Security costs are out of control, that is where the extra monies went. Also, the sheltered market program is sucking the taxpayers dry.

The money is already flowing into the pockets of the commissioners. End the day gambling cruises, bring in more defective toys and goods, poisonous food, etc and continue to trash our environment. If the Port brings in so much money for the County than why is the County in such bad shape? Adding more to the Port at the cost of destroying more of our environment is not going to balance the books at the County. It is time for term limits to the commissioners.

Get your facts right before flapping your gums. There are no vacant yards from previous tenants, they were filled years ago. The planners are moving the convention center outside of the security zone so there will be no problems getting in and out..also the CC is planning on building a hotel there. Yay.

Sea Escape and Discovery will be accomodated and you can thank Nikki Grossman for the loss of two terminals and the parking garage which will cost the port millions a year in lost revenue. Also why did they build a convention center in the middle of the port only the incompetent county leaders know why.

Brilliant planning again PEV. Let's expand a public convention center in the middle of a high security zone. Don't worry about the mangroves, we can pay nature to be relocated. We're going to expand the cargo area because the existing empty yards from lost tenants is not enough. Oh, and thanks SeaEscape for all your years of paying fees, taxes, and adding to our total passenger count in the port, but we no longer need you. Maybe we can find you some room at the new cargo terminal, if we have the time? We will, of course, have to continue with the annual relocation of the Port ID Office, something with a water view would be nice. Maybe Sheriff Jenne can provide some consulting?

Actually, the county is very sensitive to the yacht industry, but no to the local boating industry.

Launch Ramps anyone?

A small slice for a mega-yacht haul out / repair facility would be nice. That is another 'Big Impact' industry in Fort Lauderdale...but its being ignored by the county because they see it a 'rich boy toys.' They don't realize that the 'rich boys' employ crew, crew buy goods for the boats and themselves, dockage, etc., etc..

At least it's ONE cost we taxpayer don't have to foot:

"The port business association is largely supportive of the plan, which would be paid for through tariffs at the port rather than by county taxpayers."

Bringing crushed rock into South FL is silly, like bringing coal to Newcastle. We should mine our own and create reservoir buffer lakes to resolve our water problems. Oh wait the 'greens' don't like that either.

The environmentalists are shutting down the rock pits in west Dade county we will have to import the rock. However, the rock pit makers are looking into mining next to lake Okeechobee...that will do wonders for our drinking water.
