Why is it that Don Cason loves to take all of our local dollars and spend them in Knoxville and Knox County? Maybe I am confused, but isn't the purpose of a local chamber of commerce to support local businesses to benefit OUR county?

I've been a member of the Chamber for years, but its really getting out of control. The Jefferson County Chamber does more for Knox County than it does for us. If you want the facts, just take a look to see where the money goes. Maybe local businesses just need to pack up and move to Knoxville so we can get some of this money that our own chamber of commerce is so eager to throw their way.

Don Cason needs to practice what he preaches and learn to "Shop Jefferson County".

Sadly I would have to agree with you. The chamber seems more concerned with how much work they can send over to Knox County than it is on helping the businesses in this one. I don't think the chamber realizes that the dollars they keep sending to Knoxville are at the expense of local business. You don't see the Knoxville chamber of commerce coming to Jeff county to do business, so I don't understand why the chamber insists on going to them to do ours. I guess maybe Jeff co. is not good enough for Mr. Cason? Maybe someone should ask him.

I love Jefferson County but I am getting a little tired of all the wheelin and dealin these people do in these leadership roles.

I think they are just trying to make connections for themselves instead of doing their jobs for the best interest of this county.

Why would the chamber be sending work to Knoxville at all? Businesses in this county have a hard enough time staying afloat without the chamber working against them. money invested into the chamber needs to stay in the county. Most of it belongs to the taxpayers.

Isn't that what amp and crew are trying to do also ?
It IS really starting to look like Dandridge is getting hard to survive and plan retirement. We have planned on retirement for 30+ years here and worked elsewhere and since we don't qualify as a farm, but live on the lake (4 months out of the year), we are expected to carry a tremendous load when it comes to taxes ! And yet, receive jack shit in return for it. It is getting old fast !
And now, they are spending our money on projects and planning we don't need and can't afford, in other counties instead of ours ! It just seems everyday or so something else underhanded or ego driven or totally unnecessary, or just plain stupid, pops up and we have to fight to get it stopped or at least slowed down. And while we worry with that problem they slide something else right by us ! That's not what I look foward to retiring to, because they just keep on proving we can not trust them !

I can see where you are coming from, but at least with the new schools our county will have something to show for it. New schools will probably create new teaching jobs and improve the county as a whole. The chamber just seems to be taking money from our pockets and giving it to Knox county- Using our taxpayer dollars on projects with Knoxville companies, when it would be better spent here at home. I won't be paying my dues next year.

Jefferson county Chamber did not even recognize Chestnut Hill on their first maps. We didn't exist. But yet we have 3 major businesses in our area. Their excuse was Chestnut Hill was not shown on any state maps. When the map was presented showing the location it was asked where the map came from. The map was the offical state map presented to vistors at the rest areas on the interstate. They could not believe it. When the maps were revised, they finally included Chestnut Hill. Just to let you know, Jefferson County does not end at the bridge in Dandridge or at the Jefferson City City Limits. And parts of Jefferson County can only be accessed by traveling through Sevier County. There are alot of Jefferson County citizens that only come to Dandridge and Jefferson City if they have offical business with the county such as taxes. As far as the wheel tax goes, most of them do not have one because they have Sevier County addresses. I hope Jefferson County wakes up and stops the funding for the Chamber unless they are going to promote the whole county. They should have to report to commissioners and the citizens and explain their agenda and expenditures. We may find that we are supporting agendas that are not favorable to the county's benefit.

If I had to guess, I would say that Cason is more interested in making deals for himself than he is in helping out local business. I betcha' he probably wants to work for one of these Knoxville companies that he has on the payroll. He is not working with these Knoxville companies because its best for the county, he is working with them because it is be best for himself: The old you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours deal.

I don't have anything against the man, but lately the chamber has been more about helping itself than helping the local members they so desperately try to recruit. I remember a time when the Chamber used to work to bring business to Jefferson County merchants, now it seems to be working against smaller local business and spending it in Knoxville on jobs that could have been done right here. We need to keep taxpayer money and member dues here in our county rather than siphoning it out to Knox County. Do you think Knox county really needs our help?

I would like to know Where the chamber's loyalty is? I'd say they send more money out of the county than they bring into it. They get all of this money from taxpayers and from local membership and then they spend it all in Knox? Seems to defeat the purpose to me. This is a great deal for Knox county's economy, but does not do much for ours at all.

Well the chamber has a nice gig going for them. They go around collecting money from individual cities and from the county commission, and then they take it and spend it on whatever they want. Its taxpayer money, but now the chamber gets to say how its spent. Often they blow it on hiring expensive, high-end firms from Knoxville, when they should be using it here in the county.

Building a Better Future has helped two groups so far- the Chamber of commerce itself and Luke Planning, Inc from Florida. Why is it so hard for the Chamber to see that we need to invest money here in our county, not into some "planning company" in Florida or Knoxville? The chamber spent thousands and thousands of dollars for some old man to come up here and tell us that we need to invest in our economy, education, environment, infrastructure and quality of life? No one here in Jefferson County could of come up with that on their own? Seriously?

Just curious but what has building a better future done that justifies the amount of money that was spent on the process? I would kind of have to agree on this. Mr.Cason and the chamber board seem to really love to spending money outside the county. I mean give them $20 bucks and they will find someone in Knoxville to give it to. That just dont seem right to me.

If they spent more of this money here in the county, we actually might be able to get some stuff done and move this county forward. The chamber needs to focus on Jefferson County instead of trying to filter money to their buddies in Knoxville.

That's a pretty good thought. People need to look a little closer at how Cason and some of the chamber board spends taxpayer money. If the chamber doesn't support local businesses than why would anyone else want to?

Don Cason doesn't care a thing about Jefferson County. How can someone claim to be concerned about local business when they consistently spend so much of the chamber money in Knox county?

Well we all know that Don is not the best at managing his money. Why should we expect any more of him as the chamber president? He is always chasing after the next get rich quick scheme and trying to drag everyone else down with him.
