Lack of Dorset cell phone service to undergo renewed scrutiny -...

Obtaining a service the town has desired for some time now has gotten ratcheted up a notch and now may be seen as more of a necessity.

Patti is right in saying "in the eyes of the providers we are a lower priority" Cell service has been around for over 20 years and i would think 20 years later we could come to terms with a provider.

Another Dorset resident just home from the hospital with open hart surgery lost power , It would have been nice if he had cell phone service as a backup service.

A third party willing to work between the town and providers to supply services may be the way to go

I live part time in Dorset. I would love to see cell phone service in Dorset.

One quick and cheap solution is the put a Femtocell in the Dorset Library since the Library already has internet access. This way, people can make calls in the vicinity of the Library. I know Verizon Wireless sells a unit for a one time fee of $250 (which can handle 4 simultaneous calls) but no monthly fees thereafter unlike other carriers.
