I heard Publix was going to buy Food City. Has anyone else heard anything about this or os it just a rumor?

I sent a email to publix a couple months ago asking if they ever had any plans to come to Dandridge area and they replied no not at this time. Haven't heard about a buyout. Would like to see another chain come in.

I very much agree! Dandridge does need another place to grocery shop.

Knoxville, 45 minutes away. Jefferson City & Newport are 20 minutes away and have competition in stores.

I understand your need for wanting another grocery store, but enjoy your small town. Once you get a new grocery store, the next thing you know several strip malls come in. When that happens more traffic. More people leads to more crime. I miss my bedroom community so bad. The town I live in is a complete mess now. It all started with building a new shopping center for us to have a new grocery store in the early 90's, which was a kroger.
Publix is the most expensive of the grocery stores too. I think that's why the one close to my house is never that busy, but yet kroger will be packed.
In order to find a small town anymore around here, we'd have to move atleast an hr. outside of Atlanta. Treasure your small town, and I really mean that. I miss my small town.

Bring Ingle's, Kroger, or Food Lion into town. Food City/KVAT runs a monopoly.

There is an Ingles in Morristown, Food Lion and Kroger in Sevierville (unless Food Lion shut down, which now I'm thinking it did). I would love to see another chain come in. I used to work at Food City and I will go there if I need a few things, but the prices are too high. The meat is the only thing I will drive there for specifically - I won't buy meat anywhere else. I don't want FC to leave, but I don't like driving all the way to Jefferson City to go to WalMart - just wish there was something closer to downtown Dandridge with cheaper prices.

We drive to newport because of more store selections and 2 FC stores there also. Cocke county and Sevier county takes a lot of money from Jefferson county residents. That is OK if JC wants it that way and dont want revenue for jobs and tax dollars.

Newport used to have an Ingle's years ago, then it went out of business after disputes with the property owners. I hope they can come back to Newport and put a store in Dandridge as well.

It would be a good thing if this were to happen, but I don't think it will. I don't see Food City doing a big remodel if this was the case.

food city can make agreements with smaller towns like wal-mart does. I don't know if Dandridge has, but other small communities have promised FC that if they build, the town will not allow compition to buy or build for either so many years or not at all. I don't know if Dandrige did this, but i do know that if towns and cities agree to this with FC that there is a pretty big monetary reward for the city or town.

I thought those agreeements were a violation of anti-trust laws. I think the SEC should investigate such commitments.
