Is the Electoral College no-longer necessary?

I think all our votes should count in elections, not just some

states.

What are your views?

It is funny that you started this thread Barbara because I thought last night that this election may be won on the electoral vote and not the popular vote. Either way, it looks like it is going to be very close if something doesn't change that in the next few days.

Yes, I get tired of feeling like my vote does not count. The election is now centered around only 6 or 8 states.

Some issues with that. I agree, that the highest number should win. But should large metropolitan areas with large populations be the only predominantly determining votes in an election? The college allows votes across the whole board to matter. Kinda fair..not fair..That's how I'm understanding it. At this point, I pray whoever wins, we can turn this economy around.Worst and slowest I've seen it in 20 years.

Even if you added up the top 100 cities in the US, that would only be like 40 million people, or 13% of the population.

I'd argue that the winner-take-all system in states makes a lot of votes not matter at all. Probably 40/50 states are already decided. If you're a Democrat in the South, you vote doesn't mean squat. If you're a Republican in the Northeast or Illinois or California, you vote doesn't mean squat. There's simply zero chance of it mattering. It's a strong disincentive to vote and probably a major reason our country has such poor turnout at elections.

The electoral college basically gives a monster amount of influence to the few states who happen to be evenly divided between Ds and Rs, as well as the smallest states.

Without the electorial College, Politicians would only address urban issues because they would only need to win in Chicago, LA, New York, Pennsylvania, ect to win the elections. There is definitely pros and cons.(no pun intended)

Still looks like the skinny socialist owebama will get the most electorates. If you need a job you are screwed, if you don't want a job you can still lay back and smoke a cigar cause the poor taxpayers who are paying for it can't and ain't gonna ever be able to pay all this paper money printout back. Remember the Titanic?

OH, BTW people should have to be qualified to vote. A set of standards is needed for voters to be eligible to vote.
