Sounds like this will generate a lot of "discretionary" cash for the Principal at Sheridan Vo-Tech. I feel a keys boat and poker trip coming up for the 'good ole boys' and it won't take long now that it is fully funded. Perhaps the deal will be closed on a holiday, all expenses paid, boat trip. All takers should wear disguises, cuz the cameras are everywhere...like the cameras capturing every "gift" landing on the 10th floor during this season of "giving." I'll bet some of those gifts are expensive. Happy Holidays to all and to all a good blog.

Wait could I have read the story accurately? Our school system is using forethought to develop a new curriculum regarding a growing technical need? Knock me over with a feather!

What a great opportunity for our senior folks! It would get them out of the rocking chair and help them earn a few dollars. That's good, because they aren't looking for a growth career; and this type of job sounds like a no growth one; I mean, what is the career ladder after you've fixed a few slot machines?

while the number of jobs in this field maybe limited, it is still an area that people are needed! I would rather my kid go and study this and maybe go into this field or something similar, then to waste 4 years in college to get a bogus degree in women studies or another fu fu fluff major and then have to work at blockbuster or chili's because...oh my god they have a bogus 4 year degree! so do not knock this course!

It sounds like a good program. I took a computer electronics program from them after I retired and it got me a good job.

Rumor has it Bill Gates let the tech training director use his yacht for a week for focusing the program to Microsoft Windows.

Riddle me this XXX. What administrator has been collecting overtime on a regular basis for over two years? In addition to over 16 thousand dollars in overtime last year he also collected over 7 thousand dollars in travel time. He is on pace this year to go over 8 thousand dollars in travel time. Here are your clues. He has the same first name as the Godfather. His last name rhymes with hail but it could be a leafy green vegetable as well. He works for Tom Terrific who is a Capo in the Vo-Tech Mafia. Last clue, nobody really knows what he does for 82k a year plus all that overtime and travel 23k extra last year.
Iíll bet you thought things were tight and nobody was getting overtime. Well welcome to the land of plenty if you are made in the Vo-Tech Mafia. You want more? Can you handle it? Check out anybody working for or related to Tom Terrific. Still wanna play dumb? Wait until the project managers solve this riddle and find out that the one who sloughs around from Hortt to Sawgrass got 25% additional pay last year. Hell wait until the teachers find out they will all want to work at the Vo-Techs. Well all but Tomís daughter, she was a part time teacher at a Vo-Tech right out of school. Tom got her a job at Facilities for the summer. Six months later she is a construction purchasing agent. Sorry all of you other teachers and people with experience the mafia must be served. Besides nobody can live on teachers pay. Be sure and let all of us bloggers know how your investigation is going XXX.
WHILE WE ARE LOBBING REALITY GRENADES IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED WHY HIS SPOUSE GETS 90k PER YEAR. THAT IS A LOT OF MONEY FOR ONE HOUSEHOLD JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW SOMEBODY.

Well Bob George there is an old saying ďthe facts are stubbornĒ. You have managed to articulate the existing culture in a most succinct manor. People claim to want facts but when they canít manipulate them to suit themselves, those stating the facts are babbling and tiresome. That is OK because nobody is listening to you or your kind that matters anymore. Enjoy your evening Bob George I am sure you take comfort knowing it is more important to ignore distasteful situations then address them. If I were a name caller there is a name that describes your behavior. Kind of makes me wonder how much overtime you have been paid.

George,

What part has grown more tiresome, the truth of it or your inability, along with you buddies to deal with it as it comes out?

You are clearly not interested in addressing cronyism, waste, the high cost of taxes as a result of these cronyfied salaries. So just stick your head in the ground, keep cashing your check and hope that the public employees that do an honest day's work will continue to have gainful employment to serve the children and care for their families when the buddies drain the general fund and waste the capital fund. But then again, hasn't that already happened?

I don't know anything about most of the above discussion, but I do think the program is a great idea.

Tomorrow is my last final for a computer engineering degree. My original major was electronics engineering. Still need two physics courses for that degree. I don't live near a casino and have no plans to work at one but I can see how this could help many others.

This could also help in other fields like video games, not to mention the, ahem, "skill machines" found in so many local bars.

Hey, there aren't a lot of jobs that start at $12.50 an hour in Florida.

I am so over all of this. I am so used to the malarkey that none of this phases me. I am sure they all make out nicely and I will never get ahead. I don't even care that they get more. I just wish I could get something out of them. You try getting some Ed Specs, I never can. They must come out of a big mystery machine. I also have no idea what special sauce does except walk around the campus with his cell phone up his ear. All the bosses are good talkers, well, except for Jack. All I can say to you school Principals is, if you ain't getting good service than your parents just ain't got the right lobbyists, because if Tom and Shelley aren't excited about your projects, then they just ain't happening. It is political.

The program is an excellent idea provided that you pick the right technical school. Don't give up now, take those physics courses to complete your program of study and best of luck to you!
People who fix the electronic games will have a sea of work in South Florida with the loosening of the gambling laws.

I teach in Broward, but these blogs make it sound like the mafia guys are all over the district. I still can't believe that a guidance counselor is making ninety thousand.
