Delray was pedestrian friendly before they built the condos with no setback. Then the affluent who bought them complained the road was too close. Now the road is smaller and further away and you can hardly get through during commute times. The people that used to be able to pass are now weaving through the slower traffic in a truely frigtening manner. Lots of cars are trying the side streets in desperation. That is OK because it is better to have the traffic through working class residential areas then on say US 1. With gas over $4 bringing traffic to a crawl is a wonderful idea.

Kinda makes sense, the commissioners would rather address the wants and needs of the residents instead of the "visitors" who are just driving through twice a day.

That being said, I'd be pretty ticked off if I drove through there.

Perhaps these living brain donors should have thought about this before they built up around the road.

Why stop there? Let's crack up the pavement and install village common greens where jointly-owned herds of goats, sheep and cattle can roam.

Who needs Publix when fresh milk is on the square? LOL!!!

Seriously, I used to enjoy seeing the roosters dart under my car wheels in downtown Miami, before the builders drove out the Haitian and Cuban families and put up ghastly towers (mostly empty -- ironic justice).

A commuter train along Federal Highway will be the next logical move toward community-rebuilding, huh?

Let's see if I have this straight... Narrowing roads, slowing traffic, increasing congestion and $4.00/gal gas consumption are now viewed as a good thing.
One wonders: does achieviing elective office cost you brain cells, or is it deficiency that causes you to want the position in the first place?

If you put the elected official's brains in birds, they would fly backwards, trying to snatch all your money up, then shit on your car.

Well said and that's exactly what's happening. It's always some special interest behind such "new" thinking. Traffic calming is a joke. More development = more traffic and no amount of calming changes that. Just stop development instead of these laughable and obnoxious tactics.

Dania hasn't sold out to development and now it looks like they will do exactly that. Sad day. They should block off traffic from hollywood and save their residents from that mess.

I think they should close all the roads, and let livestock roam all over.
I'm sick of driving anyway. I would gladly trade my car in for a four- wheeler and tear up everyone lawn making short-cuts across town. Yeah, thats it!

As someone who has lived in Delray for 19 years, I have watched Atlantic Avenue and Federal Highway become more and more congested as building has taken over. While I'm all for progress, city planners must understand that most people do not live in downton Delray and they use Federal Highway and side streets to get there...the idea of making it a "people friendly, walkable" area is a joke...there will be no one to walk in that area if they can't get there without sitting in traffic first.

The real reason they are doing this, just so they can keep saying they need more tax money. First they take it to build the roads, then they need it to make the roads smaller.
It doesn't mean we can give up our cars because we still have to get to these so called pedestrian safe roads. I have tried doing a few errands on foot, too dangerous. Also, with traffic crawling by you at a slow pace, just breathe in those carbon monixide fumes in the condo canyons as you walk.

I have TRULY been having some really good laughs, and pounding my chest in TRIUMPH from hearing all the horrible things happen that we are reading about now in the news. Whenever the current events locally and nationally are as they are now and everyone begins to actually FEEL the devastating effects of those horrible problems of which I have been SPEAKING about for a very long time everyone always starts to complain of suffering from those PROBLEMS. I refer to that crying and complaining as the "gnashing and gnawing of teeth". This "gnashing and gnawing of teeth" that everyone is doing now due to all of the dreadful problems that are occurring in America (the continuing tragic auto vehicle crashes, foreclosures on home mortgages, high inflation, huge national debt, rising unemployment, declining home sales and prices, skyrocketing fuel prices, taxes, insurance, etc.) all thoroughly SUBSTANTIATE practically EVERYTHING that I have been speaking about and was being ridiculed for by some.
.
Well, it has been a long, long time ago that I FIRST posted in a SS news article that was about a tragic crash that had occurred then. For several of the people who were involved in the crash their bodies had been mutilated by the crash. It was truly a wrenching story to read about in the news. Upon reading that horrific story about that collision of auto vehicles I could only look to my innermost feelings in order to create a postname for my post that I was going to submit. The horror of reading about the crash represented exactly what I was feeling about things, and that provided for me the basis for the postname to type in and I have retained that postname ever since::........concerned one.
Since that time of that news story of the crash there has been a number of major news headlines come out about a number of various stories relating to how everything is going these days. Within all of those stories a clear MESSAGE has been shown:: I have consistently been right on track with where the shape of things would lead.
And for all of those who ridiculed me..........well..........look at it this way..........the world is indebted to you for bringing about the famous saying about YOU:: There is a FOOL born every second.

This is the best idea ever! Encouraging motorists to abide by the posted speed limits is great. Too many drivers disregard the speed limits and have no regard for the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists, other motorists, and themselves.

I agree. Not only all that, but imagine the road rage. Doesn't South Florida lead the country in road rage, and now they're making streets smaller so people can look at the shops on the side of the road? DUMB ASS IDEA. Who's pockets got greased on that one?

I think its a great idea. I live around NE 15th and the street and traffic is not bad at all. PLUS it looks amazing!!! We should do it to more streets and make it look more green and add the curb appeal
