Again, this is NOT news. The same thing happens every year. Lets read about something important happening.

Sorry if there were no murders to report this morning. But hold out a day or so - as I'm sure the devastation in Jamaica and Mexico will fill your void.

I WORK ON POWERLINE ROAD IN POMPANO BEACH AND THE SCHOOL BUSS GARAGE AND LOT IS RIGHT BEHIND MY OFFICE. TODAY WHEN I WENT OUT TO RUN AN ERRAND AT ABOUT 2:30 PM I COULD NOT BELIEVE AT HOW AGGRESSIVE THE SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS WERE AND SINCE POWERLINE ROAD HAS A SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE BUS'S SPEEDING UP 65 MPH!

I KNOW THIS IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL BUT THE POLICE NEED TO BE MONITORING THE BUS DRIVERS SPEED -- NOT THE REGULAR TRAFFIC!

I agree with you -- same thing happened to me in Coral Springs!

If you follow that line of reasoning, the Sports section is not news, because they play games every week or every day.

In these troubled times, maybe some people want reassurance that life goes on. If it isn't "important" to you, why did you not only take the time to click on it, but also to post comments in two places?

Technically speaking, news is anything that is reported from once source to another. It doesn't always have to be focused on Murder and Mayhem. As a parent of school-age children, it's comforting to know that the first day went well.

Don't agree with your assessment of a "glitch free" first day of school. Does this include the transportation?
The school bus failed to appear at my grandson's stop to take him to Walter C. Young Middleschool in Pembroke Pines. In addition, there was a total mixup at the end of the day and he couldn't find his bus home. That was a double header!

What they failed to report was the "brand new" website from Florida Dept of Ed detailing the teachers that were disciplined last year. Remember that article in the past few weeks? Well, the website is up and its a doosey! So many DUI and possession of drugs (some at school). Even a Broward Principal was suspended for being intoxicated at a school event. His suspension is (or was) for this summer (june through Aug) and for next summer (June through Aug).

Why don't you report on that? That is news! I was appalled at that list.

Sun-sentinel needs to stop being so afraid of this Broward School Board (they won't be elected back anyway). Report this - the parents need to know!

Without a glitch? Park Trails Elementary School in Parkland changed their opening time from 8:15 to 8:00 without notifying the parents. There must have been 500 kids late for school. I wonder how many of them were sitting around for 15 minutes waiting to get picked up at 2:00 instead of 2:15? There were no phone calls or letters sent home prior to school starting.

These issues are supposed to be handled easily. They have less students than last year. They claim to be doing such a great job. So why is it news when they "do" their jobs and it is not newsworthy when they fail to do their jobs.

The school board is a sham of a group and the superintendent is a do boy.

By the way, I just heard that the superintendent okay'd a $12 million cafeteria renovation after one was recently contracted for only $6 million. There is the raise money for the teachers...that will probably never come...at least the new supt got his...
