Whenever the Jeff County whiners want to complain about winter time lake levels remember this week. Douglas lake will have risen over 33 ft from 950 to 983 in just one week. If the water was not controlled guess where it would go?

By the way it looks, all rain water is flowing right down into New Market. Property in the footprint for the Norfolk Southern rail yard is flooded, as is the surrounding roads. Get your boats out folks.

iv seen the lake come up 30 feet over night. dont confuse true jeff co residents with yankees that bought land in the summer from a redneck realitor from jeff co then looked out in oct to see the water go down. LOUD and the rest of the cry babys need to go some where else if they dont like it. the whole point of douglas, cherokee and norris is flood control. this is a small flood wait until a historic flood happens then the people of chatt. can sue loud and the tve for flooding them out. let the people in tva manage the lakes the way they need to and use them for what their for.

30 feet over night huh? I have lived with this lake in my front yard for 30 years, and I don't remember it ever coming up 30 feet over night. Do you mind telling us when that was?

Dear "All my life"
Have you been full of shit all your life ???
TVA as should anybody with a pulse knew LAST week this flood was coming, yet they didn't start raising it until monday ? They couldn't manage their asses in any situation. They suck as bad as our government and are just as wasteful. Douglas has come up 12-14 feet since monday. Cherokee has come up 7 feet. Norris was already up for some secret reason and has only come up 5 feet. Loudon is 5 feet over NSP up river and they are dumping for all it is worth ! Watts Bar has come up 6+ feet since Monday and is over 2 feet above NSP. Chicamauga is up 5 feet since Monday and is more than 1 foot over NSP now. Nickajack was at flood stage MONDAY ! It is 2 feet from flood stage now, which is 1 foot or more over NSP. And Chatanooga is right there just waiting to flood.
And you think TVA has "anything" under control ???
You are a just another dumbass who thinks they have a clue. Any fool with any since would have been filling the reservoirs last week and dropping the lakes in preparation for this onslaught.
But NO, they are too busy hiring another "way friggin overpaid brown nose", to act the part and top off his retirement coffer. Most docks from Knoxville to Chattanooga are underwater now. Fort Loudon came up 4 feet from Friday to Saturday !

And "Tiva", reckon where did it go before 1940 ?
If it were not controlled, Douglas would not be a lake. And Dandridge would be a SIN city along the Tn River instead of a dry county except for the point and beer.

If they are going to drop it for "flood control", as they should, why is it not full now ???

It is 983 which is 7' below full pool. A near record for this time of year. Before 1940 it would have flooded the entire area now we have a reservoir to hold the waters. If your dock is under water why is it TVA who lacked insight and not you, because even you said anyone with a pulse knew it was coming.

Also TVA did not start "raising" the lakes in Monday. We have had a record rain event with almost 3" of rain each day this week. Douglas and Cherokee are the highest elevated lakes in TVAs systems. The runoff from the area mountains that your Yankee family thinks is just "pretty leaves" is and has been enough to flood the area for many years. Read up on Jeff county's flood history before 1940.

What are you smoking? It is currently at 973', and 983' is not "7' below full pool". The new full pool level is 995', and it used to be 1002'. It can go to 1007' before it overflows the damn.

I believe the previous poster was talking about docks being flooded on the downriver lakes - you know the ones supposed to be protected by these reservoirs. Ft Loudoun, Tellico, Watts Bar are all flooded and the docks are fixed so there is nothing the owners can do to prevent them from being underwater. Seems TVA could have released on those lakes a little sooner; now they are planning to release 6 feet of water on Chattanooga and the downriver areas in the next two days, so I wonder if those people down river will think TVA is doing such a great job at flood control.

Full pool is 990 on Douglas. Since when have we cared about down stream? This post is about Jeff co whiners not Chattanooga.

BTW - the 990' is listed by TVA as the "MINIMUM Targeted Summer Level" The 994' is listed as the "Flood Guide" line which is described as the target for summer levels.
Straight from TVA website:

"Flood guide
The flood guide line is a seasonal elevation guide that shows the amount of storage allocated in a reservoir for flood damage reduction. The operating objective is to keep the reservoir level at the dam at or below this line to be ready for flood events.

The reservoir level may rise above the flood guide as a result of large inflows, but the level is lowered to the flood guide as soon as it can be done without increasing downstream flood damage.

From June 1 through Labor Day, elevations are maintained as close as possible to this line to support recreation. During this time, elevations fall below this line only when rainfall and runoff are insufficient to meet system flow requirements."

Yeah, a lot and I forgive you too.

Now that I know the thread was just so you could call people whiners and Yankees instead of about flood control, I guess facts don’t really matter…

Just FYI they are now saying it will be 990 by Saturday. So we will reach full pool in January and raise over 40' in one week. Time to tune up the pontoon.

hey iv been full of shit all my life but i know the history of this area very good and in the early 1900's a hurricane came through this area area a dayu later a tropical storm came in from the gulf of mexico and the french broad flooded twenty four feet above flood stage. {read Wilma dykmans French broad river country} this was the flood that tva based their whole flood control policies on. The rivers are controled to keep chattanooga from floodingits the lowest point on the tennessee river. This area was a poor ass depressed region until tva came in and stopped flooding. So now that lake lowers cry baby association as cryed the rivers full tva cant manage the rivers the way they should be. and why would they raise the lake before a flood thats stupid but your shooting your mouth off about something you dont know a thing about. My family gave up a 1000 acre farm for this lake so f you and your lake its for flood control not for some ass thats not from here to look at and around 994 to 96 cant emember year it came up over night from empty to almost full over night. july is the month that the flood tva used to control for they used to bring the lake up faster and higher then lower it sooner for this reason and i grew up with this lake in my font yard so i do know what im talking about the lake bottom would grow vegitation before winter and erosion wasnt anything like is now so the cry baby association is killing the lake faster from silt filling the lake faster
