I like Dandridge better than Newport and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a house at that price range here.

I have lived in both places and I will stay in Dandridge. A house or land will not be a problem to find.

The people are more friendly in Newport seems, and not as nosey. The town is bigger also.
The police tend to "hound you" a little in the small-town Dandridge,(Mayberry) not much ever happens there like it does in Newport.
I've been thru Pineville,W.V. a while back and you would like Newport better I think.
Some people may not like what I've posted...but not made any post against any one person.
The police are fatter in Dandridge telling me they have a lot of time on their hands.(Ha)

Does anyone around Dandridge know whatever happened to the teacher Jason Lockhart who Channel 6 reported to be under investigation last year regarding child porn? He was a teacher at Maury.

We haven't been to Newport but we did like Dandridge. We're coming back in April and may move up there in two years. Are there any other folks out there that "escaped" from Florida to the Dandridge area? Any regrets? Comments?

Thanks!

I have lived near Dandridge for the past 28 years. Moved here from a large city. If I had to live in any town near the Smoky Mountains, it would be Dandridge. Low crime and great people. My wife and I love the area.

Moved here from Florida 6 years ago and never looked back thank goodness. More of the good folks from Florida would love to move to Dandridge area if they could. Leave the undesirables down there.

Very familiar with both towns. I think Dandridge is a little nicer looking town, but less businesses and restaurants - quite a bit smaller. If you want to be able to get to a good size city, Dandridge is closer to Knoxville than Newport is to Asheville or Knoxville. I think the people in both places are decent folks, just a little more country in Newport. Some of the scenery around Newport is beautiful, and closer to the mountains, but Dandridge has Douglas Lake. Good points to both places - just depends on what you're looking for. No problem finding a house in that range.
