This is a sign of desperation by Dania. All plans to revitalize its downtown have failed. Dania pinned its hopes on a new casino, a fool's game. Now its pinning its hopes on street vendors selling sodas and snacks, like they do in third world countries. This is sad for Broward's first city, desperately trying to struggle out of a slump that lasted decades.

Desperation. Dania's policies haven't failed, they just don't exist. Things will get even worse very soon.

Dont you first have to have a business district to attract business to? No one shops in the outdated dumpy antique shops along USeless 1. They all sell on eBay to make their money. Just go ask your postal clerks how many boxes they get that say eBay or know the customer is an eBay seller. Dania Beach cant even keep tenents in the buildings. They chased away more than one large project with red tape fighting over parking spaces and how tall the building can be. Here is a partial list of failed buisness's in Dania Beach. You have a lackluster, hit or miss, selective Code Enforcement department that will see something on one side of the street but totally miss the same violation on the other side. Hookers still walk the street and admit to officers they were working and its slow. Read it in the Miami Herald, its printed in the police blotter, but the Sun Sentinel doesnt print crime reports for Dania Beach, but their is crime. Homeless walk the streets, sleep at Mt Sinai Church, sweep up the parking lot at the Mobil Station. Yeah sure makes me want to shop and buy gas along USeless 1. Dania Beach is so far behind the times its not funny anymore. Next election, I am voting for everyone that is new. It cant hurt?
Here is a list of businesses and projects we are proud to have cancelled or closed.
Dania Beach Hotel (boarded up how we like them)
Chocolate Jungle (Sherwin Williams their brown paint is chocolate)
Kevins Bicycles (Kevin went back to Lee’s)
Rose Auto (.99 cent store to attract homeless)
Captain Mikes Seafood (someone else moved in)
Drydock (vacant how we like them)
Seafair (never was a sucess)
Rainbow Too Cafe (Armadillo Cafe is giving it shot)(we hope to close within a year)
The Fish Grill (building demolished)
Bennett Auto Supply (building still vacant)
Obsession Watersports (gone)
Garrisons Auto Repair (vacant)
Scott Forman Art (left town) now Wireless Toys in our old bank building.
Nautical Art (moved out, vacant)
Western Union (vacant)
Karatee Gym next to Mobil Station (vacant)

They should persuade or make Church's Chicken relocate closer to the poorer sections of southwest Dania where the majority of its customers seem to originate. Staying closer to your buyers means fewer vehicular trips and less traffic.
After Munro Udell dies, his inheritors may be more interested in pure profit rather than in old sentiment and tradition, and move Jaxson's Ice Cream to the Westin Diplomat, Hollywood Beach boardwalk, or wherever there is a higher-income crowd. Then that whole Jaxson's Plaza might be demolished and replaced with an office complex.
Gentrifying that corner where Stirling Road meets US 1 would go far in improving downtown. IHOP, Walgreens and Grampa's restaurant are fine. They draw a more solidly middle class clientele.

If poorer people cannot afford to live in Dania Beach, it is not the job of the middle class to make it possible for them. Population, like water, finds its own economic level. Those people in the ghettoes on the west side lecture that they were born and raised here, that their ancestors helped create Dania, bla-bla-bla....
Well guess what? All that is very true, but has no value! History does not pay bills. Money does that, and I am not paying for somebody else's lifestyle. Big government today is using right-wing tactics instead of left-wing excuses to penalize the middle class. Instead of taxing us to death to pay for elaborate welfare programs, they are re-developing us to death in the name of creating jobs.
Just partition the city and create a new, completely middle class city east of US 1.
