Minnet probably was hoping for some of the changes to go to referendum, while Brown realized nobody wanted changes.
Accept it. Brown deserves a gold star for what he said at the meeting.
Well no getting you to see reality. If you bothered to watch the meetings you will find there were a number of changes people wanted, just not the changes Brown wanted.

What did Brown want? There is no question as he made it known at the start of the charter review process. He wanted the Mayor's term to be 4 years. Then he wanted a change so if he was given a bottle of water he would not get removed from office.

On that one the board agreed with, him but the commission did not. So what did he do? He acted like a little spoiled child and Minnet having seen that before kindly reminded him what was going on and what he was there for and he still refused to do his job.

What is absolutely hypocritical was Brown's little speech about how he was so upset thinking others were spreading misinformation and how perception becomes reality.

That is exactly what got him in office.

He was THE writer for the Futures paper which holds the record for spreading misinformation though manufactured perceptions.

When opinion is accepted as fact, perception soon becomes reality, at least for those who share these opinions and cling to the resulting perceptions. Herein lies the reason for the division in town today and unless we make a concerted effort to separate perception from reality, opinion from fact, fiction from truth, that division will continue.

Thank you Mayor Minnet for trying to get him to do his job.

perhaps we definitely view special meeting differently

my perception was Brown was the only one on the dias that made sense

the meetings held by the charter review board were a waste of time
which that board should have realized at the onset of their meetings

You are wrong. The TC voted with Brown on having LBTS be the fourth municipality that will follow state law and not the new Broward's ethics standards.

I do think it needed a face lift and its good they are getting things done.
What I still don't have an answer for and I brought these points up to the commission at different times are the following concerns. It seems to be a done deal, but needs to be mentioned.

1. They got the idea to redo Commercial Blvd because as they said it was the gate way into town. That maybe so, but that's exactly what was said about 12 years ago when they redid it the last time. Therefore, I can only assume every 12 years or so they will form a new charter review board and redo Commercial Blvd?

Like 12 years ago they are also removing even more parking spaces which I find odd since they said they needed to redo it to fill up the storefronts, yet removing parking spaces reduces potential revenues needed to keep these storefronts open. Anyone?

2. What about Elmar Dr. and A1A south of Pine? These have not been touched except for new construction and those areas were done by the builders with each conforming Elmar to fit their model and not the overall look of the Drive. Why is this allowed to be piecemealed out? That decision goes way back so I'm not just looking at this commission.

3.)The process of moving this forward was based on the question given to the people of "What would you like and don't worry about the cost." now they come back to all those who complain about it and say we spent a lot of time and money getting input from the people so it's to late now. Look at the original question put forth and what other result could transpire?

It seems similar to shopping for a car and getting a sales person asking what kind of car would you like and don't worry about the price. A car then is delivered with a bill you now have to pay. Then you complain about it. The response is you never said anything about it when they asked what you wanted.

Well that happens to be true and its pointed out to you a new car was needed so you deal with it. If that's the way it works - Ok, but I like to think we know better. Yet it's happening, so I guess we don't.

Probably 6 months after the scheduled date and two or three commission's vote to increase the budget by a few millions to take care of 'small' stuff they forgot to include in the original bid.

Wrong! Commission already voted to spend more than the budget to add all the bells. Contract is for guaranteed maximum price. Highered a firm to manage project instead of town being manager. Firm highered will negotiate with contractors.
Don't worry. The commissioners are still spending your tax dollars for "their pet projects" and TM friends are getting their dessert.

Once again the Town's burgermeister has the right vision for this seaside village. Parker's "We're basically trying to make it a town square where people can congregate" illustrates that his desire to bring people together proves his popular vision is worthy of support.
He probably also sees this project being named as the Parker Portal. It certainly is large enough.
Taxpayers are concerned that the comedy team of Jerome and Jimmy (the Sigfried & Roid of local politics) will stand in the way of this most progressive plan to advance the Town. As one locally elected official said, "this is what happens when idiots take office".
While no one should stand in the way of progressive positive progress , let's just pray when the up-grades are complete it does
not bring along with it crime and crimminals looking to pray on
innocent residents of LBTS .

See the point, but if one brings a very good logical opposing position - to some of the items, then your "progressive positive progress" may result, as you relate, in us being worst off. Then shouldn't one voice his or hers opinion about what they think is a better?

That's the way I know of getting it changed or altered. Otherwise what happens is it gets done and as you say, crime increases, then we have to deal with this new problem which may mean making those changes later on, at a much greater cost.

Its been the position of mine and others that the project needed to be done with the difference as to what degree. It was brought up a number of times the project should have been more in line of an improvement then a total redoing.

Just think about the other opinion. Widen the sidewalks a few feet - not almost double it. Create more parking along Commercial - not reduce it.(This is being called a huge mistake.) Improve on the landscaping, no need to remove the royal palm trees when they will replace them with smaller palm trees, which blocks the view of the store fronts which happens to be totally against what they said was the intent of doing this in the first place. This whole project was To improve the business outlook on Commercial. The final cost figures have not come out yet by the way.

Read the backup for the meeting tomorrow on this issue - they have still not received the permits from the State regarding the area affecting the coastal construction line. They say it will be OK, but if that was so then why haven't they got the permits yet? Without those permits they can't give an solid cost/time figure.

It could then be said that the contractors got their way because the commission allowed it. Again, if you start this whole thing by asking the people what they want without any concerns for cost, what do you expect?

The people will want what looks to be better without consideration for what will happen to the business during and after the project along with not really paying attention to the costs when we clearly have other priorities. Why? Because of the belief they have some idea of what that they are doing with our money. If crime and cost increase out of proportion to the benefit, then its a fact they will be heard. But that's OK, that's for the next commission to deal with and that is whats really wrong around here.

Wait and see?

Why is so much time being taken to finish up the first block?

Why would they cut up royal palm trees only to plant new ones - the same size - right across the street? Cost?

Why the give a dam attitude ?

Who is running, have so much to use?

Why the attacks on Eric the Chamber treas. just after word got out he was running for commission?

Why no anger about all the waste?

What are we becoming?
