posts, youd notice in a few of them I mentioned that casinos in Florida would not be nearly as profitable as casinos in other major venues to the FACT that the per capita income of residents in our state is much lower than the income levels in the Northeast and western states. LOL....foolish mortals...your deludeing yourselves if you think taxes on casinos will fix this states budget/tax problems.

Tax needs to be lowered...and FL should have full casinos. Imagine if MGM Mirage, Wynn or Harrahs were allowed to come in and build some mega resort-casinos? That's where the tax revenue would come from.

Also, why not add a penney & 1/2 to sales tax? That would pump more money into the state...maybe lower our property taxes...Tourists would end up paying a big chunk.

So you pay $.23 on $3.00 instead of $.18? Big deal. At least some of the people that are getting paid 'under the table' would contribute.
