A Review of the newly reopened Dania Fishing Pier.

What did a year and one half renovation bring to the Dania Fishing Pier?
Well I managed to get on to the pier a day before the official reopening.

Now I am an unabashed fisherman who loves Pier fishing. Dania Pier has been a fine resource with very basic but admirable qualities so I anticipated that the newly renovated Pier would be a honey. Unfortunately it is bitter honey. After one and a half years we have a Pier that lacks every major amenity required to fit even the most meager fishing or sightseers requirements. There is not a single bench or place to sit. There is no sheltered area. There are no fresh or saltwater outlets. There are no tables to cut bait or to clean fish. There is no useable bathroom. There are no working lights and until new ones are constructed no early morning or night fishing. There is a large building on the Shore end of the pier billed as ďA Five Star RestaurantĒ. Isnít that what the bathers and fisherman needed to make there beach experience complete?

In truth it appears that the Dania Pier is not ready for prime time and those who managed to spend a year and a half working on it should be ashamed of the results.

Thank you for the information. I was about to explore fishing from Dania pier this week and I think now I will probably make a short trip to the keys instead. I appreciate your honest review.

Living in Dania, my son and I have been eagerly waiting for the pier to reopen. Especially since we usually get kicked off the beach (surfcasting)at 9am, even when their are maybe a handfull of people within 500 yards or so. I grew up in the Daytona Area where there are sevaral nice fishing piers or were until some recent storms. The items you listed the pier is missing are common basic items that should have already existed. If they are not there after an expensive refit, that is hard to believe and screams of poorly made decisions. Here was a chance to spend minimum money in the big budget picture and reopen the new and improved Dania Fishing Pier and fancy restaraunt.(incorporate the other new devlopment/marina across the parking lot)Instead we get weak excuse for a pier that is not open 24hrs and an unopened restaraunt.

Maybe it is time to come back. The first post is made while the pier was not finished yet. Of course the pier has bathroom facilities, running water, shelter, cutting stations and a 24 Snack bar and tackle shop offering everything for the fishermans needs.

havent been to the pier in years guess having a major stroke hurt my ability to fish ... the countless days and nights i spent on the old pier and talking to the regulars it was to know who was going to be there.

I remember donny, pauly and gramps. haven't seen of heard of them in 20 years or so. My father Charlie said something about seeing one or both of them out there in the early to mid ninties, but thats last I heard.Dad still fished out there nearly every week end, until about 96 , just before he passed away.
